I must agree. This is a blast! The graphics are beautiful and the game play is exciting. Great job!

I am just loving those huge explosions the carnage is something else! This is the first game for ages that has had me laughing in shock and awe at what was happening. I can't wait for the mods!

You want to laugh histerically, you should see the quick battle between Andrew W and I while we were testing out BHG last night...and I do mean quick. It only lasted 24 seconds before a force morale break ended it. In that 24 seconds, there were around 90 casualties. All you heard were guns, explosions and screams.

Granted, we were not tactically trying to do anything...just testing out how things went on BHQ. Not knowing what the other guy was doing, we both crammed are teams into buildings and streets near the edge of our deployment zones and set them to charge into the buildings across the street. Some ended up being 5m apart when we hit begin. In 3 seconds, one of my fireteams was completely wiped out. An M1 setting back from the action had clear line of site on a building that Andrew just happened to pack 5 or 6 teams into (and set to charge across the street). Set on defend, the M1 pumped 3 rounds into that building in quick succession and caused 30 casualities.

We were on Teamspeak, and couldn't quit laughing during, and for a few minutes after...and it is still just as hilarious watching that replay today.

The name is spot on. Tactics are the key. Fire and maneuver, flanking attacks, using vehicles to get troops in the rear and on the flanks quickly.

If anyone wants to see that replay, just email me, and I can get it to you

I saw what's described above happen plenty of times in the earlier versions of CC. My opponent or I might spend fifteen minutes setting up our forces, only to see them blown away in the opening moments of the engagment, the quick and the dead so to speak. I don't consider this a flaw, BTW. Rather, it's why I consider this system to be superior to turn-based games like the old Combat Mission series.

I am loving this game as well so far. Even my jaded teenage son was impressed. Normally, he mocks any game I get from Matrix. He considers them boring old people games.

But this one caught his eye.

I just love the realism. Its amazing after all these years and all the countless RTS's that have come out since the first CC that nobody has really improved on the concept.

This reminds me of the first time I played CC all those years ago. Only it looks much better and the modern weapons introduce a whole new level of challenge because they are so damned lethal.

I like that unlike in the past, you really have to be careful of things exploding. My stryker got hit and taken out, the soldiers dismounted, and I ran them forward towards cover. Before they cleared the vehicle, there was a secondary explosion on the stryker...or another hit...and 4 of the 5 guys in my fire team were killed or incapacitated (the were probably 5m, or less, away). For some reason, things just seem more realistic as far as simulating the damage that shrapnel from explosions can do.

Yeah the secondary explosions are killers and the the mortars are very, very, naughty. Some of the multiple explosions are quite something. For me this release has pumped back some excitement into a jaded old gamer!

Yeah I blew up a truck and it destroyed a house with it and the poor OPFOR troops around it.

As a CC devotee, I'm delighted at the release of this game. That said, I'm a little hesitant to go too deep in describing its mechanics. I'm pretty darn green with the package, as I waited to purchase until I could get both download and CD versions.

One thing that I have to mention is that the maps are HUGE compared to those found in earlier games in the series. I'm not sure how this will ultimately impact one's experience, except to say that many will not be satisified playing alone because some scenarios will try to get away from them, even with only fifteen friendly unit slots open.

Conversely, I honestly believe that CCMT could assume a MASSIVE following with MP as its focus, with 6-10 players commanding platoons of three to five squads. I realize that my zeal for MP is foreign to some of our readers, but that sounds like heinously, wild-ass fun to me. We just have to find a way to stage the contests. Point me to the front, CPT!

I love CCMT too :) .
I love the multiplayer, the ease of modding and the new features like vehicle mounting and digging in :) .

Frankly, I don't even miss the campaign, but it may be because I played only CCIV and CCV whose campaigns are stupid and unrealistic.

Hey, how does this game compare to SPMBT? The graphics that I have seen look more realistic. Does this game have the versatility that is in SP? Are there helos, amphibious ops, paratroopers etc? Does this game have a complete OOB for the Army as well as the Marines? How many other nations are there, and can you build your own maps? Thanks

Hey, how does this game compare to SPMBT?

It doesn't. There is no comparison to make. They are in different genres. One is a turn based strategy game and the other is a turn based tactical game designed for multiple players.

quote:

Does this game have the versatility that is in SP?

No. In no way, shape or form. Just as SP does not have many of the game features of CCMT
quote:

Are there helos

No. Not at least for the use of Vertical envelopment.
quote:

amphibious ops

No. There are no amphibious components to this game.
quote:

How many other nations are there,

2 basic sides. Opposing forces which are composed of mostly Russian made equipment and Army which is composed of mostly American made equipment.

and can you build your own maps?

I have no idea but certainly not with just the basic editor or as easily as any of the Steel Panther titles. The basic editor allows you to create new missions using existing maps.

The two games cannot be compared in that way. Unlike the Steel panthers series each tree, window, and doorway needs to be taken into account. Each man on the battlefield needs to be considered as well as his current state of morale and stress.
Steel Panthers is a entire level removed. This is simply a different gaming experience.

Great idea though. If some day the two game platforms could be combined and on the same level as the World at War series, I'd be willing to pay more than I can afford to spend on computer games for it.

If your curious to see what the game is like, and you like playing in real time against real people, then I would recommend it. For the price, it is a good buy.

If that is not good enough for you, then just think.... What would Chesty do.

Thanks for the in depth detailed reply. I guess that this game is seems to be more on an individual level with morale and other factors taken into account. The terrain graphics look more realistic, almost like real terrain. I guess I'll wait. But it would be nice to see a total upgrade for the SP series, which I know is not going to happen. What would Chesty do...he'd be glad he was surrounded, cause he'd have the enemy just where he wanted!

theres no in game map maker.. however if you own PSP, Photoshop or even Fireworks its not that hard.

Heres a guide I made at the CSO site:

http://www.closecombat.org/mmg/

the tools, templates and additional guides can be found here:

http://www.closecombat.org/CSO/index.php?name=CmodsDownload&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=35&orderby=dateD

Note this DL section is under repair, there are LOTS mroe textures and goodies that will be relinked to this area in the next week or so.

These are the same tools I sued to make over 200 CC maps, including Ghazwah which you find in CCMT. No secrets, I made that map using same techniques shown in my guide.

Theres also additional tutorials by a real outstanding mapped named Dodam, find them here:

http://www.closecombat.org/dodamtutorials/

Southern_Land, who is the master CC Mapper, make this guide which taught me how to make maps, still a great guide too!
