I've recently had the chance to fulfill a lifelong ambition, aquiring the fastest gaming laptop on the planet. An Alienware Area-51 M9750, N-Core 2 Duo 2.33GHZ T7600 4MB Processor with 2GB Kingston RAM, Nvidia 9750 GTX 512MB Parent video card AND Nvidia 9750 GTX 512MB Daughter, 9750 SLI Cable video, 8x DVD+/-RW and 2 Fujitsu 120GB(240GB)7200 system drives w/RAID 0 Striping 2 Drives.
I've got Advanced Tactics, The Witcher, Fantasy Wars, World in Conflict, Empire Earth 3 and Crysis pre-ordered...i can't seem to have enough time and energy to play all of 'em. The elusive gaming panacea...beware it's wrath.

If you need some help with that, I'm sure there are volunteers who could "time-share" that system with you to try out those other games.

Nice system but with the money you spend on it why not upgrade it to a 4GB RAM or 3GB at least with all those graphic intensive games you listed 2GB seems small now a days.  Just my humble opinion.

After some research and techie literature i concluded that an additional 2GB of RAM only would give a 2% to 4% increase as per benchmarks. I have two other laptops with a 512MG and 256MG Nvidia card respectively, both with 2GB RAM, and have no problem with any games other than "shadows" with the 256. You're right, it is alot of money, another $700+/- was just even more overkill IMHO.

Definitely a nice rig, but your claims as to it being the fastest are a bit overstated. You could have got the same chassis from Sager, for several hundred dollars less, and then built it out with an X6800 processor and RAID 5. Then, you would have a better claim to it being the fastest on the planet...

Did you go with dual boot or have that crappy OS Vista installed HP? Also, I have to ask how do you play those kiddy clickfest jerkfest games with a finger pad vs a mouse or joystick?

Vista? Hell no, i wanted this for gaming! I have Vista on the family laptop, it's a headache alright. How do i play games? Easy, i'm a lefty so i always have a Logitech Marble Mouse. Secondly, i can game with the laptop in my lap on the "Lapinator Plus"(a heat resistant lap desk/pad) with my right hand at the arrow keys OR on a desk/coffee table with my "Fang Zboard Gamepad"...simple and easy.

Lets see... it has been about 4-5 hours from the original post...

Yup, the laptop is obsolete by now.

Of course, you need all of that gaming power for the resource hog that is... Advanced Tactics. My computer thought it was an Apple IIe as soon as I loaded it. Of course, that doesn't stop me from liking it about 5x more than The Witcher (which is still good, mind you).

What is REALLY pathetic is that, if I had your rig, I would be using it to play ASCII based Rogue-likes and Dwarf Fortress more than anything. But that much power in my hands WOULD be a comfort, none-the-less.

Grats,
SoM

LMAO Larry that made me choke on my coke hahahaha You guys sometimes.

BTW HP how do you keep that thing cooled? It can't have the huge fans desktops do so how is the cooling system for high end laptops like that? What kind of tempatures is it running? Also, is there a plugin adapter where you don't have to use the batteries all the time?

You had to ask, well... i have a couple Laptop Coolers(Belkin/Tripp-Lite) that have dual fans and plug in to a USB port. I always have my laptop plugged in so it's not a problem, the fans keep the airflow and the rest is history.

Just this year I have bought

PC
- crysis collector edition
- gears of war
- call of duty 4 collectors edition
- bioshock collector edition
- two worlds royal edition
- guild wars Nightfall Collectors Edition
- guild wars: Eye Of The North
- guild wars 2006 edition
- guild wars factions collector edition
- hellgate: london collector edition
- warcraft battlechest
- lord of the rings online collector edition
- witcher collector edition
- orange box
- fantasy wars
- rainbow six raven shield
- rainbow six vegas
- swat4
- swat4 expansion
- stalker collector edition
- jade empire special edition
- beyond good and evil
- mediaval 2 kingdoms
- fear extraction point
- silent hunter 3
- silent hunter 4 collector edition
- mask of betrayal
- xwing collection
- xwing alliance
- black & white 2
- black & white 2: battle of the gods
- oblivion shivering isles
- spellforce 2:dragon storm
- wizardry 8
- anachronox
- heroes of might and magic 5: tribes of the east
- heroes of might and magic 5: hammers of fate

PS2
- rogue galaxy
- dragon quest vii
- shadow of the colossus
- final fantasy xii

Money isnt really an issue, allthough many of them I got pretty cheap. Som of them are old too xwing allthough been a "remake", the original game was released in 1993. I havent played a single one yet (EDIT:excluding xwing & BW2) - they are all still in wrappers on the shelf. Im still playing the games I bought last year (OP flashpoint game of the year currently). Kind of like a dvd/music collection. The games contain tons of video/music/stuff even tshirts and daggers.

There are rules which Ive enforced for myself to reduce the buying:
1. I have to finish every game before starting a new one
2. All games must be good or special/I have to like the demo + get atleast average scores
3. Games that belong to a series that I allready own can be bought even if they are mediocre at best

I need to invent new rules really soon. Oh yeah Im a sad panda.

Lol 10 to 1 you don't live up to that rule. You should change it though to 1. I have to finish a game BEFORE BUYING A NEW ONE! ;) Most can't live up to that rule either.

HEY! You guys notice Zakhal doesn't have any MATRIXGAMES on that list? For shame for shame. And all the wonderful NEW Matrixgames titles they have been releasing this year. (chuckle)

Problem with matrix games is usually:

1. They are multiplayer only (AI plays sitzkrieg) and after war plan orange Im tired of pbem games that require weeks to micromanage out a single turn
2. Remakes of games I allready own - remake has no graphics update and the dated graphics has worn out my eyes (C64 crusade in europe had superb graphics in 1985 but now its ghastly)
3. Remakes of games that I allready own - the remake is actually worse than the original game
4. Games that are not compatible on my PC

Advanced tactics might be the only game that I might consider. Atleast the reviews say it has tough AI.

OMG You liked Age of Wonders? It has the worst design element in it than any other fantasy game I know of with that take the capital/kill the wizard win the game feature. The AI is horrible in that game. It allows me to set 3 full stacks of my units on its capital doorsteps and then I proceed to defeat every faction in that manner. That's totally stupid. The only Age of Wonder game that has any value is the first one and the bad thing about it is still the horrible AI and it's building of too GD many siege engines and of course NO RANDOM MAP generator. AOW:SM finally brought a random map generator to the game, but, the AI and that craptastic way of winning the game so easily ruined any real play value out of the game.

Does Fantasy Wars have random generated maps? A buy point system for skirmish games like a Quick Battle Combat Mission? Or does it have linear mission maps like Fantasy General has? I hate linear anything. I like the system in Warlords IV though. You can take 3 of your heroes from your last random game and use them in the next. Plus you can go forwards and backwards with them in the difficulty range as well. Warlords IV after patch 1.04a is a SUPERB game also. Once you get used to the new combat system it's actually better than the others. It's very hard to exploit the AI like you could in previous versions with questing for Dragons as Mercs in WL III. lol
