...why is there a button labeled 'Execute Prisoners' in the graphics folder? :p

And why is there an Austrian leader potrait, sans head? :p

/idly browsing the folder to see if any of them suggested a way to do transparency for non-rectangular counters

Not sure about the portrait, but per the old screen shots there was an option to execute prisoners in the prisoners held screen... I believe where the option to free them is now. Clearly this option did not make it into the release version.

best,

I would not be entirely surprised if 'execution of prisoners' was historically appropriate when one or both sides consisted of guerillas or forces from the Caucasian or North African minors.  The whole Ottoman/Egyptian brouhaha seems to have been fairly messy, for instance.

Correct and other locations as well. Basically any one who can not ask for "Honors of War", if that option makes it in. Napoleon himself slew quite a few Turkish prisoners near Acre, I believe. Perhaps this could be an option with a risk of PP loss.
