I just played (and won) my first ever EIA game!

I played Austria and it seems that because I had ticked to support several minor countries, I ended up with with a few isolated Free States that didn't have any forces of their own : eg Luxembourg. The problem is that any time I fought and won against France, all of my forces would get repatriated from the seige of Paris to Luxembourg - overstacked for the resources of the province, cut off and landlocked leaving me desperately asked each diplomacy phase for access to walk them out - access from either Prussia or France.

This happened with Luxembourg as a free state and as a conquered state. The addict friend that introduced me to this game kept muttering something about - its supposed to repatriate you towards the capital or towards a depot/line of supply.

Is this an intended outcome? It doesn't feel much like a win.

Ditto here.  As Austria I invaded Prussia after they declared war on me.  After overrunning them, all my forces ended up in Mechlenburg without a route home.  I had about two corps in my home country and Turkey declared war on me.

Yes, it appears that taking "access" is a critical victory condition.

Ask for enforced access to help avoid that problem.

I suggest a time period to get the troops out after the war ends. You have 3 months to eliminate all corps and 6 months to remove garrisons. Any left in the nation are lost.

As enforced access is not an option for conditional peace this is a major problem, I can imagine a situation where one country sues for peace due to strategic reasons to capture enemy armies (example: france sues for conditional giving austria luxemburg to where austrian forces are repatriated while turkey march to Vienna forcing Austria to a harsh unconditional).

I also dont like the idea of armies flying from one part of the map to another  (say Austria are at war with Spain with troops inside spain, and get attacked by Turkey, Spain sues for peace ceding say Marocko to Austria, and the Austrian army is moved to marocko where it can fight the Ottomans (not sure its a good or bad thing)  or France wants to go to war with Russia therefore France declares war on Turkey who cedes Besarabia to France and Frances army is Teleported to the Russian border....  )

Major risks for exploits here...

I also wonder how the game is treating voluntary access and revoking of the same, havent tried playing around with this (if its even possible to revoke access) but if you can it can have similar effects, like teleporting the russian troops back from prussia to face a Turkish invasion...

Think we need some clarifications and fixes in this area...

I have to agree with thi sproblem as well. I had managed to eke a surrender of our GB and a 3 corps were in england. As peace I chose 3 provinces. I took Malta, Gib  and Wales. Great now 3 French Corps are STUCK in Wales which has no port... Really the game should allow perhaps some form of limited access for 1-2 months to repatriate, as per the original game - and/or repatriate TOWARDS the owner's capital not away from it. Yeah I can see the teleport abuse in this.

Wouldn't the easiest solution to this problem be to rewrite the code to move forces to the nearest home nation territory (i.e. not free state, conquered minor, or ceded territory)?

If there's a way to allow forces to march out of the surrendering nation, that would be the best choice, but I suspect it's harder to implement.

Best and easiest to implement would probably be repatriating of garrisons to reinforcement pool and 6 months (3 would be too short if its winter) enforced access to move corps back, another option i could buy wich probably is better from a programing point of view, is that the corps disolves and become available as reinforcement in next reinforcement phase, or even better in next land phase (with 0 move as per feudal troops)

Both options are lots better than the current repatriation rules, and even if not perfect, at least less abusable and game ruining.

Same problem than Trin

In this case, the way should be to remove all corps and garison and "import" them as reinforcement in a next reinforcement phase (but not the next).
The delay of disponibilty could  be proportional to the distance !

For exemple : Austrian in Madrid with 1 corps and one leader. Garison in Barcelona
Jan : Peace with spain. And no possibility back to home via France and by ship !
Fev = The leader return as reinforcement
May = Return garison as reinforcement (+ xI or + xM in the pool)
June = Corps return as reinforcement
...
5 months later because : Madrid --> Vienna = 17 / 4 round up

just an idea !

Are there any plans to fine tune the repatriation process so that this problem is avoided?

Not for the first patch Trin, but further refinements to help prevent the “island” effect during repatriations are definitely in order. In the interim: choose your conditions wisely.

I hope so.  I just had Napoleon and 10 Corps moved to Copenhagen in winter because of this...and I know I had controlled minors closer than Copenhagen.

the way the game does it, is how the boardgame was like as well, but in options, you do have 12.4 peace treaty limited access, which gives you 6 months to move your corps, feets and removing depots and 3 months only to remove garrisons from that other countries territory, after those 6 months, the rest is sorted as game does now.

But remember this is a boarggame option, its not in the game yet :)
