I played countless hours of WiF in what seems like another lifetime now, WiF 5th and WiFFe most "recently."

But, it's been so long that I no longer remember what the "standard" CRTs were in each, or why some prefer one over the other.

(I seem to remember a classic D6 table, but can't remember what edition that was from, or whether I preferred a D10 version...don't think I ever played with a 2D10 version, but can't be sure!)

So...what are the pros/cons and preferences for the various CRTs.

Is D6 even an option anymore (was it ever)?

MWiF is based on WiFFE version 7.0 so...

1. Introduction
World in Flames (“WiF”) is Australian Design Group’s strategic
level game of the Second World War. Up to six players will manage
the economies and conduct the military operations of the major nations

the USSR and the USA).
We intend this edition of the game to be the fi nal edition. It comes as
one of fi ve products:
• World in Flames Rules Set;
• World in Flames Classic game;
• World in Flames Starter Kit;
• World in Flames Deluxe game; and
• World in Flames Super Deluxe game set.
The World in Flames Rules Set consists of:
• this rule book (incl. 2 x A4 builds charts);
• WiF Scenario book;
• 1 production circle; and
• 1 x A3 (420 x 294mm) full-colour game chart.
The World in Flames Classic game consists of:
• The World in Flames Rule Set;
• 1 additional A3 full-colour game chart;
• 4 large (574 x 820mm) full-colour maps covering most of the
world (West Europe & Africa, East Europe & the middle east,

WiF:FE presently has 2 land CRTs - the 1d10 and the 2d10.

I can't really say anything about the 1d10 CRT having never used it; use of the 2d10 chart is pretty widespread and I certainly think it is great (although my group is playing with a modified 2d10 chart that I think is even better). A d6 chart must be the ghost of WiF past...

The D6 is not longe an option.

Wether the D10 or 2D10 table is better is up to personal choice.
Some of the differences in the the 2D10 table;
- greater attacker losses, particularly at the popular 4-1 and 5-1 odds levels
- more attacker disorganized results
- half disorganization for some results instead of an all or nothing situation
- more variablilty of results
- less predictability of results
- better simulation of armour effects in open terrain
- attacks against cities likely to be bloodier
- attacks in winter weather likely to be bloodier

These are the major differences that come to mind, all which I beleive are favourable.
However, the most significant impact of the 2D10 table amoung the group that I play with is that the USSR is much less likely to collapse when the 2D10 table is used because the German player either has to insure higher odds attacks to minimize his losses/disruptions or accept higher losses and continue to push the Soviets Eastward.

I would be pretty surprised if any WiF group went from using the 2d10 back to a 1d10 but probably someone has. I doubt I ever will.

One of my opponents has a sealed copy of 4th Edition. I kind of wish he would be up for opening it and playing a game of it for fun, but he never will. My 5th Edition stuff is a mess with the counters all mixed into a big ball of counters and poster putty which we used to use to play WiF on a wall. But it used to be a big deal when you rolled a '6' attacking Gibraltar.

I think it still is a big deal when you roll a '6' attacking Gibraltar. Just not the way you want.
