If you want to play for example a ladder game from a historical scenario and it doesn't seem balanced, then just play each side once against each other and the best performer wins. If you're just one turn quicker to win the game as your opponent when he or she was playing the same side, you win. That way you can play those very nice scenarios we have already in the house like Fall Grun, or the invasion of the Netherlands as a ladder game, or just for fun too of course. Especially the scenario Fall Grun is excellent: it's really a very good operational level wargame, very well modelled too. AT at its best! You can download it for free in the scenario bank at the AT website.

I also like to play the scenarios mirrored in the ladder, but also non ladder games,
actually russia 1941 always as russian and german.
And i like to play both very much.
For ladder games this is just fair in case the scenario is not 100% balanced.

You could also bid VP's, (or some other advantage) to the side which is not preferred. Lowest bid gets the job.
