Although the rules you suggest favor me rather than you , I have to ask , what happened to the Marky who though house rules were for sissies?

It's good to see you back Marky. The forum was dull without you. I don't think we should destroy your computer as has been suggested, why take it out on a poor defenseless machine?

My take on "Marky's rules".

Most of the rules I can live with , but I object to the No sub Invasions. They not only were not "gamey", they were history! Carlson's raiders? The Mankin Island Raid? If you don't want a sub raid , then garrison the island.

Secondly I feel that if someone wants to sacrifice a para platoon to be a speed bump against a on rushing army, while it should be considered stupid, it should not be illegal.

I will have no B-17s, so don't care. That doesn't cover B-24's or LB-30's any way.

I have no PT boats. So I don't care.

My asw bites. But If I want a 12 DD surface warfare group, I intend to have one. Evere hear of the "Tokyo Express"? I promise you , if you play against me, you will. Just remmeber the name R. Tanaka!

I always play a gentleman's game. What ever the heck that means.

And lastly , despite 23 years in the USN/USNR I was never an "old man of the sea". Old man of the air will work. Old man above the sea will work. But in all that time (despite being almost always on "sea duty") I spent exactly one weekend being assigned to a ship. I was TAD to a frigate. (USS Constitution).

"Secondly I feel that if someone wants to sacrifice a para platoon to be a speed bump against a on rushing army, while it should be considered stupid, it should not be illegal."

Disagree here... the problem with the way it works in the game is that single platoon of paratroops will prevent a full corps from retreating, forcing them to surrender instead of retreating across the hex where the platoon has been dropped. This is why most people have come up with this house rule.

So there is an actual game bug here? Thanks , I hadn't encountered or heard of this one.

OK Marky , you can have this one.

Are any of the other rules that have been proposed game "bug" problems? Those I have no objection to. But not permitting a tactic because either someone doesn't like it or is not historically accurate are rules that I object to.

By the way , I have no objection to anyone jumping in here with comments and suggestions , as a matter of fact I encourage and appreciate them. I'm a neophyte and I gather Marky's not much more experinced , so help is appreciated. Besides this being a "Grudge-match", I'd like this to be a learning match as well.

(Insert WITP trash talk slamming Marky here!)

Thanks.

So you agree Makin Island is a good historical precedent and to throw that rule out?

And is there a limitation on DD groups other than ASW? If I want to  run a fast transport or surface warfare with a larger number , I may?

Sorry , no. If your going to play guadacanal , and want to ban one of the major features of the battle (the "Tokyo Express" ), because it is inconvienant , and not a game bug or glitch, I'm not for it. Maybe you should try Monopoly or something. Unless you can convince me there's a bug , this is one rule I won't budge on.

If you insist that I play the INJ, and you insist that we play by your house rules, I feel that I should not be exculded from using the one advantage that Japan had because your afraid of my generally pathetic ASW of sinking one of your boats.

Either convince me I'm wrong , or call me when you are serious.

Tokyo Express don't leave Rabaul without it.
BTW if the game is as good as the build up to the game.... it should be a good read.

So what's it going to be USN or IJN? Marky , if your emails are going to be understood, they have to be in English, or even Japanese (or some language I can get translated). I don't speak leet, or Marky speak , or jabberwocky. If we are going to do a game, I have to be able to understand you at least part of the time. If our non-english speaking forum members make the effort (and I'm always impressed with how well they do, generally their English is better than mine) then is it too much effort for you? How about showing them (and me ) the same courtesey?

It doesn't matter , I'll play either. If it's ready , send it. I've been having excellent luck with my AW1Steve at Yahoo.com address (that's the one Bobo and I have been using).
