A couple of questions on what I may be doing wrong in my game. The VP level is about 850 USA to 500 CSA on easy mostly due to I've been able to take all/most of KY, MS, TN, AL, northern AR & western VA plus a little of NC.

It's mid/late 64 & I've noticed that I'm getting very few militias formed maybe only a couple each month whereas early in the game I was getting 6-7 each turn???

I've called 3 drafts just to see what happens but over the next few turns, I've never seen an increase in units available???

On combating raiders, why aren't my cruisers attacking them? I've got 16 cruisers in 3 fleets(leaders) to 8 raiders in the sea area to the east of the NE states. The only things I've seen is that the raiders seem to not be as effective in attacking merchant shipping but a couple of raiders have been "lost due to storms" but I've never seen cruisers attack raiders???

On the cruisers, I have to play dumb on that  (I always thought they'd be in supply & now found old post saying I needed to have a transport linked to port)
Yes I've been repairing alot lately due to being on the offensive but I still show large pop in several states but get no militia from those states even when factories are avail & supply is almost 4000 now.

calling drafts increases the pop. cost for the next few turns.  also, the lower your Political Points, the more costly recruitment is.  I assume, based on your statement that you called 3 drafts, that those are your main problems.

But when I called those drafts, shouldn't I have seen more units the next few turns appear, which I didn't? I didn't need to call a draft, I was just seeing what happened even knowing about the 50 pp cost

The turn you call a draft and the turn after, the population costs of militia (and all other units in construction) goes way down. Depending on how many units are in production, you could use up a lot of your population building/repairing those units so there would be less popuation left for the militia recruitment. Usually you'll notice the draft turn will give you a lot more militia, as will the second turn of the draft.

As long as it's asked here-- do I need transports *in* the sea region with the blockade ships, or merely *adjacent* to the sea region with the blockade ships?

Ok thanks Joel, maybe that is my problem due to being on the offensive, I'm using most of my pop repairing veteran units so no militia are being created. I just thought w/ a draft I'd see new units forming regardless of units repairing. Well it's just a learning game anyway so I don't care if I'm not reelected in 64

Don't forget to raise the "Black Troops". The draft becmes less effective as time wears on; the black troops provides a great boost throughout the second half of the game -- all at a one-time cost of 50 PP's. This is what makes qualifying for the EP soooo important.

I'd love to declare EP but due to holding the 3 drafts, that's about out of the question plus I never seem to get a Major or Strategic victory only minor ones or losses in big battles to help it plus it looks like I'm going to be voted out of office  But this was first game just to learn on before taking on real game

jcjordan:

There is a lot of room to play around the edges come '62. Invade the easy ports such as in FL and TX. Push in Arkansas -- reinforcing even by 1 infantry per turn will add up and you should punch through into downstate Arkansas. Texas seems pretty squishy -- try getting some cavalry down there after you invade and you can pick up areas even without initiative. Remember you can invade on ANY coastal zone -- not just those with ports if you need the PP's. There are enough squishy places that you can keep your PP's from sliding away as you hammer hard in Tennessee. You will get your Strategic Victory and the EP! The black troops make all the diffence -- and it is espacially fun to have them form units in Confederate cities after you capture them.

Transports dont require supply. And yes GB's, Crusiers and IC's draw 1 supply a turn.
