Can any of you give me an exacting answere to how much hard drive space V6.1 requires when extracted and installed? Please state if your response is exacting or a guess.

Thanks,
Zaxilon :D

1.1 gigs with new sounds that take 250megs.

Give 1.3 gigs room to spwaw and keep your swap (or free space) at least 256 megs.

quite excact answer ;)

zaxilon,

I do not have the sound files that skukko refered to (no high-speed internet connection!), but 7.1, with Russian Steel, takes up 635 MB on my computer. That leave you any room? (not sure about 6.1 with no sound upgrade)

Zaxilon: I can't give you the answers you'd like to hear, but I have a pretty lean machine. A 2GB HD and 48MB RAM, Presently have ~450MBS HD available. Win 95B, PII, and SPWaW 7.1 and 2 Mega Camps installed, misc other junk like Email and WEB (you know) all working just fine. Remember you'll need more than the installed MBs due to installation routine. I just got rid of a lot of junk from my machine. If push comes to shove I'll remove one of my MCs since I can only play one at a time, I can also transfer all the scenarios and camps that came installed, manual, map thing etc. to a CDR for future use. Try it you'll probably get by also. GOOD LUCK and GOOD HUNTING ........chief (Hope This Helps):D :D :)

Well, the following might hurt but if the disk space is a problem, I have *the* solution:

Delete sounds. ~250MB (Be sure vid998.smk in \sounds\smk is not deleted, all other files ind \sound and \sound\smk can be deleted)

Delete scenarios, maps and and campaigns. :( ~140MB

Of course you can save some for play. By deleting *some* of them you can free up space but still have plenty left to play afterwards. Of course battles can still be played.

Delete \pic directory. This will remove tank pictures from encyclopaedia. ~16MB

Delete "chlanda" directory. This contains editors and stuff. Also nice to have, but not necessary. (good programs anyway) ~7MB

SPWAW can take just about 120MB if compressed (very!) aggressively.

Yikes! 120megs! I thought I was a butcher when I chopped my install down to 500 megs from 1000. I got rid of all the music and background sound effects and kept all the weapon and vehicle noises. That's a really thorough list of choices Svennemir has given, but I hope you don't have to chop it down that much (although it's certainly good to know it can be done). I don't listen to the music and I can live without the miscellaneous background battle and weather noises as long as I still have the specific weapon and vehicle sounds, so fortunately mine wasn't painful at all (I'd probably edit it the same way even if I had infinite HD space). The sound map makes editing the unwanted sounds out easy. Good luck! :)
