I did read the manual and play the both tutorial missions. Great.
I started to play with an early campaign, but I'm absolutely impotent... I do industrialization, I collect money and creat new units. But I can't create Armies, becauase I can1t create Divisions. I have a lot of units, generals... but I can1t form them to a Division, because there is no Division HQ unit. And I can't create Division HQ unit. I found nothing about Division HQ in the manual, just "it necessary to create divisions".

I got a message in the message panel, I have to attack CSA or I lost some NM. But I have only a lot of (hundred) unorganised units (detachments) with lot of penelty (35%). Can I attach CSA with these forces? And later I got Division HQs or what?

Why not exists any campaign tutorial...? Just for a few turn... How can I start...

Ugh!

I found now this:
http://ageod.nsen.ch/aacwwiki/Manual:Army_organization#Division

It's absolutely different as the PDF manual... I'm confused.

Look in the AAR section of this forum.  http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1505629 Div HQs no longer exsist with the later versions.

When McDowell gets unlocked, make the two 2 stars you have into corps commanders, and give them divisions. Keep them there while they build up.(make sure you have replacements in the pool, rule of thumb is 10%.) Build a supply depot there too.

Read the link you posted. Read the entire wiki. It is up to date. To form a division, you need an active general. Hold the mouse over him. If it says he can't do......, then he can't form a division.. You also must, after you form a division, merge units with it. (No making a general a div commander without at least one brigade/regiment/battery. he'll revert to his former self, and you lose the cost.) You must also have in your pool the cash, conscripts, and war supply when you do it. Also, even though the Union gets 48 divisions, you don't get them all at once.

You should go to the offical forum and search for the quick reference guide by Hobbes.

Read this: http://www.ageod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6823. And this: http://www.ageod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6580&highlight=national+morale about that NM loss.

You don't need leaders to attack anything. On the one hand that's good. You can pile say 20 units together and send them off. Don't have to worry about leader activation. Just click the red attack button and charge. And if the other guy does it too, you have a big street fight. But then again, single unit cav raids, ripping up rail lines, taking a city or two......

But if your leaderless mob runs into those same 20 enemy units organized into divisions, corps, and an army, well..........

As the Union, don't try to win the war before 1862. General Scott had the right idea. You have 114 turns. Build the army. Organize it. Fight small battles to get some experience for both leaders and led. Don't get too reckless. (I tried to sneak into Nashville. Lost the entire division. Ouch.)

Oh, I have to apply the latest patch! This patch overwrite the manual with a new one? Or wiki?

Yesterday I could create a division, but I don't remember how... :D I tried to unify units with a general and I noticed a Tooltip hint, I can only unify exact units, eg: 2 inf, 1 cav and a general. Then I collect these units, but the + (unify) button didn't activated. Then I pressed the tent (division commander) button and THEN the + button and voila! I got a new division... And after this process, I could add more units (an artillery) to this division. So maybe I will restart this campaign.

Thanks for your nice help!
Exactly I'm not a civil war expert - I'm european - but I really interest all military history and when I was kid I read a book about a cavalary mission, when a Union cav brigade raid accross CSA from North to Baton Rouge (or New Orleans) and CSA tried to catch them and sent a lot of forces to catch them, while the main USA force cross the river Mississipi and forced a great victory (but I don't remember for the names. But it was very exciting.
I told this, because in the campaign, while I tried to organised my corps at the eastern coast, the CSA cavs capture a lot of town in the West. Maybe this is a good time to learn more about civil war!

I tried to sneak into Nashville. Lost the entire division. Ouch.
Ops, I wanted to capture Nashville too, because a friend of mine live there... :)

Can I ask one more about a campaign?
I got an order from the press to attack CSA in the East coast in the begining of the campaign (about 5th turn). And I attack with my two corps to the next regions and capture a bigger city from CSA. But I got a message from the press in the next 3th turn: I didn't attack CSA, so I lost a few NM. What had I do to solve this task? I have to march deeper to the CSA? But you told, don't want to win in the begining...

The Matrix version of AACW was sold with an updated manual and a version which had already the Div HQ removed. So I don't understand how you can still stumble on them!

I'm a reviewer. I got a press copy from Matrix. If I remember correctly, it's 1.05 (but I'm not sure). But I found an 1.07h patch on the ageod site. I have not to apply this patch?

Link number three that I provided: To wit, you have to move 10 units next to Richmond. IIRC, it reflects the enormous political pressure put on Lincoln, both from newspapers, and the fact that the 90 day enlistments were expiring, to take the city before the Confederate Congress opened. Most Union players, me included, just take the loss.

It isn't that you don't want to win in the beginning, it's that you don't try to. Against any competent CSA player, it isn't going to happen. Southern leaders are far better at start than the Northern ones.

Almost forgot. You can merge 1 brigade with a leader who isn't a div commander.

Build militia units and defend the towns with them. Build some cavalry to chase the raiders with.

It won't hurt to apply it. 1.07i will be offical soon, then comes 1.08 around Dec 25th.
