play the shorter scenerios first.  I played the campaign first and got totally over my head.  so, now I am playing the shorter games and learning a thing here, a thing there.

Keep with it.  It is well worth it.  Try a smaller scenario, then try the grand campaign for a month {game time} to learn it and the map.  Once you've got that under your belt try the full show.  If you miss something, you've got four years of single day turns to make it up.  You don't think Nimmitz got everything right the first time do you?

Good point.

I think the thing is how much information there is in this game.  Upgrading, transferring, attacking, defending... *head explodes*

:)

The way I learned the game, was to play the grand campain, BUT...

Play only the India-Burma theater.  Set everything else to computer control, and only the Indy-Bumra theater.  Don't get too bent out of shape if the AI does stupid things with the Americans and Dutch (it'll do stupid things with Japan as well).  And the point is more to LEARN than to beat it (this time around).  It makes things much more managable, and you still end up learning air-sea-land.

Amen!

Moderation if for monks. If you want to play WITP, go for the gusto -- full campaign game!

Agree w/Mugu. I started with the Marianas scenario in the tutorial, then went to Coral Sea. Great way to learn.

The campaign scenario is intimidating.

I'm emjoying the 1st year and turning point scenarios. In both I set up the 1st turn, then save it, then play. Learn from my mistakes

This is how I did it too. Once you get the basics down and start throwing the AI into confusion, go for a PBEM. That's when the game really comes alive! Good luck and welcome .

that is what I am doing ...over and over and over......I am old and learn slow but have progressed further into the game each time.
I must be on my 6th start as allies vs computer AI and I am at the end of Feb 42 and am down boy 2K 5000+ vs 7000+ The PI are still holding out, Singapore is gone DI is going fast. I have 4 carriers and will be attempting to invade Sipan soon. Just keep at it and if your repeat the same turns several times you can learn what you left out and get better.
I am still not good enough to be much more of a challenge to a human player than the AI but I am improving and by the time AE comes out I will have to start again LOL
