The answer to MR's Q.14 is probably Bagration.

Bagration was the largest successful operation against German troops but by far not the largest in the war.

Good Hunting.

45) Which country used dogs to attack tanks? USSR at the beginning of the war, after some time german troops were able to recognize and shoot them. The soviets were sending dogs with explosives attached to them at the germans vehicles and infantry. That was not a very successfull tactic.

46) The T-34 was the most produced vehicle by the Soviet Union. What was the second most produced vehicle? T34/85?

48) Which Allied fighter is credited with destroying more Axis aircraft than any other? F6F Hellcat?

49) Which is the only unit to have fought at Normandy, Arnhem, Aachen, the Huertgen Forest, in the Ardennes offensive, at the Reichswald and in the Ruhr Pocket? Easy company of the 101st airborne division?

Good Hunting.

MR

45) That's right the Soviets. Not only was it not successful. When the dogs were turned loose and the Germans started firing at them they would run back and hide under Soviet tanks. Blowing them up instead of the German tanks.

46) No, the T-34/76 and T-34/85 numbers are combined to be the total number for the T-34. They are not counted separately.

48) That's incorrect.

49) That's incorrect.

Good Hunting.

At first, it looks as a western allies unit, but they did not fight at the Reichswald (same thing as Reichtag?).

I am trying : La Legion Charlemagne.

49) 9th or 10th SS Panzer? I forget which was at Arnhem. The only other unit at Arnhem, depending on how you define the battle of Arnhem, was the British 'Red Devils' 6th Para....and several of those battles were all-American affairs on the Allied side.

no time to read the rest of the questions right now, but always look forward to seeing this thread, thanks

It does indeed depend on what you consider the battle for Arnhem. In this case the correct term should probably be Operation Market Garden for western members of this forum. The Germans didn't use that term. They considered the entire battle as for Arnhem. Which in a way it was.

Good Hunting.

49) Which is the only unit to have fought at Normandy, Arnhem, Aachen, the Huertgen Forest, in the Ardennes offensive, at the Reichswald and in the Ruhr Pocket?

Well I'd say it has to be a German Falschirmjaeger unit. Normandy/Ardennes are definites. Arnhem as well if you are talking about the corridor and initial defense against XXX Corps, Huertegen I'm not sure about but I think there were para units fed into this meat grinder. Possibly the units from Huertegen were rebuilt quickly and used for Ardennes? Reichswald not a clue. Ruhr Pocket....well most German units ended up in there apart from those in the north gainst Monty.
I could go and look at my German OOB book but I'll guess
....6th Parachute Rgt/ 3 Falschirm Div.

That's because there aren't two Reichswalds...One is the Reichswald and the other is the Reichstag is a building in Berlin. They are not the same. I changed my earlier answer to reflect that.

Whichever nation it belongs to it's not an infantry unit.

31) What was the largest operational tank in WWII?

...

37) What does the word Currahee mean and who used it as a battlecry?

...

Good Hunting.

31: Either the Japanese O-I Super Heavy tank (120t, 3 turrets), while it was experimental, one was shipped to Manchuria where it is unknown if it became operational, or more likely, the German Tiger II (69.8t), 487 built.

37: During their training, the US 506th PIR of the 101st Airborne were ordered to climb Mt Currahee (Cherokee for "We Stand Alone"); the name of this mountain became their battlecry.

31) The Maus was larger than the O-I heavy tank. The Maus weighed in at 188 tons while the O-I was a light weight at 130 tons.

37) That is correct. I've added your answer to the main list.

Good Hunting.

Yes, the score is air to air kills.

It is not the Spitfire, Typhoon, P-39, P-47 or P-51.

Good Hunting.

micheljq suggested F6F Hellcat in a earlier post. Is that the correct answer?
