The game allows me to order the British fleet to patrol in the Baltic from their North Sea bases, but they just move to the North Sea and stay there. Is movement to the Baltic restricted in some undocumented way?

Also, is Wilhelmshaven considered to be a North Sea or Baltic port? It does not show up on the list of landing sites for North Sea amphib movement......

a) British ships cannot enter the Baltic exept for Uboats.
b) You cannot amphib an enemy port if there are fleet vessels in it. So taking a fleet base by sea is not possible.

Good rules, I think. At least the second one. That means that Alexandria is safe as well.

I wonder if the Russians can rebase something to Petrograd to protect it as well?

I think you could amphib Wilhelmshaven or Alexandria if you destroy the enemy fleet before (during one game I lost almost the entire Entente fleet. The Central powers even sent a corps to India!!). If you have conqered that part of Germany by land, you will already be winning the game anyway.

And I think British ships are restricted from the Baltic as long as the Germans have control about Wilhelmshaven.

Possibly in an earlier version - you certainly should not be able to now.

What about opposed amphib assaults in general?

For example, in my current game I loaded an english corps on an amphib in the Eastern Med and tried to land on a turkish port (Hi Dan ;-)). But only Scutari, the Serbian port was available.

Constantinople should be out due to fleet based in it or maybe because Gallippoli was still turkish (does this matter?)

Is it possible to have amphib operations in the Eastern Med?

Cheers,
Hanno

To amphib an enemy port the corps has to be activated. I guess that is what is missing. If it is not activated only friendly ports will show up.

I think he has you there, Hanno. On the other hand, if what was written above is correct, then all the Turks need do is station one DD at each port, and they are forever safe from invasion. Someone should perhaps rethink that......

I think you need at least one cruiser. And Constantinople is the only fleet base.

You can't amphib Constantinople from the med unless you control Gallipoli.  Smyrna is also an option as a target with some food nearby to be seized.

Did you try to do this on T1?

If so then Turkey is still neutral, so shame on you!! :)

You can't amphib anyone unless you're at war with them!!  Sheesh!!

This is all great information. I just wonder why none of it is in the manual, or even the new revised manual. Same with the supply system. Complete mystery there.

Umm yeah the quality of the manual has been mentioned as sub-par multiple times. The support and community on the board is great though.

What's complicated?

Not well explained is fair comment - but I don't see them as being complicated.

I thought the straits around Denmark were to heavily mined for surface ships to pass through. After all the British were unable to run the Dardanelles to get to Constantinople.

The problem with the Straights of Denmark was that the Danes might get miffed at RN ops in the Baltic and mine it closed behind them, plus Germany certainly would - and the Brits had no bases close by from which to conduct mine-sweeping.

Indeed, getting into the Straits into the Baltic required some control over them. I do not imagine it would've happened on a large scale, similar to entering the Black Sea.. or through Gibraltar. I imagine the Kaiser would've invaded Denmark if it had happened in WW1, as vital as the Baltic was the Germans did it in WW2 and then onto Norway to secure the resources there

Any idea how those cruisers got into the Baltic? Only subs are supposed to be able to get there and I ran a few tests and wasn't able to get cruisers to enter.

Okay, I see the Rebase mission allowed non-national ports. So your opponent rebased them to Petrograd and then used from there.

The AI rebased to naval units to a port not belonging to the same country?

I would assume, since I have had British capital ships in the Baltic as a CP player on a solitaire game. I wish I had saved that game for you -- I had yet to play as the TE and assumed incorrectly that there was some risk to TE ships attempting to transit the Danish Straits.
I've not been able to play a solitaire game lately to playtest for you, but if I get a chance I'll surely save it for you.
