Hi Gang,

Just stopped by from the John Tiller Campaign Series forum. ;) My friend and I have been playing JTCS and apparently he is tired of getting his tanks burned, so he wants to watch his ships sink now. We are looking for a good Naval Wargame on the computer that we can play by e-mail. The Matrix Games website shows this game is turn based, but other things I am reading indicate that it is a real time game. I was hoping that one of you here could help me figure that out.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a turn based (and hence PBeM available) naval game? My victim, er, I mean opponent just read about the battle of Midway and wants to fight some Naval action.

Thanks,
Duncan

CaW is (pausable) real time; you can also control the speed of events as they unfold, but it is certainly not turn-based.

A good turn-based naval game for PBEM is Uncommon Valor. The file sizes are around 300 KB and are easily sent, even w/dial-up.

Thanks for the reply. I will check out Uncommon Valor. Pity CaW is not turn based, it looks really cool.

Thanks,
Duncan

While Carriers at War is certainly not turn based - it does have full multiplayer support and games are almost instantaneous by PBEM standards. Most scenarios would be all over in 30 minutes, so so long as you can both be online at the same time then its worth serious consideration.
