It's September 2012 in my Marlins Dynasty association and I am curious about something. I have a star shortstop in AAA, Phillipe Gonzags, that is evolving into an amazing player. Don't ask me why, but Hanley Ramirez has gone flat, and now this other rookie is looking very promising. Regardless of which position he will eventually play, I am convinced this kid is coming up next year- period.

However, now that we have the expanded rosters, I want to give Gonzags some playing time but I don't want to play him SO MUCH that he will not be considered a rookie when he comes up full-time next year. So what's my limit? How many innings or ABs can he have this time up which will not affect his classification as a "rookie" the following year?

Also note, I am seeking these numbers as Puresim sees things, whether or not that matches ACTUAL life.

Once upon a time it was 100 AB in a season OR a certain number of days on the major league roster for a max. limit. I'm not sure what the parameters are now.

BTW, I'm wondering if your PC crashed when you put the words "Marlins" and "Dynasty" in the same sentence (and right next to each other, as well!).

I'm just a dejected Braves fan still wondering how the Marlins got two World Series championships and the Braves only one. Did you watch these two teams try to give each other the game tonight? I saw only from the top of the 9th until the end of the game, so my opinion is based on that narrow window.

The Rookie of the Year Award has a chaotic history. Arising from a Chicago BBWAA chapter award begun in 1940, it went national in 1947, officially named the J. Louis Comiskey Memorial Award after the former White Sox executive who was the son of Hall of Famer Charles Comiskey. The first winner was Jackie Robinson; during the fortieth-anniversary celebration of his career in 1987, the award was renamed the Jackie Robinson Award. It has been presented to the top rookie in each league since 1949, after being given to only one player in both 1947 and 1948.

It took ten years before "rookie" was officially defined, and the definition would change twice; in 1989 it stands as a player who has not, in previous seasons, had 130 at-bats, 50 innings, or 45 days on a major league roster. The voting structure has also changed several times; it currently consists of two writers for each team voting for three players each with votes weighted 5-3-1

From MLB:

Determining rookie status:
A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has (a) exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the period of 25-player limit (excluding time in the military service and time on the disabled list).
