I recently bought a new computer and have been trying to get SPWAW working.

I Downloaded the Enh Version, from the site here, and went to install.

I got a missing file error.

"smackw32.dll"

Or do I have to download versions 8 + and then mod swap ?
If that is the case, can someone direct me to the earlier versions ?

Enhanced is just a mod of the game. You need to download and install SPWAW 8.2 first. Then there are patches for 8.3 and 8.4 and unofficial beta patch 8.403

Enh includes the 8.403 and IMO is all that you need if playing the AI.

well thats what it sounded like....if he did and he got that error message, Wild Bill and others had that same message, so I posted that file somewhere at the Depot, it just goes in the main SPWAW folder, and that solved the problem

Alby, could you not post that file on the ENH d/l site? It's only 70kb.

What IS the smackW32.dll anyway? Does it have something to do with the opening video sequence? I do have it , and have no CTD issues. Strange that such a tiny file can give folks problems in running the game. It's a holdover from ancient times, isn't it?

I did a forum search, and found references going back to 2000.

Don't worry about it, man. It's a common problem. For a newbie, the exact upgrade path is confusing. We need a new sticky, maybe : "How to Get the Latest SPWaW Version", or something like that.

Goblin, you wanna step in and clear it up?
