ok, I read a post here about someone having a similar situation like mine and I believe it was a ram problem but.......

I created a mini league and went to test it out. Both teams used generic wishbone playbooks. Played defense first no problem. During punt, kicking teams gunners (three of them) piled up one on top of another(one body, 3 heads lots n lots of arms, legs) but play continued and played out correctly. Went on offense.
team lined up correctly. During offnsive line calls, the guards decided to mosey on over and get in tight with the C. Then the tackles, followed by everyone else.
So I had a Center with the qb behind him and a rb behind the qb and every one else in the same spot in front of qb.

Specs:
win xp pro sp2 (5.1 build 2600)
amd athlon 64 3400+
2048 mb ram
directx 9.0c
GeForce 8500 GT 512mb

Shouldn'tbe a lack of power, should it?

this is a pretty vanilla setup without a lot of extra baggage.I bought a new HD and installed a fresh copy of winxp in december just so I could run Forge of Freedom.

Thank you for reposting this over here.

Your system should not be a problem unless you have really old drivers.

Is this a play you designed or is it stock?

Which playbook was it from?

Have you tried to use that play again?

Hi.

I get an occasional report of this happening but it's never been anything I can reproduce here. My best guess is that at some point the play files are corrupted. Either during installation, or opening, or some other event has messed up the data on disk.

Try opening the problem play in the PDS, check that it looks okay, and resave it. If it doesn't look okay then you may need to reinstall the game to correct the plays.

thanks
David

Ok . used 2 of my made up league teams in quick play. Both use stock wishbone offenses. Same problem. although when I had to choose a play out of the 5 plays to choose from 3 boxes had "no preview" in them the other 2 were pass plays.
This time 1st play, they did the same thing as previously ,but time ran out. 2nd play worked like it should. Third play I repeated the 2nd play.the players again did the same thing. all bunched upin one spot. At least this time I actually made it thru one play..lol

but why would the play files become corrupt on the 1st try? I would think that If I changed plays, mixed n matched playbooks, deleted, moved plays etc etc is when I should expect a corrupted database, not in a brand new install.

Open the max utility
MFB-Util.exe
then load the playbook you are using, click on the first play listed and then scroll down with the down arrow. If you see any plays that have no picture to the right, delete it. It could be that there are some bad plays in there. I have seen plays listed in the playbook, but the play isnt actually in the plays folder. It may have been deleted prior to the update going out.

Hope it helps, its something to look at anyway.

ok thanks... will try deleting those types

I thought that maybe there was a problem with my league so I tried the stock "cfl" league, Hamilton vs Vancouver.
Same problem but I nearly got thru 1/2 a quarter. Noticed lots of "no preview" plays for hamilton.

edit: heh heh... well that was interesting. went to start deleting from college wishbone playbook. Found a play with no diagram.Went to delete it and got a run time error 53 "file not found"

Your best bet is going to be uninstalling and reinstalling the game.

sorry.. I don't remember.. did you update to version 2.0 from a 1.n verison? or did you purchase 2.0 directly and update to version 2.1?

If you upgraded from verison 1.n if the play files didn't upgrade properly...

If you're seeing that many plays with missing thumbnails and no data I have to suspect that something happened during the installation.

Ahh okay... the first thing I would recommend is to update to version 2.1.

You can do that by visting the members area, registering your game, and then from the "My Games" menu, you should have access to the 2.1 update.

thanks
David

reinstalled fresh copy from DR. Found 2.18 update.  installed . looks like it took but when the splash screen goes up it still has version 2.0

Same problems persist. All problems from players converging to run time error when working in the mfb-util.

Sigh!

The top left of the title screen (with the spinning ball) should say 2.1.8. If it doesn't then the update didn't install.

To take a screen capture, just press F12.. the game will put a file into the game's ScreenShots folder.

The only time I have seen this is when the play being referenced did not a valid file.

For example, in my case, I downloaded a playbook that used a modified kickoff play.  The play was set in the playbook but the actual play file was not on the disk.  So when the game used the playbook (.pbk file) to get the play (.ply file) it could not find the play file.  If fixed it by taking that play out of the playbook.

Another idea would be to go into the PDS, open the play in question, if it looks ok save it with a slightly different name and add that to the playbook and remove the offending one.

Not saying that this is your problem, just what I have had to do in the past in similar situations.

but this is from stock playbooks. Downloaded twice from DR. One time it might have become corrupted but twice? When I tried to delete those plays I get a run time error(53) and kicked out to desktop. But i'll try the pds thing next.

Well.. at this point I'm at a bit of a loss to know what's happening.

Tonight I'll PM you with the location of a zip file containing my play files. Maybe that will solve the problem...

These are the sorts of things I was talking about in another post... it drives me mad when things like this happen. This should be "just working" like everyone elses is.

Out of curiosity.. what folder did you install the game into?

thanks
David

I have also seen something similar to this with plays that did not have a valid formation.
