Now I am looking for five ships.

No. 1
1) I have my own counter in WIF.
2) My fate is shown in a movie.
3) I sunk after being hit by two torpedoes.

No. 2 is Scharnhorst as Warspite1 already concluded.
1) I have my own counter in WIF.
2) I once had a Airfix model of this ship. I thought she looked like a beauty.
3) My wreck was discovered during the 21st century.

No. 3
1) I have no counter in WIF.
2) I was sunk by aircraft.
3) There was an apology and indemnity was paid after my sinking.

No. 4
1) I have my own counter in WIF.
2) I was sunk by aircraft.
3) During my active career I spent most of my time in port and was mainly used for AA purposes.

No. 5
1) I have no counter in WIF but I might be considered part of a generic counter.
2) I survived the war.
3) My Captain (one of them) has been honored with a statue (at least one).

Best Guesses:

1. KMS Bismarck
2. KMS Scharnhorst (as previously determined)
3. USS Panay
4. USS Utah (That has a counter...?) OR could be either Yamato or Musashi.
5. Want to say USS Flasher, but can't confirm that GW Grider has a statue. OR could be any of the several escort ships commanded by Frederic John Walker.

USS Panay is correct. Since I was looking for HMS Starling commanded by Captain Frederic John Walker, CB, DSO, I'll give you a correct answer for that one as well. Well done.

That's the USS Indianapolis (pictured alongside DD-240 USS Sturtevant in 1934).

(Bismarck was also sunk after being hit by two swordfish torpedoes, her fate was shown in the movie Sink the Bismark, and I'm pretty sure she has a WiF counter.) :-)

Nothing right here either. Hr. Ms. Thor and Hr. Ms. Tyr sound like a couple of icebreakers. Never heard of them.

Well, than your knowledge of the Dutch Navy in the World War needs shaping up...

Hr. Ms. Thor: build in 1876 was stationed in Den Helder as a Minelayer/Gun Boat when war started. She was captured by the Germans and used by them in Flushing (Vlissingen) as a "Hafenschützboot". She sunk in februari 1941 during an Allied air attack.

Hr. Ms. Tyr: build in 1877 was used as a River Gun Boat on the Waal River in 1940, got captured by the Germans and used by them as a "Hafenschützboot", "Küstenschützboot" and Auxillary Minelayer. After the German capitulation she was scrapped.

Both fit the description at that point, so I thought: why not put them in here, just for fun...

My knowledge of the Dutch Navy do need shaping up.

But I did manage to find a picture of the icebreaker Tor at work.

These small ships are just an example of the thousands of small vessels, often obsolete and old, which were used in 1001 roles across the globe during the war. It's amazing how many we know about the larger ships or the ships which were "popular" in the war (like the U-boats, the S-boats and MTB's) and how few information is available on the men and accompliced tasks of these small vessels.

Indeed so - and here is one such

From Wikipedia

Thomas Wilkinson VC (1 August 1898 – 14 February 1942) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

Wilkinson was 43 years old, and a temporary lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve during the Second World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC.

On 14 February 1942 in the Java Sea, off Malaya, HMS Li Wo, a patrol vessel, formerly a passenger steamer, commanded by Lieutenant Wilkinson, sighted two enemy convoys, one escorted by Japanese warships, The lieutenant told his crew he had decided to engage the convoy and fight to the last in the hope of inflicting some damage, a decision that drew resolute support from the whole ship's crew. In the action that followed, a Japanese transport was set on fire and abandoned, and Li Wo engaged a heavy cruiser for over an hour before being hit at point-blank range and sunk. Lieutenant Wilkinson ordered his crew to abandon ship, but he went down with Li Wo.

...and here is another. Pol III (below) the Norwegian patrol boat that encountered the lead ships of Marine Gruppe V that were heading for Oslo in April 1940. Pol III challenged the intruders and her crew, ordering they turn back out of Norwegian waters. The crew managed to get off warning flares, but in a brief fire fight with the torpedo boat Albatross, her captain, Leif Welding-Olsen was mortally wounded.

There I go again:

6: What tiny Dutch vessel shall I mention this time... Why not the Z 5... Now this is a question for you: why was this ship called by the British "Razor Blade"?

No, not the Bismarck, although one might be German. And not the Z5, and none of these are Dutch. As for Razor Blade I have no idea I'm afraid....

There I go again:

1 - 5: Bismarck... (I hope this time the ship is in the quiz...)

6: What tiny Dutch vessel shall I mention this time... Why not the Z 5... Now this is a question for you: why was this ship called by the British "Razor Blade"?

warspite1

No, not the Bismarck, although one might be German. And not the Z5, and none of these are Dutch. As for Razor Blade I have no idea I'm afraid....

In may 1943 the Z5 was transferred to the British navy as HMS Blade. Due to the form of the bow, the British crew gave her the nickname Razor Blade...
