Hey,
just started Barbarossa DCG's for both Germans and Russians with the 1.03 patch. I was hesitant to start another campaign of such grand proportions, but after seeing the new order of battle, I'm sold. However now I notice an old bug may still be here, i.e. missing formations. In my first game commanding an armored battalion, I receive 2 HQ's without the actual units they supply. This was something that popped up in the original Talonsoft DCG. Hopefully I won't have to restart my campaign again, my last trek led me to 1943, with over 50 battles fought until the inevitable crashes.
This time I can't wait to get all the way to 45'

The new order of battles only fix the 1SP crashes that were happening. Unfortunately, they do not address how the DCG's decide what part of the OOB will be chosen during the Campaign. That being the case, offshoot HQ's should be expected. Here is hoping your CORE unit still makes it on the map though (which it did fine in my testing)!

Ok, excellent. So far I'm enjoying the new OOB, I was even able to use mine engineers in the first DCG game that came up. As far as the extra HQ's, I think they were left over from the off board artillery, so its no issue.

I'm kind of curious about the organization selection, especially for Barbarossa South. When playing as Germans, actual Corps names are displayed, ie XXIV Corps. However for Russians we get Corps A, B, etc instead. Is this because of the frequent disbanding/destruction of Russian forces on the eastern front, making organization selection at this level largery pointless anyway?

Pretty much, yes.

Not only that, each of the letters represent a different "upgrade" type. So while you may be playing the typical "corps", the campaign will vary significantly depending on the Corps you choose. This is lifted from the DCG_Division_Type_Explanations.doc in the Manuals folder and should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

quote:

Russian Infantry Division Type Explanation

Rifle Division A

This division type starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign. This division has heavy upgrades overall.

Rifle Division B

This division type starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will remain with the Regular Infantry platoon types through the course of the Campaign. This division has minor upgrades overall.

Rifle Division C

This division type starts with Green Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign. This division has moderate upgrades overall.

Rifle Division D

This division type starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Guards Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign. This division has heavy upgrades overall.

Rifle Division E

This division type starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Green then to Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign. This division has heavy upgrades overall.

Rifle Division F

This division type has Infantry Regiment types from both Rifle Division A and E. This division has heavy upgrades overall.

Rifle Division G

This division type has Infantry Regiment types from both Rifle Division A and B. This division has heavy and minor upgrades.

Rifle Division H

This division type has Infantry Regiment types from both Rifle Division A and C. This division has heavy and moderate upgrades.

Mechanized Corp A

This Mechanized Corp has the Tank Brigade A which upgrades from the BT-7 & T26 through to the T-34/85. The Motorized Corp also has a Motorized Rifle Brigade A which starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign.

Mechanized Corp B

This Mechanized Corp has the Tank Brigade B which upgrades from the BT-7 & T26 through to the T-34/85. The Motorized Corp also has a Motorized Rifle Brigade A which starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign.

Mechanized Corp D

This Mechanized Corp has the Tank Brigade D which upgrades from the BT-7 & T26 through to the T-34 and then ends with Lend Lease equipment. The Motorized Corp also has a Motorized Rifle Brigade C which starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Guards Veteran Infantry platoons with Lend Lease trucks over the course of the Campaign.

Mechanized Corp B/C

This Mechanized Corp has the Tank Brigade B which upgrades from the BT-7 & T26 through to the T-34/85 and a Heavy Tank Brigade C which upgrades from a T-28 through to an IS3. The Motorized Corp also has a Motorized Rifle Brigade B which starts with Regular Infantry platoons and will eventually convert to Guards Veteran Infantry platoons over the course of the Campaign.

Unfortunately, you'd have to go through the Talonsoft order of battles and fix the issues.

Jason, where can i make the changes and what should i be looking for? I tried to edit the files in the edit order of battle screen but it would not let me edit the file. Do i have to edit them in windows explorer? Any hint in the right direction would be appreciated.

Biggest hint would be to open the companyXX.oob, battalionXX.oob, regimentXX.oob, brigadeXX.oob, divisionXX.oob and CampaignXX.oob in Notepad and ensure all the dates (end of one type and the start of the next type) are matching up properly.

Doing the same in your peters oob would be recommended as well.

acw,

the files you will want to edit/explore are the ones with the .oob file extention, identified by formation size and nationality code (00 for russian, 01 for German, etc.) These are simple ASCII files that can be opened and edited with any text editor like notepad or wordpad.

There is a document that came with 1.03 called Creating and Modifying a DCG.pdf that has a chapter on advanced editing that explains many of the nuances of OOB editing. Make backups of the original files before you edit or I guarantee you will be sorry.

Jason, One more question, i found and fixed a lot of type errors in the files and still no change. on the infantry that show up with a platoon strenth of 1, they have the following code 606657. which number represents its strenth points or number of platoons?

Without context, the code doesn't mean a lot. It could be just the unique ID within the campaign file for that particular platoon. While you're in there, your peters campaign file, you could just edit the strength.
