(Please note: this topic is not meant to be criticism, just a comment...:))

One thing I am noticing while playing MC-W is the LVT1 Alligators seem to be paper thin. Almost any hit from a Jap MG or often rifles seems to immobilise or destroy them.

My understanding is they were designed to get Marines onto beaches in armored safety... well, they aren't doing it in my campaign:(. The corpses of deal Alligator gunners and drivers are littering the beaches of Guadalcanal...

Were they really that vulnerable?

Mao, unfortunately for the Marines at Guadalcanal and Tarawa the armor on the LVT 1's was paper thin! From Osprey Vanguard
#45 (pg14) "On land the LVT(A)1 was like a beached whale, and its thin armour offered no protection against heavy machine gun fire or anti-tank guns." At Guadalcanal the LVT's were used mainly as logistics carriers. It wasn't until Tarawa that they were
used mainly in the assault role (mainly to cross the coral reefs). In many cases amtrac crews suffered a high caualty rate. Hope this helps. If you have other questions or need book info on amtracs let me know.

Hi guys.

last summer I read 'Accross the Reef' by Crozier. The book details the development of Amtracks and their service in WW2 (and beyond). It seems that the armour on the LVT 1 was so thin that there were often field modifications to improve the armour e.g. welding on half inch thick boiler plate! This would be difficult to reflect in the game unless you assumed all were modified!

Another problem with Amtracks in SPWAW is that they seem to get stuck in the mud. My reading ibndicated that that was next to impossible, in fact htey were often used to recover DUKW's from the mud!

I am replying from work but can get you the details of the book if you are interested. :)
