Good luck, Historiker!  Training for an Ironman triathlon is fun.  The big issue is having enough hours in the week to do it.  It takes up a lot of time when the runs and rides start getting longer and longer.  I've done 2 Half Ironman's and really wasn't able to train properly for either one.  Until my daily and weekly life schedules change quite a bit, I won't be able to consider a full Ironman.

Well, go figure, tonight she came over and we made brownies and watched Martin, a film that George A Romero probably leaves off his resume. All better.

hopefully they were special brownies

Ha, no, but while we were making them, I mentioned that she really knew a lot about making brownies, and she said, "what, haven't you ever made brownies before?"

"Well, sure, like once."

"Didn't you ever make them to put...other things in them?"

Oh. Oh, I see.

Because I'm happily married, and would like to keep it that way.

Fortunately i came home first yesterday and was able to open the latest package (DK Brown's Warrior to Dreadnought), and then dispose of the packaging material. Now it just looks like another text book to her.

I can understand why any woman would object to anyone buying a book. Would she rather you have a cocain addiction? Maybe you should waste it at a strip joint? If your girl friend complains about you expanding your mind, ask where she would rather you spend it on? I hope she's beautiful and talented , because she certain sounds like she's high maintainance.

In that particular case, I wish that I'd done it. Instead I tried to "do things right", and got insulted for my efforts! Next time I'll just say what I think and happily take a "vacation".

High maintenance is having the lot. One GF unit....one Pitbull....(also a girl), and one jelous black mare who sees the GF unit as the competition!

Please... No woman ever understood why a man would buy a book on military history. That's not just LogBoy's GFU...

She just called me and said she booked 10 days of work at an emergency animal hospital in September, so we're going to the Caribbean over Thanksgiving. I think I won't choose to spend 20 hours per week out running or riding my bike at this time.

I'm a very lucky man.

BTW, Steve, she can really drive that sucker, too!

Edit: Crap!

Obviously you guys need to shop around more. When I buy a book on Naval, military or aviation history , my spouse asks if I'd mind if she picked up a book on the US civil war , or perhaps on the Armarda! There are girl history majors too! (it makes it easy to swap out , and read each others too!).
