Can someone tell me exactly what mech.exe is/does?
I hear it mentioned here and there on these boards, but in searching the manual I only found one reference and it didn't really say anything useful, just told me how to set the combat.net path to it. I am assuming it is a game exe but should I use it instead of the spwaw.exe ?
Thanks for your patience ;)

The mech.exe is a way to start the game rather than using the SPWAW.exe icon. It is a workaround for the freeze ups that occured when attempting to start the game using spwaw.exe. It is in the Spwaw folder. I copied and pasted it to my quick launch bar-the mech.exe takes you straight to the menu.. Much faster.

the mech.exe is the game engine file - it uses the data in the OOB files.

spwaw.exe is a "stub" file that launches teh intro movie, then the game itself (mech.exe)

Other than bypassing the credits and movie, is there any reason I can't just link to mech.exe instead of SPWAW.exe? I only play the game, and infrequently look at the manual, which I know how to find, anyway.

V-man, I went ahead and redirected my shortcut to point to the mech.exe. Works fine.
