Are Paper Wargames killing Computer Wargames?

No, what's helped kill wargames are game mags (rags) and game sites.  According to all of the major game web review sites and game mags there are no such thing as Wargames, there are only Strategy games!!!   Game sellers (gogame, EBgames, gamestop, etc.) don't even have a category called Wargames.

How can you have Wargames when the rest of the industry doesn't even acknowledge your existence.

Now repeat after me, there are no such things as wargames! there are such things as wargames!
War is bad after all

Yeah that's something big that happened with computers ain't it? See a lot of that childishness on every forum yah go to. Something that definitely wouldn't happen with a paper game face to face. Oh there's some arguing, but, I never heard any name calling or bullyboying. You'd get stomped where I come from if yah did that face to face. ;)

It looks like you guys are confusing forum trolls, sock puppets, and other forum dwellers with PC PBEM/TCIP gaming. Although I did meet one real crybaby jerk who just quit (and never responded to me-even though he was around) a large game because he was loosing, I never had heard of anyone arguing or calling names during a PC game, or any other game type. Even with my one bad opponent, there was no arguing.

If you have had incidents of name calling with an on line opponent, please tell us about it.

Do you even think computer wargames are a direct competitor to paper wargames?

Another example of "build something good and they will continue to come":

GMT's new Combat Commander expansion "Stalingrad" reached its P500 "within a week".

I don't think paper wargames can kill computer wargames. I actually think the price of games will kill both, but I hope both continue. I bought my first wargame in 1981 SPI's PanzerArmeeAfrika I paid $15.00. I love my collection of board games but I won't set them out til my daughter is older she is 4. I play computer wargames so I don't have to worry about losing counters. I must say it has been awhile since I bought a papergame 2003  I bought Midway SOPAC and got Eastern Fleet free. I just hope both types keep being made.

BTW Jeffrey - Russian Campaign is still one of my favorite AH games...haven't playe it in years. Remember when I bought it... one of the first games I bought. Would love to play it with you one day... maybe Vassal can put together a module. Not the same as actually being there... but hey...

You're in luck. vassalengine.org lists a module for TRC . Looks like it might be based on the latest edition from L2 Design.

At least part of the price increase is due to demand tolerance. In my case, I'm old enough now that I've made a decent living and I can afford to pay for just about anything I want when it comes to games. Not like when I was 12-14 years old and I had to pick Lemons to get up enough $$$ for a $12 boxed game.
