Let me preface this by stating that I'm a musician, and played bass guitar in a band for over 20 years. I inherited my talent from my dad's side of the family. Dad's youngest brother, who plays guitar and is an electronics whiz, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. It has already spread to his lungs, and he will soon start undergoing chemotherapy.

An older uncle, Harvey, was cured of cancer, and is now enjoying his retirement years. I'm hoping that Uncle Denver (nicknamed "Duke") can do the same. Duke helped inspire me when I was a kid in the '60s, turning me on to his Elvis records, which he had transferred to reel-to-reel tape. Listening to that music, on old headphones, transformed me.

I hope you guys will support him with your prayers and best wishes.

Thank you.

Regards to all,
Glenn

Count me in, old scout. I've lost many family and friends to cancer, including my wife. It's a tough go for all concerned, as I'm sure you already know.

Keep us informed, will you? Hoping for good news all the way fer yer Unk.

Prayers are said, and in the family devotional.

My wife survived cancer twice. It can be done.

Regards,

Best wishes KG! A co-worker of mine whom I was good friends with at work died of cancer. Work never seemed the same afterward.

As one guitarist to another, my prayers are with your uncle! If you keep the music going, I'm sure it will help him sustain his inner strength for this battle against the cancer.

Give him a hug for me!

Any Elvis fan is worthy of support

I don't subscribe to the religion thing, KG, but I will think of him and wish him well.

Sure thing. My dad got cured from cancer some thirty years ago, he's dead now but it bought him an extra 25 years of life. Yeah you can bet you know how to pray again when trouble comes.

Best wishes to you.

Josh

I lost my Grandfather to cancer and had quite a scare with my mother (who is doing great now), so I will certainly send my best prayers and thoughts to your uncle. My wife does Reiki as well, and I will have her send some distance Reiki to him!

Tell him that we are all thinking about him, perfect strangers who care about his health and well-being because all life is sacred.

My thoughts to you, your family, and your uncle!

KG, Sorry to hear about your uncle Duke.  I will pray for him.  I have no doubt that the Lord answers prayers and speaks to us sometimes in our on words and thoughts.

I thank you all for your responses, but here's the prognosis: it's incurable. The cancer has already spread too far. It's in his lungs and other areas. It's only a matter of time. The only thing left to do is prepare for the inevitable.

Sad news, but perhaps trying to accentuate the positive aspect of the life he still has left is the best route. Miracles do occur, and medical science is an imperfect science. Even so, he should do what we all should do and live each day for today, do the things he never had a chance to do or the things that he kept putting off. I'll still think about him and send him all the good vibes/prayers I can, now more that he makes this next transition in a manner that he can feel satisfied and content with.

Sorry for the new update KG. In that "inevitable preparation" you talk about. He will find solace and strength in his faith. I will remember him now in my prayer.

Really sorry to hear that, KG. Here's to hoping his remaining time is spent with family and friends and having the chance to do the things he wants to do.

Thanks, guys. I've fought back shedding tears all this time, but they will come. To me, he remains as the young man I once knew. He never turned into an "old guy", and to see him taken away in this fashion, even with all of the modern medical advances, is a tragedy that really hasn't hit just yet. I'm tearing up as I write this, so I'm moving out of the "denial" phase. My dear Aunt Jackie is a sweet woman, who has gone through hell, but has remained strong. I gotta get my grief out before I see her at the funeral, and try to be strong WITH her. Same goes for Duke's daughters and his grandchildren.

I apologize for babbling, but this one is going to be tough to get through.
