Hi,

Are there any plans for a demo of this game? I have read the (out of eight) review and the game specs on the Matrix forums, but am still having difficulty in visualising what the game is about.

I am looking for a simulation rather than an arcade game, where I dictate the plays rather than using a joystick or controller to control the players. Can I select play an NFL type game (I understand the licensing issue) over several seasons? Are the individual players realistic? Are the American rules based on the NFL?

I apologise if these questions have been asked before. I am after a simulator like an NFL type version of the soccer game Football Manager (was Championship Manager). A demo would help me decide if this game was for me.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Carefully read through the FAQ's here: http://www.maximum-football.com/

I would rather have an informed potential purchaser than one who buys it expecting it to be something it is not. You say you want something like Championship Manager? - then this game is not for you, at the moment, as it lacks the management features.

That being said, it is a very good coaches' game with a very devoted developer that keeps a high level of communication with the fanbase. And it is continually being improved. It doesn't have NFL licensing, but nfl teams can be created with 3rd party graphics and I believe NFL rosters are being developed, but if this is a major reason you want the game (NFL teams and rosters), then I would say take a pass for the moment. How's that for an honest answer. It is a great game, but it will not be for everybody. You have lots of reading to do before you make the plunge.

Redwolf,

Thanks for the helpful and honest reply. I had read through the FAQ, and having re-read it, am still unclear on the games potential. I cannot manage, like in Championship Manager, but how much control do I have as a coach?

Is there a realistic competition structure in place? Do I have a realistic squad (roster?) of players? Is there a realistic set of opposition? Can I select the team and dictate the tactics? Is there a career mode, so that I can develop these players over several seasons?

THe FAQ and advertising hints that I can do all those things. Perhaps it is me being thick, but it is not explicit that I can do so.

Oh for a demo!

Players are fictional, generated by the game. The AI(Non human controlled)teams are drafted and managed by a team profile. The game comes with default profiles for each roster size. If you dont like the defaults you can change the profile for each team.
The human controlled teams, if you have any, are still governed by a profile, but the human can draft his team or let the CPU do it.

Remember, the default profiles, playbooks, and the ratings at which the players are generated at were created by someone else. So your idea of realistic and theirs may differ. All of these things can be edited. Some from within the game, others via a database program like open office or Access.

You can control one or all teams in a league. You can create plays from scratch, setup gameplans for how a team uses those plays.

There is a career mode, here is how it works:
There is a yearly draft, if you want, or you can select not to have one. Then the cpu just stocks all the teams according to the profiles
Then there is a training camp.
Players age yearly, ratings fluctuate over time. Players get injured, from simple stuff to career enders. Players also retire.

There is no trading with the AI. No salaries or anything.

IM not sure if they answered it, if not here is more.  Have you played any of the Front Page Sports FB games, this game is in many ways very similar.

There is an articade option.

But I think most usere here play as the coach, call the plays and watch them unfold.  This game like FPSFB has a very good play creator/editor, you can create your own playbooks or use a number that have been created by community members.

You set depth charts, decide who will start, you make in game replacements.

You play out all your teams games coaching each, and let the computer play or quick sim the other games on the weeks schedule, which is mainly what I do.

If any of this sounds like what you want, buy the game.  I have spent more on software that has ended up as a coaster.  It not much and keep in mind that David has not stopped on this project and intends to add many of the management features in the future.  But of course to do that he needs our support both financially and from community members giving of themselves to create 3rd party features etc.

Hope this helps.

I think if you asked anyone who purchased the initial release to comment on the changes and improvements made to bring it the current level, I think you would understand my comment about buying it just to support future developement.

Tried it. Very impressive programme, but not for me, I do not know enough about US football to do the game justice. Advertised on ebay if any UK gamers are interested.

If it is not the done thing to advertise like this, mods, please accept my apologies and delete this post.
