Hi,

I used to play the old CAW like a maniac so playing the new one is as nostalgic as it is fun. One thing I miss in the new version though is the stats for ships and planes (vulnerability, power, light and heave AA etc). In the old version of the game those data were accessible from within the game - where are they in the new version? I know that you can acces these data from the editor but I wanna check and compare ship and plane data while playing - not having to quit and open the editor!

I believe most of this info is available in the Ship Classes portion of the CaW editor.

As far as I know, you are the first person to ask for this data to be available in the game. We just felt it was the sort of underlying data that belonged in the Editor for those who really wanted to know, but would only clutter up the main game interface.

Am I? Well there you go. Though that fact makes missing those kind of in game data seem odd I wonder how many wargamers out there that would be satisfied playing around with counters representing infantry and armor corps but no indication (in the form of stats) of said units strengths! To conclude: I find it very odd that I should be the only one wanting stats to be accessible when you inspect ships and planes in the game.

The difference is that in a land-based wargame, each counter represents a discrete unit of attack and maneuver and the essence of the game is to move these discrete units to achieve victory.

In Carriers at War, an individual plane is only a very small part of the overall picture. Movement orders are given to Task Groups and attack orders, (usually), to several squadrons at once. There are no odds as such and nothing you can do to improve the performance of a plane in its combats. You just have to send them and see what happens, which is part of the glorious uncertainty of the game.

I agree with Booty Joe. I too have played the original for many years (all the way back to Commodore64) I found the stats useful for both ships and planes when playing the game. It was simply a button to change from description to stats so did not clutter the interface at all.

Although it was only information it was handy to know firepower, manuverabity etc for planes, things such as radar range and even number of AA for ships and bases.
