Had an issue attacking Neaples garrison last night, the garrison surrendered but inflicted a one factor casualty wich i wanted to take from my two factors of militia,a but the game didnt want to allow me to do that. Worked fine to choose inf though.

Reading the manual it seems like it should be possible to take the loss in militia not sure if this is a feature or a bug.

Regards

zaq

It depends on how much morale loss you took.  After you exceed either 1.00 or 2.00 (I can't recall for sure) you have to take casualties in any but militia if you have them.  Not sure that this is what it was but it may have been.

Found it

"Where possible, militia casualties may be taken only until (not including) the round in which the cumulative morale loss of the army equals or exceeds "2.0".

In the round in which a side breaks, one of its losses must be cavalry (any type-• regular, feudal, cossack or freikorps), if possible."

Thanks for the pointer, hmm must remind myself not to put cavallery in militia corps withoutout regular Inf.

However there is another rule which states:

Assault Combat Resolution
These simulate attempts to “storm” a city by an assault through a breach. Assault combat is resolved similarly to trivial combat, but is even more simplified.

The besieging forces fight on the “5-1” combat table and the defenders on the “5-2” combat table of the Combat Resolution Chart (see section 14.10) for a maximum of three rounds (assault combats never last more than one “day”) with no modifications for terrain, leaders and/or cavalry superiority. All available factors on both sides must participate. There are no pursuits and assault combats may not be reinforced.

Final morale levels are determined as per Section 11.2.5.

Any type of army factor may be removed as a casualty, at the controlling player’s option, during any round of an assault combat if desired.

... and so the militia should have been able to be removed as per the last para of this rule.
