There are several screenshots and quite a bit of information about Birth of America II: Wars in America 1750-1815 in this thread.

Not without the discount for the upgrade (which they scrapped), in my case.

does not, to my mind, a new full price game make. Both ACW and Nappy have had (mid-price!) box releases in Europe a couple of months after initial release, so I might pick up the equivalent if there is one.

I have not grown tired of the original yet, and since I'm currently wrapped up in War between the States, I really do not see me investing in this one........

Looks more like an expansion than a new game..... I think I'll also wait.

I haven't got the 1st one, so I just might pick it up. I applaud them for somehow keeping the price to $49.99 US rather than jacking us with the poor exchange rate. Many overseas developers forget to remove the VAT, which kills us here in the US.

I also am perturbed that AGEod did not live up to its promise to discount this game for benefit of those who own the original.

Besides, they've already thrown together a patch for the friggin' thing. Even if I do buy it, it's gonna be awhile, because I am sick to death of starting, stopping, restarting, relearning, and repeating.

They really hosed me off when they revamped the entire AACW system of organizing divisions several months after publishing the game.

So, I'm gonna sit here and grumble and mumble for awhile. Becoming my favorite activity these days.

The reason is that it wasn't planed as BoA2 at first but as a smaller add-on.

The official statement regarding this can be found here:

There's already a patch to the patch.

Count me definitely out on this one for at least three months.

I think the discount for updating would be a huge disadvantage to them. Since they are selling BoA for $9.99-15.99 on numerous sites, that means I could run out, get the 1st game cheap, then pay the discounted "upgrade" cost. That way I would get 2 for 1 and basically rip them off. Because they discounted the 1st one so much, an upgrade discount is not very feasible.

Sorry, my friend, this line of argument does not hold water. The decision was made long ago to offer a discount to loyal customers, then another decision was made to expand the scope of the new version to the point where they had to make more money to recoup their investment, so the discount would not be offered.

Why, then, offer the old game at a bargain basement price? Are they more interested in getting customers who want "cheap" rather than keeping the ones who have believed in them, and bought their products, all along?

I want them to stay in business, but they need to re-establish their reputation with me. I am disappointed in them, and I was one of their most vocal supporters in the past.

I would like to be that again. Under the present circumstances, I cannot.

So you are saying that they give you more, but you still want to pay the originally slated expansion price? Basically, you don't feel the extra time they put in to be worth the money?

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

And to complain about too much patching... that is just silly talk. That amounts to complaining that the dev team is responsive to customer commentary and criticism, while being attentive and fixing whatever bugs might be discovered after release (and don't give me the old "they should release bug free" shtick, because it never can happen). Far better than the alternative, which is no patching.

That being said, as there is some overlap between 1 and 2, I can see why some won't make a repeat buy. But to not buy due to a change in plans and pricing or because the devs zealously support their released products, well, that I can't really understand, particularly if one liked the previous products.

Too much patching and customer support... I got to write that one down...

Hi all,

I will certainly not discuss AGEod policy in the MATRIX forum.

However, I'm afraid this kind of thread will make feel much more comfortable the companies that never patch their buggy games and those who seem to have a "Full Game = The Basic 80% finished Game + 2 full price expansions" business approach. No need to name these big companies which screw the gamers comunity, we all know them. We all have been screwed.

On the other hand:

  • AGEod is an indie developer which enjoys a good reputation for regularly patching its games, because we think a gamers should not wait to get his game working flawlessly.
  • AGEod supports its games and offers regularly FREE expansions. Such expansions propose new campaigns & scenarios but also new game features. Hence, all the new modules featured in WIA (including the wonderful and inovative REPLAY function) will be retrofitted for FREE in Napoleon's Campaigns and American Civil War and MATRIX customers will be able to benefit from it, because this is the way we treat our community.
  • AGEod always implements a non invasive, serial based, protection policy for its games. We trust our customers and they trust us.
  • AGEod always offers FREE demos, with manual, tuturial and several scenario in order for you to test drive the game and decide if we deserve your money.

We are proud of our trade.

Now, if you think we are screwing the wargaming community, if you think we are overcharging our customers, please come and discuss with us in our forum. We are open minded and ready to discuss with you (privately or not), simply not in another company forums (even if we are at home here).

We look forward talking with you, meanwhile enjoy your July 4th week-end!

Cheers,

Korrigan

NB: Make yourself your mind. The WIA demo should be available next week. :o)

Hi everyone,

Just a pre-emptive warning to keep things civil. We don't have a problem with constructive criticism of any games, but let's not cross the line to bashing anyone. I'd also suggest directing any feedback on BOA2 to Ageod on their forums, where it's more convenient for them to respond.

Regards,

- Erik

I took the plunge and bought it even though I don't that much about the area.  My first AGEOD game and I think I like what I see. The game should be a great place to start, learning their UI and game engine, i.e. there should be less micromanagement with leaders etc.

Amen!!! AGEOD has produced nothing but great gaming for my needs. Patches are frequent which means they have not forgotten us. I really don't care what price they charge, the hours I play a game like BoA, AACW, and Napoleons Campaigns, I more than get my monies worth. Go to the frigging movies for two hours with the wife and compare that! Can't watch the movie again, but I can play and play these games. Go out to eat, and I don't mean IHOP or Denny's and you can easily pay $40++. The next morning you can stare at your $40++ in the toilet.

I know that BoA2 will be excellent without even playing the demo. I have no doubt. To support a company that puts out great games, count me in.

I've done my share of software programming in past years and I have always thought for the hours these guys put in, they get paid very little. I have no problem paying for good quality, it's paying for crap that makes me angry at ANY price.

So I'm going over there very soon and downloading my new version of BoA2 with a smile on my face. And soon another patch will be out to make it even better, I know from the past...

It's posts like this that always remind me how much enjoyment I get from a game compared to other activities.

However, I've just subscirbed to Sky Sports so I can see your nations great sporting events (NASCAR and Indycar are on tonight), so it's out this month.

I understand your point... but that is... awful. There has to be a better way to say that.

BTW, you people need to go post your impressions over at the wargamer.com (a bit dirty to do it here). I need me some coercing, as I am on the edge. It will probably be one of my last games before Spore, unless we see some surprise releases.

Considering the alternative I had in mind at the time, this was the better way.
