Changes into Manley Class APD 1/43 in Pearl Harbor. I didn't know these type of system changes could occur in Pearl, and surely didn't know it would convert into an APD. 42a stock campaign
This is normal. Most (not all) flush deck DD's upgrade to Manley class APD. The game considers this a normal upgrade, and it can happen at any port with a repair yard. The game simply changes the ships attributes to new ones. It does not matter if the ship type is different. You could create an upgrade path upgrading a BB to AK if you wish.
I suppose so lol. Wasn't really my point though. I didn't know the flush deck's changed into APD's, or that pearl could do "conversions" of this nature. This being similar to converting an AK into a Sub escort for instance. I've since read up on the Schely and it served with distinction as an APD in the Pacific Theater and saw some extensive combat. Eventually recieving 11 Battle Stars.

The conversion from DD to APD is in the normal upgrade system. The conversion from AK to an auxiliary is voluntary and initiated by the player manually. The only conversions initiated manually by the player are the AK conversions. The only way to prevent those DDs from converting is to turn off upgrades. The game considers their rebuilt a regular refit.
By the time the old DDs start converting to APDs, the Allies are beginning to get a lot of newer DDs, so those old DDs are usually more useful as transports.
Ya I need some more too. Going to start rotating my flush deck DD's into port. I will be doing less air transport now. I just "Lost" my 3rd Raider batallion in an air transport mission. The 2nd and 4th left jaluit on fast transports and took a little island just west can't remember the name. I reinforced with the 3rd batallion via air transport and they just disapeared. Like I flew through the dam bermuda triangle or something. A battalion of the most highly trained ground combat forces the United states feilded in ww2 just disapeared. My last save was approx week ago game time where 3 bases have fallen and a hundred moves or tweaks have occured. I just don't have the heart to roll it back. I'm a bit miffed at the game atm for sure.

Hmmm. I haven't heard of anyone losing anything to the air transport bug in a while now. Are you up to date with the current 1.806 patch?
There is a work around for air transporting units. As you know doubt know when transporting a unit if part of the unit is transported by air a parent/child is created, with the parent typically being the larger part of the unit. Several patches back people would routinely lose units (disappear) by completing the transport before the child became the parent. The work around for this was to transport the majority of the unit, wait for the child (at the new destination) to become the parent and then complete the transfer...hope that wasn't too confusing.
Yes I'm patched up to newest one on the d/l page. Still been wondering how to check my current version I've looked all over but don't see it. Here's what happened. I just transported some c-47's out to makin my main base for marshall operations from the US. One of the big 64 plane units. It was partially repaired up to like 50 planes so i sent it to jaluit as the apd's with 2 and 4 raiders. sped off behind thier BB TF. 1 catilina, 1 mariner, and the 47 available c-47's were assigned to transport the 3rd raiders. All the planes made it back empty, and the 3rd raiders who should be full strength are gone. These are like my favorite units in game and they're gone. Is there a hack or something I can get them back with? I'll even chew through the code like a little beaver to get my guys back.
Yup I used three squadrons so I know i had enough transport capacity. I figured to consolidate my position on the island fast. and the 2nd and 4th got tore up pretty good taking it so I needed a good unit there to continue attacks on the remaining Japs there. I went ahead and air dropped 1 of my my para batallions in there to hold it but man that suks to lose a unit like that. I have no idea if they will come back in the game later or what.
I think i should have either used just the sea planes because they can unload on any hex with a beach, instead of having to use the damaged runways the japs left me with the c-47's? OR sent in one of my para's. I'm kicking myself but heck if i knew it would glitch on me like that.

Have you checked the LCU unit list to see if it is there, but was teleported elsewhere? In which case you were the victim of the teleport bug and not the air transport bug. If the unit truly is gone, it is likely gone for good. Both the teleport bug and air transport bug used to be major issues in the game. Since at least ver 1.6 and maybe earlier, these problems were largely patched up. I haven't lost or teleported a unit in quite some time.
niceguy- yes I checked there right off. I was thinking I got screwed up and sent them someplace else. But they are mia for sure. I guess maybe it was the partial group? Or using pby's and c-47's together. I don't know. Pretty frustrating. I don't roll back the game. If I mess up it's part of the game to try and recover from mistakes. Heck the game starts off by trying to fix mistakes. ie PH. So I can take a loss but sorry to see them go from a glitch like that.
feinder- They carry 180. My screen shots show the changes in the conversions. I don't know what the capacity of a standard DD is though. I've only used them for evac transports before and can't remember how much they hold sorry.
Omg this is unreal. Now same thing happened to one of my para battalions. Same place only just using the c-47's this time. That's enough to make me want to scrap the whole campaign. This should probably go in the air transport issue thread. :(
LOL it isn't my day guys. I d/l the patch to fix this thing and now I got a fatal friggin error msg on start. Wow, just plain wow. ERROR 808 Ya was weird. I d/l the latest patch but not the comprehensive one first so it fubarred the game. I'm up and running again. Guess I'll roll back the game something like 2 weeks (cringe) and get my guys back. I dunno maybe put one of those mods in and a new map and start over.

In CHS I use those Clemson/Wickes as convoy escorts after their 1/42 upgrade. They're potent ASW ships after that upgrade, and I'd rather use older DDs for a DE role than say Sims class boats. I start converting them to Manleys once the DEs start to arrive in mid '43.
