Well that's embarrassing - is it worse people thinking I thought the siege of Sevastopol was in July 41 (although I suspect December was too early anyway), or confusing V for 10 ?

Personally I think either are sufficiently bad such that there is only decent thing to do. I shall retire from the forums and not show my face in public again.......

It's not as bad as it was for Becker.

Edit: Page change isolated my quaint retort as always...

Pending Patchogue deciding on a question or not, I thought I would return to: what WIF counter am I? Five clues coming up one at a time.

Two ships, one well known, one perhaps less so:

Ship 1
Clue 1 - I am not a named vessel in WIF , but given my official type, you could make a case for one.

Ship 2
Clue 1 - I do have my own counter in WIF .

Wild guess. Ship 1 is BB Rodney and ship 2 is BB Nelson.

No to both I'm afraid - WIF has individual counters for all CL's and above so 1 cannot be Rodney.

Okay next clue.

Which Ships In Flames counter am I?

Ship 1
Clue 1 - I am not a named vessel in WIF , but given my official type/designation, you could make a case for one.
Clue 2 - My construction began in 1939, I was completed two years later but was then sunk, just a little over 5 months after entering service.

Ship 2
Clue 1 - I do have my own counter in WIF .
Clue 2 - I was completed just before the outbreak of WWI; but I did not survive WWII.

Ahh okay - should have made clearer - since SIF came out I would never consider not using that option. I will amend the clue - I am talking WIF using SIF.

Yes, I originally said a WIF counter which in my mind I took to mean any counter from the WIF game. It seems (as usual) I have not made myself clear, so:

These ship counter questions assume that all World In Flames optional rules are being used. That is quite an important point re Ship 1, Clue 1.

CVE HMS Audacity?

(I haven't checked, but I suspect most/all CVE's are unnamed in WIF)

Greek battleship Kilkis? (originally USS Mississippi)

My old Marshall Cavendish Encyclopedia of WWII calls it Kilkis, but other references say Lemnos...

edit: additional research suggests that Lemnos was decommissioned prior to WW2, while Kilkis was sunk in 1941, so I'm going with Kilkis. Still haven't found a counter for it, though.

Light carriers (CVL) have their own counters but not CVE.

No. You are right, there is no counter for Kilkis.

No sorry. I'm guessing you thought she was one of the two D-class given to the Polish navy? I'm afraid not (they were Dragon and Danae).

Okay two clues to go, so time to drill down a bit without making it too easy.

Which World In Flames (all optional counters included) am I?

Ship 1
Clue 1 - I am not a named vessel in WIF, but given my official type/designation, you could make a case for one.
Clue 2 - My construction began in 1939, I was completed two years later but was then sunk, just a little over 5 months after entering service.
Clue 3 - I am a Royal Navy Vessel
Clue 4 - There were six of us in total (50% of which were lost in WWII).

Ship 2
Clue 1 - I do have my own counter in WIF .
Clue 2 - I was completed just before the outbreak of WWI; but I did not survive WWII.
Clue 3 - I was not built in the country I fought for.
Clue 4 - I am a capital ship, and I changed designation during my lifetime i.e. I started life as one type of capital ship and finished as another after modernisation.

Warspite1

Well done monkla, Kongo it is She was built in the UK as a battlecruiser for the IJN, before being modernised in the inter-war years, after which she was re-classified as a battleship.

Clue 5 would have been - If you ignore the spelling, this ship could have served with the Belgian navy!

HMS LATONA - Abdiel-class Fast Cruiser Minelayer ?

Warspite1

...is the correct answer . The important clue being the first i.e. as a cruiser minelayer she could have had a counter in WF (and probably would have had she been German, Italian or Japanese.

I hadn't decided upon a 5th clue, as being a more difficult question I would have needed to make the last clue more obvious - but obviously ezz was equal to the challenge.

Okay - a slight change of scenery:

Which WIF (all options included) aircraft am I?

Aircraft 1:

Clue 1 - I do have a World In Flames Counter and I fought with the Allies

Aircraft 2:

Clue 1 - I do have a World In Flames Counter and I too fought with the Allies
