I'd change this distinction to run between fast and slow main line units. Armour is different- but the main distinction I make is between fast and slow units. So then, let's call the categories: Leg Infantry (the guys who walk) Motorized Infantry (the guys who ride) Airmobile Infantry (the guys who fly) So far as I am concerned, I think the other categories can stand for now. Unless anyone else has any thoughts. quote:
It'd probably be more realistic to make a single thread on employing unit types in general. The various categories, or types, of units available in TOAW vary in the methods of employment. Therefore, as per my original suggestion, make separate threads for each in order to remain type-specific. quote:
As Ben's post suggests, the catagories tend to overlap. Assuming the threads see much use at all, they'll tend to get confused, with conversations on one thread winding up discussing matters really more appropriate to another. Then it would be up to the individual posting to keep the topic specific to the thread, and not go off on wild tangents (Defending a River Line - Case In Point). Or for a moderator to keep them on topic. quote:
...Also, I can't see much point in making the threads sticky. If they actually get much play, they'll stay at near the top of their own accord, and if they don't, then we'd have the top of the column cluttered up with a bunch of threads no one is interested in. There is only so much that can be said about employment of units within the finite confines of the game engine, I will grant you that. But, I know that I have spent countless hours searching for information on specific unit employment methods within these forums, and often times, I end up reading about useless information beyond the scope of this game. (Fortifying Frozen Lakes - Case In Point). I also appreciate that eventually the stickies may get no more new posts, but that is, in my opinion, because all that can be said about a unit-type has been said. Just because a stickie doesn't receive new posts doesn't mean that there is no longer any interest in it. If it continually receives new hits, then there is obviously interest in reading what it has to say. I come to the War Room to find out how to employ unit x in situation y, and I am sure that newer players would also appreciate the convenience of stickies on unit employment as well. Who knows, perhaps old-timers would appreciate it too, as a kind of refresher on how to employ their units to their maximum potential, as well. Having said all that, I guess it would be up to the remainder of the forum users to decide what's best in this regard. I am just throwing my opinion into the ring. Thank you for your consideration.
