@rowdied,

Are you trying to unzip a .pt2 file? please do not.

kind regards,
vic

I found some time ago that pt files where in fact "hidden" zipped txt files (some softwares find the zip signature and open the file with Winzip). It's password protected so you can't unzip them, but I'd be curious to see their innards

3rd turn of Barbarossa played. German troops continue the attrition war. This turn the desired 50000 are not reached, Russians worth 47660 production are eliminated. German troops worth 1300 production points also die.

Freeboys bombing campaign is not unsuccessful. But the blood toll is high also. The round before he killed iirc 12 german fighters and lost 10, this turn he lost 23 fighters and 2 level bombers, i lost 24 fighters.
Since he bombed down paris and düsseldorf to 0 production it is still a minor victory for him and more importantly it ties up resources which would help to speed up the attrition war in russia.

Japan meanwhile prepares for pearl harbour. Currently the plan is to do pearl harbor in 2 turns. Attached a screen showing the eastern front at the end of my turn. This is probably the slowest barbarossa ever but it doesn't matter since i take virtually no losses while the russians lost each turn so far stuff worth ~2 month of production.

Hm the japanese are really weak . I have been bombing China since Barbarossa and this turn chinese fighters showed up and gained air superiority lol.

Japan is really simply embarrassing. I think i crippled them already with lots of faults. On the other hand, more land for germany to conquer then ;).

Here is the china front. Japan has so huge supply problems that i can't even build engineers to rebuild the blown up bridges currently. Guess i'll follow my tradition of hating to have to play japan. Hated them in Hoi, Hoi2, Gary Grigsby's WAW, even in Victoria and Eu2/3. I just suck with sea powers

I downloaded the zip and it asks for a password to extract the file. I've downloaded other scenarios and the beta patch and it opened with winrar no problem. It has also shown the pt file before when I extracted other scenarios, so I'm at a loss as to why it's behaving this way.

It's not a .zip file, you don't have to extract anything. Just download it into your scenario directory, start AT and load the scensario. No extracting.

Me again, I just noticed that it is the pt2 file and not a winzip like the others. It's weird how it shows it automatically as a winrar file and not as the standard pt2 file. I did try to open it to drag the file to the desktop, but couldn't guess the password, sorry Vic. I'll try it again, thanks.

edit: I just noticed that thanks Barthheart, in the process of loading it up now
edit2: I had to rename the file to pt2 as my computer decided it was a zip file and aptly named it, but all is well now...

I have played several players of different skill levels and find player skill the deciding factor, BUT the new games in vs 27 have no yet really gotten going.. I will introduce a ca reduced power mod to illiminate the silliness of naval units unafraid of air.

My navel unit isn't afraid of air, but it just doesn't get much. You see...it always seems to be loaded up with lint...

Sent you the next turn and decided to start an AAR.

I will from now on post the progressing of my match with Freeboy in the AAR subforum. Sorry for "spamming" this thread, but initially i did not plan to make a full AAR out of our match. Feel free to read the AAR and post your comments there Freeboy :)

Just tried v27 playing Ge vs AI : on turn 1 I can invade Poland, but find no way to invade Denmark. On turn 2 W.Allies declare war but I still can't invade any of their countries
Did I miss stg or is that a bug ?

My hats off to Tom...This one is a beauty.
Until just recently I hadn't really given WAW a good look. I am very impressed.
There really is no other PC game out there that covers the Entire War the way this one does...At least not any that has this much depth and strategy involved...This baby has the whole package.

I think I've died and gone to wargamers heaven!

Only France and Britain declare war, you really don't want to invade the western allies until April when you get the blitz card. With it the west is hamstrung in readiness and you get Oslo and Eben Emal with paratroops and Denmark with an Infantry unit.

To declare war there is a sub screen you go to, humm can not think which it is right now.

Denmark and Norway fall if you play the "Western Blitz" card that yuo get in April 1940 - you get an additional infantry corps and 2 small airborne corps, and capture Eban Emal, Oslo and all of Denmark automatically, plus the W-allies take a massive readiness hit making the trip to Paris that much quicker and easier.

Otherwise declarations of war occur on the Strategic Map IIRC...but generally in this game you don't want to be doing that 'cos hte programmed events (via cards) give you useful bonuses.

Ok thanks, didn't think to declare war as I'm used to games where everyone is at war already !

But regarding Blitz, what's done is a little too much "channeling" the player IMHO. There was no special "blitz" effect because it occured in April'40, it came when the Germans decided to attack, why not giving it at start (but not the reinforcements that should keep their schedules) ?
Also I don't like the "auto-invade" feature, we're playing a wargame, sheesh ! No big deal though, and this is still the best and more intricate AT scenario now, hat off to TWeber

Thanks for the complement.

I certainly am not a fan of channel players.  The thought behind the forced delay is that the inactivity on the front lead to the lack of readiness on the side of the West.  You could re-write event 5 like this to get the card at the start of the game:

Check round = 1
exec giveactioncard(0,0)
end.ch

This is much simplier than the current event because you are not checking whether the Allied Minors were attacked of the Maginot hexes were occupied.  The only wrinkle is you would then have to code when the AI would play the card.  But, this is not a problem if you do not let the AI play the German side.

Thanks tweber for the instructions.
Historically I disagree with your reasoning : France was even LESS prepared to war by end of '39 in fact. Things were delayed to April because the Germans had their hands full before and took time to mount their offensive. So the card should be in had at start, then maybe "deprecated" by end of Fall'40 to avoid Germany attacking the West with Blitz in 42 or 43 !

@gingerbread,

Which version of AT do you have? 1.10k? or 1.10L?
if you have v.1.10L and you have a savefile from which this is repeatable please email it to vic@xs4all.nl.

kind regards,
Vic

OK, I'm considering starting a WAW game. Which is the latest version? I have v27a, is this the one I should be playing? Is the Japan bug fixed? It seems a lot of time and effort to invest if I get half way through and it's bugged. Shall I hold on a little and play the second civil war scenario instead?
