Hi all, this will be the AAR of my brand new Pbem game against Trollelite.
We're gonna play CHS scenario 160, meaning the one with Extended AB's map and Experimental Nik's Mod.

HRs are the following:

1.No 4-engine bomb under 15000 feet, except for british 4-e squadrons (FE),( they use a single 4000 lb bomb) and B-17D
2.no B-29 under 20000
3.no B-29 anti-ship
4.no strategy bomb on resource under 100, and any other thing (oil, heavy industry, aircraft factory, etc) under 50, no man power attack except for japan home islands (no restriction for Jap side)
5. no night mission except for night fighter and Patrol boat units. Any side could convert a normal bomber unit to night bomber unit. To do so, they first have to be announced, after this, they act as night units and cannot henceforce be given day missions and cannot be converted back.
6.No PT enter those deep water hexes, that surrounded all six sides by water hex.
7.Allied asw group not exceed 6 ships, no restriction to japanese.
8.No sub landing (both sides)
9.No allied units (land, naval or air) can enter soviet territory.
10. Except initial chinese exp.force, only 2 other chinese corps could be changed to southeast asia command and be able to fight in burma and india. There is no restriction to support units, however. Those 2 corps should be announced.
11.chinese forces under china command can fight in manchuria, korea, taiwan, vietnam, but not siam, burma,DEI,or india, etc.
12,Philippine could only be landed on US and local forces.
13. No allied offensive action in northern pacific before soviet enter war. They can take back any amercian territory occupied by japanese, however.
14. No US corsair units on board carriers before 1, Jan, 1945. There is no restriction to British Corsair units. If Japanese ever use kamikaze before 1945, this restriction would be removed.
15. Japanese can only use those aircrafts designed for carrier, such as N1J or J2M are not allowed.
16. Only 6 carriers, 12 cruisers can be reconstructed by allied. Of these, 2 should be used to replace australian cruisers and not allowed to use on US units. Only Heavy cruisers and american "10000-tons" light cruiser could be replaced. Those reconstruced ships should be announced before enter service.

Japan will be free to attack 2 ports at first turn. My opponent already told me he's going to attack Singapore and Manila to take out allied SS fleet and force Z. It's ok for me.
Allied won't be moving any Ship on turn 1 except those already at sea.

I've done my first turn, now waiting to see how badly will be the situation in the SRA with KB around.....

Ah, obviously, Trollelite is forbidden in this Thread.

As soon as the war goes on i'll be updating with screenshots and map.

Stay tuned.

So the first reply has arrived...
...well, my situation looks already as grimm as it could be.
KB sunk the entire Singapore Fleet, while Land Air forces sunk the whole Subs Fleet present at Manila.
At the same time Palembang, and Most of Borneo (Balikapan Included are invaded.)
Baby KB is hounting south of Borneo and already intercepted and Sunk the Marblehead division.....

Oh com'on! Those ships at Wake aren't anything compared to the tons of ships that i'm losing in the DEI-SRA-PI!!!!

However, i'm quite used to the sync problems...i consider a kind of FOW result

Still waiting for your turn to come:-)

I don't think it as FOW, because Japs know exactly what happens, it's unfair to apply "FOW" on allied side only...  This first turn is actually rather disappointing, partly because you get a pre-warning, otherwise I perhaps have great chance to catch Repulse, too.

Disappointing? Oh, well, i won't say so. You have a solid footstep in SRA 2 weeks earlier than usual, which means that 90% of the fleet and ar assets present there are gone for good. Same for land units.
I really think this kind of opening move puts Japan in a good situation. Pacific early expansion is good, but SRA is defenetly more valuable!

But stop talking! Send me the turn

It's cool 2 C U back Gen. Hoepner. I'll have to add this to my list of AARs 2 read; I enjoyed some of your previous ones. How are things in China/Burma for you? Where do you plan to draw your initial lines of defense? And will you do a Sir Robin in Malaya? From looking @ the map I was wondering what would happen if the allies just pushed up from Singapore/Kuantan and tried to drive up past Tavoy and into Moulmein... I've never seen that done B4 but there have been a few games I've played (I'm a JFB) where I thought my opponent could have pulled that off.

Hi 1EyedJacks,

it's still too early to decide what to do. Have seen just the reply of the 7th Dec. so i really do not know nothing yet.
For sure i'll try not to do Sir Robin everywhere, cause i think Japan needs to be slowed down in the first 6 months of war.
I really never did anything like you describe in Malaya but i reallydo not think the Malayan troops could worth a dime in an offensive operation.
The problem is that Palembang is already invaded and Balikapan too so Singapore is virtually already cut off from any supply-route.
China and Burma...well, china with these new CHS maps is a big mess: tons of useless guerrilla units difficult to master. However here depends on what will my opponent do. If he tries to push me back i'll be forced to do something, otherwise i'll probably save supplies...
Burma...well, as said, too early to tell.

Will be interesting to see, with the KB in the SRA, what can the americans do in the pacific.
Wake, if it doesn't fall, can be a nasty nail in the japanese perimeter if reinforced.
In the south Tarawa and Rabaul are already invaded, so probably i'll be forced to stay far beyond the Solomons, at least for the first months....

However, it's still up to him. I'll try to be as elastic as it's necessary to be.

Oh, yes, a bit too cruel i'd say
I do not know if it's because of the sync bug that already afflicts us or what...probably the PoW was just the biggest ship in port and those nasty bastards targeted her all togheder
However, she blew up in a cloud of smoke along with her crew and her cpt.

I'm really curious how this experimental nik's mod acts with A2A and Flak. I really think Japanese AA was badly understimated in stock scenarios and A2A model needed a twekening due to the lethality of the air combats...

...let's see

General Hoepner....

Good to see you back in the WitP forums. If you want to see less lethality with A2A and greater lethality with AA you selected a good scenario.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/08/41

At the second day of war seems clear that my opponent is avoiding a mass invasion of Luzon in order to be able to take DEI and SRA sooner. the Whole Borneo is already in his hands and in few days will surely be full of Betties and Nells that will interrupt any supply route to Manila. As i always say, Luzon doesn't need to be conquered at the beginning: encirle it and proceed, it will starve anyway Good move Trollelite!
The strange fact is that Malaya hasn't been invaded. Only 1 unit has been unloaded at Singora...this can mean that the other divisions and minor units that usually take part in the Malaya invasion will be used for something else...Darwin?????mmm...that may be...it remembers me of my plan to invade Northern Oz by mid December that i used against MC one year ago...smart!!
However, i won't try to evacuate Malaya: the KB (which is now near Batavia) and the combined japanese air forces placed at Palembang and Bankok will sink any unit that will try to exit from the strait...

The good thing is that my major surface units (except for PoW and 2 british CLs and something like 5 DDs) are almost safe.

In the pacific the yanks are already on the move. We're sending men and supplies to Wake Island, Canton, Palmira and few other eastern isles in order to build a strong defensive perimeter. Convoys are on their way from Panama and SF to PH and Oz.

In China everything is quiet for the moment.

In Burma...too early to tell what he's doin'.

CA Houston with 3 heroic DDs managed to inflict some damages before leaving at full speed to Darwin....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/09/41

Ok, it's a slaughterhouse.....Around Java and in the Celebes i'm losing the entire ducth merchant fleet!
KB, baby KB and now the Nells at Tarakan are decimating my units that are trying to escape at their horrible fate...
probably the number of lost ships will arrive at 150... it's a disaster
The KB raided Sosarbaja, destroying what remained in port, while japanese assault troops landed at Merak, north of Java: so he bypassed Malaya and Luzon to assault directly Java!
His subs, placed in the Malaya strait and south of Java did a great job today, sinking or badly damaging 10 of my ships
Mauritius and Danae CLs are sunk for good at Singapore, after another daylight raid.
My brave duch pilots tried to inflict some damage to the KB, but they only achieved to waste their life and above all their precious planes! Now the Japanese air supremacy over Java is complete.

HK fell, after few days of naval bombardment. 20k british POWs are now driven back into china to work in the ri-educational japanese Camps.

Nothing i can do right now. Java is gonna fall quickly, then it will be Malaya's turn.
Gotta start to think to a plan to defend India and Oz...this is gonna be intense!!!!

Welcome back General,

Ready for another round in the grinder
Do you have a plan for how to get back a the Japs - defensive posture until late 42 or a fighting defense all over?

Hi PzB, there isn't no real plan yet. It's too early to make any committing decision. I'm already studying how to defend Oz and India, cause i'd say that considering the scheldue, he'll be in the position to launch a massive invading operation by the end of Jan 42, when presumibly SRA and DEI will be taken. Luzon will become a kind of a enormous POW camp and will cause him no hurt.
India can be a nasty place to land onto for the Japs but, as you well know, can also be a great auto-victory opportunity.
Another thing he could do...he could go for Russia...but this will leave the Brits without a real threat and so they'll be able to counterattack....
however, it's still to early to say something about that....

Let's see. One thing it's clear: this guys is a very good japanese opponent!

Ok, i gave the orders for the 10th of December.
Seems like that what remains of Dutch surface Fleet is trying to reach Perth in order to be reorganized, while the RN, with the lost of 1 BB, 2 CLs and 2 DDs suffered a worse luck and is now regrouping at Colombo.

In the following posts i'm gonna post few ideas about india and Oz...

UH, forgot to say that the initial HRs slightly changed...

2.no B-29 under 15000

4.no strategy bomb on resource under 100, and any other thing (oil, heavy industry, aircraft factory, etc) under 50

I hope all strategy bomb is done by level bombers. And at best there is an altitude limitation of 10000 (for 4-e 15000), because all
such missions in wwii are high-altitude area bombing.

There should be no man-power firestorm bombing out of Japan home islands. Politically there is simply unrealistic to make firestorm, say, a phillipine or chinese city, or hongkong, or singapore.

9.No allied units (land, naval or air) can enter soviet territory.

So even air transfer is forbidden. If this should be modified after soviet enter the war, we would discuss later. Don't sortie your red navy (including SS and transports) before they enter the war.

10. Except initial chinese exp.force, only 2 other chinese corps could be changed to southeast asia command and be able to fight in burma and india. There is no restriction to support units, however. Those 2 corps should be announced.

Divisions should not be limited. A corps divided cannot be viewed as division however.

12,Philippine could only be landed on US and local forces.

14. No US corsair units on board carriers before 1, Jan, 1945. There is no restriction to British Corsair units. If Japanese ever use kamikaze before 1945, this restriction would be removed.

Some other HR say not before 1944, I think 1945 is more fair. Anyway there is no limitation of marine fighter squadrons on cv. You could load 80 hellcats in a carrier if you like.

Another limitation is not mentioned, but would be viewed as gamey. That is, using british squadrons on american carriers, and vice versa.

This is what Trollelite suggested and i agreed with him. I only demanded that if Russia is activated i need 30 days in order to deploy my forces ...

I think you should adopt Japanese tactic against Japan.. perhaps a bold raid on HI with carriers?

Well, Pauk, everything can be done....we have a lot of time...if he goes for India or for Oz or for Russia...the pacific will be an american terrain...let's see, first of all i need to save India and Oz and delay him in Burma (even if i think he will skip Burma....i'd skip it if i wanted to go for India...)...then we'll be able to think at what my CVs can do in the pacific

You guys should make double sure you are running the exact same version. I really think this is the problem with the sync issue. I have not had a sync issue since first release and that was caused by not having the same version installed.

Also make sure that you completely exit WITP between turns.

Thanks, but we checked and we have the same version...however the sync problem isn't really a problem as long as he sends me the original combat text report...

Another bad day for the demo-plutocratic western allies!
KB and Baby KB keep on sinking my ships. Searly 200 ships will probably be sunk in this opening campaign...a disaster!!!!
His subs are doing a great job, sending to the bottom those ships who are not attacked by his air forces...really cannot do anything to stop this slaughter at the moment.

Now, with the conquest of Merak he has a foothold in Java....at least this phase will end quickly.
Manila has been bombed again. My air force has been completely destroyed and now nothing can stop him from bombing Luzon back to stoneage

I do not know wether these heavy losses in terms of ships will slow down my future movements...really hope not too much, considering that the war fleets are almost intact.
However, this opening move for Japan puts him in a great advantage. With the double port attack on turn 1 and with KB in the Java sea there's no way the allies can master a defence in the SRA-DEI. It's true that the pacific it's completely undefended, but the US need some time to be ready to do anything....well, i learnt something this time

The intel screen after 5 turns in war....

As you can see we mainly lost ships...nearly 1000 points for 140 ships..most of them are AKs,APs,TKs, along with 12 subs (at Manila), the PoW, 2 CLs, 5 minor DDs...

The air force has been badly hit but not that much, we can still hold our ground.
Most of RAF and US air force has been withdrawed from the front line and they're now reassebling in India or in Oz.
At the same time the first major convoys are leaving West Coast in order to bring supplies and fuel to Australia.

In Oz i'm moving my Australian Command attached forces to Perth and to Alice Spring, in order to defend the most exposed flank of the continent.

Oh, 1 more thing: in the pacific, Wake still holds. His ships withdrew from the island and now his 2 units are trapped there. Moving 2 units to reinforce the island that could be become a nail in the japanese eastern defensive perimeter. If i manage to reinforce Wake with units and planes, with the majority of the japanese army involved in far away campaigns, i will be able, in few months,  to threaten his pacific communication lines.
This game is going to be interesting....

Great to see you back, GH!

I'm not so sure this is a good idea. You're playing CHS, and Luzon has 500 resource centers - they generate 15,000 supplies per month! Your troops are NOT going to starve - in fact, that should be enough to start a strategic bombing campaign with 4Es from Clark Field. Meanwhile, you can rest your troops, let them fill out and build forts. It's going to be really tough for him to take Manila if he waits a couple of months...

13. No allied offensive action in northern pacific before soviet enter war. They can take back any amercian territory occupied by japanese, however.

Can you explain this house rule to me?

I cannot explain. Under my point of view in this game the jap player is really disadvantaged, so it's up to him to decide the HRs. Trollelite suggested it and i agreed. That's all.
In fact it doesn't have much sense but....

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/11/41

Another tough day for the allies.
KB entered in indian ocean and managed to sink more 20 ships that were trying to reach Perth.... What a bloody loss of men and equipment
In Manila he managed to sink what remained of the PI merchant fleet. the fighter PI force managed to take down an unescorted sally, but that's all
For what concerns Luzon...For the moment he can close whatever AF i keep open in Luzon, so there's no chance of bringing there any bombing force. Luzon will be conquered, as soon as he finishes with SRA he can master a great number of men to take Luzon...i knowbecause i always do the same playing as Japan in CHS...believe me, placing a bunch of bombers at Takao will ensure that every single american unit in Luzon remains suppressed, so then it's an easy task for the skilled japanese divisions....

In China nothing moves for the moment....

I'm slowly withdrawing the ducth air force from the SRA...probably within 3 turns every single ducth plane will be safe on the northern coast of Oz.
