While Oz is on a defensive stance it should, at least in most cases, provide enough supply for its defense.

However if you plan to stage an offensive out of the theater it definitely doesn't have enough supply. Bombers eat up a lot and your infantry will need a good bit as well. For offensive ops I'd estimate you need to ship in roughly 200-300K of supply per month.

At least.....to support a SWPAC offensive after 44 you need to be increasing that by 50%

If using any B29's in SWPAC double it - minimum

And don't forget HUGE amounts of fuel. You will not believe how much TF 58 can suck up in 1944.

Yeah, I can believe it, based on how much fuel KB sucks up in 1941. Of course that problem tends to correct itself as the war progresses...unfortunately.

I'd ship OIL - it's much more economical

Taking CHS ship capacities as an example:
1x large TK and 2x large AK will put 12000 fuel and 12000 supply in Oz for the cost for the fuel for 3 ships
BUT
1x large TK of OIL will, when consumed by Oz heavy industry give you up to 12000 fuel AND 12000 supplies, for the cost of fuel for 1 ship.
OK so it might take a week to produce and some oil will be lost in moving between bases but it's so obvious. It also takes less escorts and the AKs could then be used to ship SWPAC units from the West Coast.
Simple isn't it

Shipping oil if fine for 1942 and can be useful for the whole game. But, when we talk about supply needs for extensive ofensive operations, the amount of HI in australia is just not enough. In the middle of 1943 I had 1,000,000 supply and 1,000,000 fuel on the way to Australia every day. There just isn't eoungh HI to produce what you need. And by then you have enough large APs to ship units from the West coast - you need the AKs for supply movement.

You get tons of ships...ship tons of supplies.  By late 42 you should be able to ship several hundred thousand supply points and a million plus fuel in no time.  Bury Oz in supplies

Ok this has to do with Australia also...

I got the B-17C squadron and group out of The PI and they are in Australia. One has 1 B-17C one has 11. The Squadron has 1 B-17C and I have 19 B-17Es in the pool. So I move it to Syndy and there are 20,000 supplies there and it wont let me upgrade them to B-17Es... Why?

What is the max size of the squadron?

Edit: just reread your post.

I periodically experience a bug whereby a certain squadron at a certain base will not upgrade, even though conditions are right to allow it. I'm talking the theater HQ (which the base reports to) is a few hexes away with >30,000 supplies - well inside the plane's range, etc. etc. Even sometimes when other squadrons at the base can upgrade just fine.

It comes and goes - a few turns later it will be fine, then not again.

Same thing with regards to a certain squadron at a certain base taking replacement aircraft. Move it out, then move it back and the problems go away. Weird, but it's been around for several versions.

What is the normal size of the squadron 12 or 16 or 24 a/c?

You must have enough a/c in the pool to fill the squadron up to max. So if it is a 24 plane squadron then it won't upgrade, 12 or 16 it should.

I've had this problem too - whats really anoying is I had three squadrons at one base, all assigned to the same HQ and flying the same aircraft. Two of them accepted replacement aircraft, the other would not.

Precisely!

It's clear that the game still has various memory leaks (and maybe other kinds). It seems that sometimes corruptions even make it into the save file (which really stinks). What exactly triggers them and where the critters live in the program - heaven only knows.

At one point I think Joe cited the fact that it has about 2 million lines of code. For those of us who take their shoes off to count above 10, the number 2 million looks like

2000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

I have this exact problem myself. I have a CV sitting in Sydney with over 20k supplies, and I can't upgrade the Buffalo's to Wildcats.

I keep getting the "not enough supply and HQ is too far away" message.

The two B-17 units in USAFFE are a squadron (16 planes) and a group (48 planes).  The former should upgrade, but the latter wouldn't because the pool isn't big enough.
