ORIGINAL: USS America I know you're confused. You can't help it. It comes from 20 years of non-shipboard USN service. And being a one wire, and a aviation primadona. Who's more confused , the guy who says sure I'll take whatever the USN gives him or sends him to, or the guy who figures out how to game the system? (My beer with drawal was never more than a couple of days. What was yours , 3 months?) Several points: 1. I was not a one wire! They are AE's. I was an AT, so I can chase 2 electrons at the same time! 2. I chose my orders to go to CV 66. I knew I wanted to be on a carrier. If I knew then what I know now about my ex-wife, I would have chosen more sea duty after that rotation instead of shore duty. 3. My longest beer with drawl was 87 days. That was during Desert Storm. After 45 days at sea without a port call, they have a "beer day" where everyone on board is allowed 2 beers. When I went up to the flight deck for my "rum ration" it turned out to be 2 cans of warm Heineken. I passed. 4. ALL HAIL THE THREAD!!! Err...Mike? Did you ever hear the Naval expression RTFQ? I wasn't calling you a one-wire, I said that I had been called one (By AE's and AT's-actually the AT's had a few other choice words in front, but this is a family quality thread). In case you forget , as a AW I can lose thousands of electrons at one time. (You must recall the old saying about the two most dangerous things in the Navy are an officer with a plan or a AW with a screwdriver?). Points 2 and 3 make me want to rush out and do it all over again (NOT!!!!!) And once again , mayI point out to you that I did have ship board service. I was TAD to a Frigate . USS Constition (for a whole 72 hours!)......As I said before, who was confused? The guy who gamed the system or the guy who though living on a hunk of metal for six months + at a time with 5,000 of his closest friends (Working 18 hous a day , seven days a week)?
