These days saw the conclusion of Java Campaign.  After the surrender of KNIL field army, Imperial divisions marched into Soerabaja, they found this base only defended by some coast gun unit and aviation base force. So after a short fight this token resistance also collapsed. It yielded another 15,000 prisoners. The best thing is all resource, oil field and repair yard captured intact.

In the north sumantra, Imperial 35th Brigade make landing on Medan. All dutch units there cowardly flee to the northern tip of this island. However, their last asylum is soon to be overrun.

We know have 3 operation airfield to use against singapore. Palemberg, Johor Baru and Mersing. All together about 700 level bombers. Hopefully this business would end soon.

As  Soerabaja falls and no port damage there, 5th Division and 18th Division plus 2 tank regiment immediately reembark...All transports are faster than 15 knots, we want them to follow KB's progress.

One bad news is, that we found 2 ships always stay in Ticomalee. We suspect this is 2 infamous ML. If so, we perhaps have to face about 10,000 mines there...
We send a submarine to investigate, but she is damaged by Martin-139 almost as soon as she entered the port...

In Malaya theater, we sent every available bomber there. Today about 350 machines bombed singapore. With a "moderate" loss of 13 bombers we managed to hit supply depot 18 times and airbase or runway 288 times. Now this airfield is permanantly shut down for allies, and their supply stock is quickly dwindling...  Our "800 bombers Campaign" would begin tomorrow....

I made a mistake by not change some bomber unit's altitude from 6000 to 11000, and they get hit hard by singapore's 2 pound AA gun. We lost 29 bombers today, the only solace is most bombers not shot down right above that base but crashed later, so we manage to save a lot of pilots, at least.

Imperial 21st Division would arrive in Johro Baru by sea. 3 tank regiments are on their ways from Java. We have all together: 7 infantry divisions, 4 engineer regiments and 5 tank regiments for final assualt.

In Arabian Sea, we scored an important victory today. British minelayer Kung Wo , perhaps on her way to Bombay, was intercepted by Imperial submarine I-18 and quickly sent to bottom by 3 torpedos. It has a mine-capacity of 500. This means 15,000 mines/per month with the support of MLE. Now all history.

We send allies 2 new year present. First, after a decent bombardment from 4 "Kako" class cruisers, Imperial naval infantry captured Bali Island without much resistance. Second, Singapore harbor is heavily bombed, and other bombers tortured allies land force.

The loss of today is acceptable, 17 bombers. More important is, now almost every aussie and indian brigade get bombed once. We plan to bomb them 2 to 3 times, before our army cross the strait. These Australian and Indian Brigades are backbone of defence. If they collapse, then enire defence disintegrate.

A typical day of Singapore:

Day Air attack on Singapore , at 22,51

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 68
G4M1 Betty x 37
E13A1 Jake x 1
Ki-21-II Sally x 109
Ki-49 Helen x 3
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1
Ki-15 Babs x 1

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 22 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed, 9 damaged
Ki-21-II Sally: 3 destroyed, 28 damaged
Ki-49 Helen: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
570 casualties reported
Guns lost 9
Vehicles lost 1

Port hits 12
Port fuel hits 6
Port supply hits 3

Their supply now couldn't be much more than 10000, if we manage to hold it down to , let's say, 5,000, then singapore would fall in 3 days. We could mass about 4,000 AV, he at most 800-1,000.

Another day of heavy bombing, we like to see the result like this...

Day Air attack on 27th Brigade AIF , at 22,51

Japanese aircraft
G3M Nell x 60
G4M1 Betty x 26
Ki-21-II Sally x 76
Ki-49 Helen x 3

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 4 destroyed, 20 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed, 9 damaged
Ki-21-II Sally: 2 destroyed, 19 damaged

Allied ground losses:
385 casualties reported
Guns lost 8

Don't think there is too much combat value left in that brigade. From now on we could simply write it off. Several more raids like this on 22nd and Indian Brigades then we could literally walk into Singapore....

Another little pesky thing bombed to death... KXI after received 250Kg bomb from D3A and 30Kg from a E7A, finally sank today...We would not weep for her...

Our brave RO-34 sneaks back to Trincomalee harbor, allies seems not anticipating this WIEDERHOLUNGSBESUCH, so the Dutch Minelayer Rigel, solo survivior of once mighty DEI ML fleet, is happily drifting above wave and do her nasty business, unescorted.... suddenly a big, long, and hot thing thrust direct into...

Sub attack near Trincomalee  at 13,25

Japanese Ships
SS RO-34

Allied Ships
ML Rigel, Torpedo hits 1,  on fire,  heavy damage

BONSAI !!!!

Some of his best brigades are repeatedly hit, and, of course, airfield with its supply depot.

Now gentlemen, our operation " Altmark" and " Tegetthoff" are in full motion. Imperial 5th and 18th division, with corps armored and engineer units, are now on Indian Ocean east of Sumantra. The main force of combined fleet is at sea, with KB sails about 600 seamiles north of them and troop convoy.

The 17th Sentai of Aux cruiser and submarine force (all together 24 boats) complete their deployment to position. These 4 ships are followed by a second echelon, 2 more aux cruisers, and 2 AV,

Now you see the situation around Ceylon Island.

As you probabaly already read in Hoepner's post, his situation in singapore get desperate.  Before the first assualt day ended the fort already down to 3.  And allies lost nearly 10,000 men.  Another shock attack and there should bring conclusion.  We now plan to let our troops rest one day, because it's not very wise to continue offensive on disruption level 60-70.  One day earlier fall of singapore or not doesn't justify excessive losses of our army.

The situation in indian ocean is more interesting, as the thunderstorm continues for nearly a week, we simply cannot wait anymore. The troop convoy is quickly approaching cyelon, so now KB must strike. Unfortunately the weather report for tomorrow is still infamouse T-storm. We have to send KB into strike position and hope for the best. Anyway, it doesn't seem there are too many valuable targets in both ports. There are significant number of aircrafts on Colombo Airfield, however. We know there are Blumheim and Hudson level bombers and Vildebeest torpedo bombers. There is no sign of carrier based Barracuda or Swordfishes.

As expected, our attack on Ceylon doesn't go very well. I do make arrangement to minimize my loss, because Jap side cannot afford too heavy loss just to prove some fantasy thought. But I do pay enough price to prove some of my doubts. It seems opponent know exactly what would happen, even days of heavy t-storm prevent any effective air-recon.  Meager as allies resource is, they are deployed in critical location. Of course, anyone who read this aar would know exactly what happens.  Hoepner himself wouldn't read my aar that's for sure, but some too enthusiastic souls may make unwanted hints. Enemy deploys an effective defence, which could only base on accuracy knowledge of time and location of our movement. So I decide to suspend this aar for a while and see what happens later...

Paranoid much? It's an important location as well as an obvious target, so it makes sense for him to have defended it.

Yeah, I don't accuse any particular one, and I absolutely trust Gen.Hoepner's honor, if not that of others!

Now I stop writing detailed plans because lack of time, and of course, as the plan is not as good as I supposed, so it's no point to write long article anymore. From now on I only write some notes on lessons we learn from our exp. Detailed combat report you could look into Gen.Hoepner's AAR. It's no point to paste combat report here and waste everyone's time.

Note on Battle of Singapore:  11,000 feet bombing on AAA nest is too costly, perhaps a higher altitude is better

Note on Battle of Sabang: Even combined strength of those units on northern sumatra is not enough to defend against even a single mixed regiment, a decent  naval bombardment and some Preliminary bombing before final shock attack is recommended, however.

Note on Battle of Singapore: Beware on bug of Mersing and Johor baruh MSW trap

Note on Battle of Tincomalee: Always naval bombardment before landing among mass-minefield, even face the risk of heavy naval unit mined

Note on Battle of Colombo: If you organize several bombardment TF to the same target, there is no guarantee the fastest one would 100% arrive first!

Note on Battle of Colombo: Perhaps you should add restriction of single TF naval bombardment shield tactic to your HR

The allies submarine slaughted Jap ships with impunity, this is expected. What still disgusts is, save for a couple of lucky hit on Traunt, which already damaged by airplanes, not even a near-miss is achieved. This, of course means, they never find any trace of submarine. Those submarines never existed, except their torpedos are quite true...

The Traunt already sank German cruiser karlsruhe in Norway Campaign, the difference is, in that campaign, Germans seriously lack destroyers. Almost all of them are sent to Northern and Middle Norway to support landing operations. Even Battlecruisers have to travel alone. And in this game, half of all Japanese destroyers concentrate in one place to protect ships, HELP NIX...

The game would be continued in this weekend. I have seen the depolyment of GH armee in india and not yet forgotten it. GH obviously already has some plan to defend india, with his both hands of course. And we would simply let his left hand turn against his right hand....

Note on air campaign of Ceylon:  After about one week of struggle, and some decent naval bombardment, GH finally withdraw his air force further to the north. And his submarines are driven away from Ceylon. Allies lost at least 200 aircrafts shot down and another 120 destroyed on the ground. This by no means crippled his air force, but his dutch squadrons can receive no replacement and british squadrons simply cannot change equipment, so we try to utilize this weakness.

Note on incoming India Campaign: It seems GH would not abandon half india without a fight. Good, I would do the same thing, and I shall know what I fear most under same circumstance.

Note on his staff: Because I cannot read his AAR, I still dont know who are his chief staffs. This is significant disadvantage. But, for the tactical ability and level of strategical views , the only guys I hold a healthy respect here are those Croatian Gangs. As long as those guys dont advise him, I should not have too much to fear.

Note on Air campaign of Ceylon and India: I suppose there are only several days of entire month that the weather in this area not T-storm, thus leaves any close-support with only superficial effect.

Note on sub/ASW warface between main Japanese LOC: Until now allies subs manage to sink one light cruiser and one large AP, losing 2 to aerial bombing and 3 more to depth charge. This situation is unsatisfaying for both sides. I lost important ships, his non-dud-equipped subs are depleting, too.  GH would not have any more dutch sub reinforcemnt, his next batch british ss come almost 18 months later.  His asia fleet S-class boats are almost wiped out, he has to send more from west coast and panama.

Note on Battle of Southern India: GH places 2 brigades and perhaps one tank regiment to defend the tip of india west of madras. Don't know what he means to archieve by such deployment, single brigade is never enough to defend those places, as their fort level very low. He has no aviation support in those places so local cap is out of question, so he simply let Japs rout them. Don't  know  what is  the value of such  tactics.

I wellcome your comments for our  battle so far. It now becomes somewhat confusing.  Just  don't post any  GH's movement or intention.

Well, so far you've gone all out on him and achieved your objectives with relatively low losses. Let's see if you can keep the pace up though.

What is your planned timeframe for this operation anyway, do you have an time limit for it?

No, I don*t have a time frame. Once I fought against a weak opponent and manage complete these things before May, but GH seems quite strong so I don't know how thing would turn to be.

Note on Battle of Southern India:  GH sent 3rd Ind Bde and 48th gurkahs into madras in last minute, so our attack today get a bloody repulse. Seems sudden strike on this harbor fails and now a long siege would be inevitable.

But we manage to  drop some paras into Bangalore,  GH placed only a very weak tank regiment (seems without tank but only a handful of support vehicles) there, so we drive them away easily. Now Battle of Southern India becomes very interesting. GH could lose up to 4 infantry brigades and 1 tank regiment in the end if he becomes carelessly, if this happens, it would be beginning of the end of his rule in india.

Detailed report I suggest you to read aar from GH. I am too lazy to post any map...

What is GH up to do with Madras? He sent 2 Brigades and one Indian Division (brigade-size) to this fortress, and shows no sign of withdrawing them . I know there are 11 brigades (or brigade-size division) in India, so they have 14 brigades to defend this sub-continent (lets say 18th British Division equals 3 brigades), not counting the reinforcement. If he lost this 3 brigades, plus other 2 that is south of Bangalore.... He simply cannot afford to let them destroyed, or even routed. Let's see his next movement.

As our side, paras just captures Bangalore base and 2 other minor bases south of it. Nearly 10,000 IJA troops already air-lifted to Bangalore, in 3 days! I am waiting for his counter-strike. He must do it quickly, or never. GH uses nearly 40,000 troops to defend coastline, let only a handful trucks and support guys guard one of two his main advance bases and main retreat route, a pity. He is inviting a Kesselschlacht.

Now finally allies troops begin to withdraw toward Hyderabad, and as they move along coast line, they provide easy training target for KB, others fall into victims of land-based bombers, so allies lost about 1,000 troops per day.  44th India Brigade, which defended Manargudi, also fled, but as Bangalore captured, its withdraw turn to confusion and ends up in a no-road hex, now it must serves as training target for 2 weeks...

India 99th Brigade also retreats toward Hyderabad and enters Bangalore hex. But the road leading to Hyderabad is already occupied by Japanese troops, so lets see if GH would withdraw it to Mangalore. Capture Bangaore from Japanese is out of question for allies.

In Vishakapatanam, IJA 15th Army is landing. GH's garrison, a bataillon from understrenghed 26th India Division, is totally ruined. The original 1,400 strong bataillon group is now reduced to about 300 fugitives without any heavy weapons, in wild flight toward Calcutta, with Jap tanks in hot pursuit...

GH sails Saratoga TF into Iwo Jima area, seems he has too much carriers to know how to deal with them.... OK, I suppose he want to ferry some wildcats or SBDs into Luzon...  For now we don't have anyway to stop him, so let's see his next move.

In Southern India, he succeeds to withdraw 48th Gurkhas and 23rd Indian Division, however, 3rd Indian Brigade and an artillery regiment were caught by IJA and routed... His 99th Brigade is ambushed by japanese in Bangalore and dispersed, and 44th of course cannot go out of that roadless hex... He could now write off these 3 brigades... And Madras falls into Japanese hand without much resistance. The base force is routed and retreat toward wrong direction. It is doomed.

This is the combat report from battle with 3th brigade and A'India artillery regiment, don't think there is too much left of these 2 units...

Ground combat at 20,20

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 39504 troops, 174 guns, 59 vehicles, Assault Value = 973

Defending force 2474 troops, 12 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 73

Japanese max assault: 574 - adjusted assault: 199

Allied max defense: 55 - adjusted defense: 16

Japanese assault odds: 12 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
289 casualties reported
Guns lost 3
Vehicles lost 1

Allied ground losses:
109 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

And allies C Brigade from 26th Indian Division was routed for last time, now with 20-30 desperados left, it is not combat unit anymore, but a bunch of bandits...

Note: The stupid game engine let allies cheat again. Japs aircrafts refuse to take off even enemy ship ( a single ak) is within the normal range, weather all good, and allies aircrafts of course take off even if my ships in the maximal extended range...  Well, it's rather disheartening when enemy continues to get adventage by such so called allies this allis that which is actually nothing other than open cheat... Because my business in real life let's simply slow this game down for some time and first let GH get somewhat bloody-nosed in HIS Japanese game, too bad he dares not take Japs against me.

We would find some ways to counter that allies cheat in the meantime.

It's obvious I could get no allies game from him, no matter with inducing or threat... He is a clever guy and refuse to talk about that at all,  just repeated says taking japs is my own choosing. Pity, I only feel confort to play jap game when I have an allies game in my hand. So I wait until snip send me another save file to continue this one.

Sorry for bother all you with those stupid words, if snip could give one turn per day I would not complain anymore, but since he gives Jap game so I own him, and so I could not really be angry with him...

I would like to give him a Jap game, but since he has difficulty to deal with even one game I really doubt he has time to handle two simultaneously...

Next time I would ask two mirror game launch together so everyone has his own allies game so no one whine anymore.

So why are you playing Japan at all?

I know it's none of my business, but I think it is very unfair to stall the game until someone else sends you an Allied turn. Just my 2c, don't take it the wrong way...

I just like to curse those stupid japanese hardware.... As cheat, this is an analogy, means this game simply provide allies as much adventage as one normally only get from a cheat machine in other games. Of course one cannot shut these things down, but I hope at least there are options to turn off a sight and jap asw ineffectiveness,  as jap sub doctrines. Numerical inferioty is what I could bear, but I strongly dislike A-sigint.

Besides those stupid japanese weapons, I am not satisfied with my performance, either. I am just too dumb for well executing any effctive strategy plan. The only consolation is GH not very effctive, either.

No, I would not stop this game as long as GH not terminate it, or until this game becomes meaningless (i.e. all home islands captured). I have no intention to do so, I invested far more time than GH! Still I am angry with Jap weapon, bad dice result, and most of all my poor performance, sorry to bother you with my emotions.

Note on Naval Battle of Bombay> We sent 2 old Nagara class cruiser to raid Bombay port. It is estimated that there are several tankers in that port, but none was found. However, they encountered a strange mix of old pre-dreadnought (actually an large armored cruiser), Q ships with unlimited torpedo stores (every single ship with 48 torpedoes), and a lone minesweeper, something really like that party in "The Wizard of Oz" or LOTR...

Night Time Surface Combat, near Bombay at 18,11

Japanese Ships
CL Yura, Shell hits 1
CL Kinu

Allied Ships (Fellowship of Bombay...)
PG Georges Averoff, Shell hits 2, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
MSW Travancore, Shell hits 1
AP Botlea
AP Cape Sable
AP City of Durban
AP King Guffyd

Facing this overwhelming strength my cruisers reacted wisely, launched their torpedoes and quickly fled... Thanks God this is a night action, or they could be screwed...

My G3Ms despatched those Q ships in the day turn, too bad GH wasted them in such a way...
