I would by this day 1, earlier if they want my money in their bank sooner, pre-orders might encourage an investment in things like a better AI

I too have evolved from PacWar, Matrix's PacWar to WITP. It would be 90% of my gaming time. I also have Highway to the Reich, & Conquest of the Aegean & WPO and while excellent, havent grabbed me like WITP. Sadly I got TOAW III and was dissapointed (but for $40AUD..)

I am dissapointed that the announcement was made with so much left to resolve, Summer 08, when is that??, a bit closer to the date with a more solid idea of what's being offered would have been better. IMHO, I would have suggested the developers made selected approaches to forum members to impose upon thier knowledge, maybe the same has been done but input via the forum is free.

Having a little knowledge( and we know how dangerous that is) of the new game, I believe it will be a fantastic improvement on WITP, and have access to the latest standards of research into OOB's etc. The new maps looked fantastic 6 months ago, given AB's skills they would only have improved further.

Cost, isnt an issue to me, in the scheme of things it will provide hours of entertainment.

PS. Can all of the AE threads be moved into another forum, or sub forum, else WITP is going to drown amongst the posts.

I agree with you except for one point. I think that an early announcement works in favor of both players and developers. Contacting "selected" members from the forum is not the right way. By doing it thew way they did and then reading and responding to the players on the forum was a great idea IMO.
Asking and receiving players to test and contribute ideas will, in the long run make the AE a better game. I also think that giving us an expansion with many new ideas is cheaper for us and less costly for Matrix. They could have created a WitP 2 instead but I think tat doing it this way is a sort of thank you for our long running support of the forum and this game. They can have my money before release if it will help but even if I do not play it a lot I will still support the game.

THANKS I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER, They don't call the company Paradox for nothing. You might have added that there is no longer an "official" forum for the "older" versions of games such as HOI (only the current versions) for the most part.

"Again that is no different to the current game." Except for the fact that we wont have an option like editorX for AE. A difference indeed has taken place.

My goodness!

First, it is probably premature to really be making "buy" or "no buy" decisions. There will be plenty of time for that.

Second, I don't think we've ever said there wouldn't be an editor-X equivalent for pwhexE - though we haven't committed to it either. And note that we did hire the creator of editor-X to build the AE editor!
:)

Third, the new pwhexE format is actually simplier than the old format was (no packed data), so even if we did not include an pwhexE editor, I'll bet it would not be more than 1-2 weeks before the MOD community get one out there. As you say, this is a pretty darn Sierra Hotel MOD community, AB made his first map (as a member of the MOD community) in about 3 months after the game was released. And he did it all on his own. James wrote editor-X on his own, etc. Now yes we co-opted some of the MOD community to help us with AE - but that doesnt mean 10 other guys can't do it.

But I suspect James will get an equivalent into the AE editor at some point, he does have other priorities right now.

There will always be the player like a small child will pot if they do not get there way. The idea of using the input from forum members and to release AE as an expansion instead of a WitP 2 is just one small way to show us you support the forum and the players..To many times people over look the important point of time and money vs. "Well I want this or I won't buy it" type of attitude. Sure we all would like to see this or that included but its not always a realistic attitude. Your doing the right thing with AE not the how much money can we make thing and I for one thank you for doing so.
