I use mine as little as possible. It's more cost effective that way

Nothing. It's still more cost effective not to print

I hate printers and printing more than anything related to computers. I think I would rather deal with a virus than printing problems.

Printing problems?

How can there be printing problems - you turn the device On and it prints...

Joking aside I know that many people buy non laser printers because they are cheap at start - but the downfall is that in exploitation they all cost much more than laser printers... the one and only printer one needs is laser printer...

Not true at all for photography. Professional photographers all use inkjets. Plus, most people like color and color lasers just aren't cost effective on supplies for an individual.

Plus, as Bruce said, it is always cheaper not to print it.

Ahh... sorry guys... if you wanted to home print photographs made with your digital cameras that's something completely different... IMHO that is 100% unreliable and always more expensive than printing at the photo studio... I don't reccomend that doing at home at all...

BTW, for simple home and small office usage simple black&white laser printers are best (plain text, documents, manuals, charts)!

But sometimes control is necessary to get the right effect and that is only available with your own printer.

For the average joe, you make a sound point, but the bottom line remains that people like color better and that is why they go with inkjets.

If I had to have a printer at home, it would be a b&w laser. In the case at my house, my wife and son had to have a color printer.

Hmm... here photo studios (who migrated to printing digital pictures) accept Flash memory sticks and/or CDs and/or DVDs with any photograph you want to print - you just simply edit the pictures at home using any photo program you have (and apply whatever effect you wish) and then go to photo studio...

Interesting.  My laptop just shut itself off for the 3rd or 4th time in the  last week or two.  I'm beginning to suspect the fan is not blowing properly and it's overheating.

OK, I'm not going crazy.

My buddy in the next cube has had his fan or fan controller replaced already.  Time to open a work request for our hardware team.  Sometimes being a part of "Corporate America" has it's advantages.

All Hail the Thread

I went to my dental appointment and got a clean bill of health. No further caps, no cavities, no molds taken and then I was told I just need to schedule regular cleanings here on out. This never happens to me. Truly the Thread is gracious.

I hate dentists. If it wasn't for my wife I would never go. No wonder married men live longer.

Is it a Dell? I had this problem with my Dell about a year before it just blew up, literally had sparks and flames shooting out the back.

If so blowing out the heat synch with compressed air is the first treatment and I recommend downloading some freeware that will manage your fan speed(s) for you. I put it on all my Dell's now.

OK chaps, I'd like some advice. I'm rebuilding my PC (well, pretty much building a new one apart from the HD and DVD drive...) seeing as i've had a month of not spending any cash . It needs to be fairly up to date so I won't have to buy any new bits in the near future. So far I'm thinking along the lines of the following parts plus a case, and probably Vista Premium (64 bit) :

AMD PhenomX4 9850

Gigabyte AM2 AMD 790X DDR2

MSI GeForce 8800GT

Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048

CoolerMaster 1000W REAL POWER PRO MODULAR PSU

I am more Intel Core CPU + Asus m/b + nVIDIA gfx card but your proposal is not bad at all... BTW, try making calculation with exchanging CPU for Intel Core and m/b for Asus...

This one's an IBM ThinkPad. I have a "guy" who will come and fix it for me.

I have no thoughts on the hardware other than leave room for video card upgrade.

I do have a thought about Vista. Why spend the cash? I would go with Ubuntu and use a virtual machine to run Win XP. Even given that I'm at worst MS neutral, I see Vista as too risky an investment right now. I'd wait to make sure they don't end up scrapping it.
