Okay, here is the first step towards releasing a new DB Editor. I need a few people (or a LOT, preferably) to download this Beta and test its functionality. It should be compatible with Vista now and XP. Currently, I just have the ability to edit players and league info. Mor will come later, but for now, I am trying to figure a few things out with VB.NET compared to VB6.

As always... MAKE BACKUPS before testing!

Max FB Database Editor (v 2.2.7.0) BETA 1

REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have .NET framework 1.0 through 3.5 installed (these are free installs from Microsoft)
- Unzip both files into the same location.

Good luck and enjoy!

JD

That's weird because it's saying that the index array when calling the display league info function is out of bounds. But it shouldnt be. It's not even really an array. It has one item... your league info.

Make sure you send me the DB File and tell me exactly what you were doing when you got this error.

@bbmike

Perhaps you can describe what you have done while working with the editor. I assume that you have something changed (a rating or something other) and your change was out of the limits so that a runtime error occured.

It runs under Vista for me, as well.  I can't fool around much with it since I haven't officially started my league yet, but it looks promising!

I'm using Simmer's NCAA league file so it's big (around 170MB). I can try uploading it to my website and provide you a link to it if you want to look at it. I did try opening the default .mdb files provided with Max FB and got the same error.
Another note, I did edit the NCAA file with dbviewer.exe (from FBMAX) but since I didn't edit the default .mdb files I doubt that would be the issue since they won't work either.

Okay. Is his NCAA file at FB Max? If so, there's no reason to re-upload it somewhere. I'll search around for it and see if I can find it.

JD

EDIT: Is it the one found here?

It is indeed and yes we are

JD, editor looks really good, I'm loving the addition of salary and imports
and (although dead at the moment) the individual player skin textures section will make my life a ton easier.

That's what I like to hear! I'm moving on to Global Edits now. It might take me a bit to re-figure out how the heck I did it last time, AND I am going to Champaign tonight (GO LILLINI!), but we'll see how it goes!

Two Things

1. Assigning player photos does not work. The editor will show you a folder but you can not load a photo.

2. When you edit player names then they should appear in capitals (every letter). I am not too excited about that design decision (ot the game) so you could leave it like it is or make it optional.

Hmmmmmm........
thats odd Tillius, I'm having no trouble changing player photo's
I went straight in after reading your posts because it was something I hadnt checked yet........ it worked fine for me

lower case letter's, the old editor by JD also used lower case letter's, I much prefer it that way
names such as : McDonald and De Agostini read correctly using lower case, it just dont look right all in caps, IM - Humble - O

Here i agree. You can read names much better when you use upper and lower case letters. "McDonald" is mucher cleaner than "MCDONALD". But the game uses as standart only capitals and when it generates players all names are written in capitals (but i will -"want"- use later an alternate methode to generate players and rookies.)

Okay, I am seeing no issues with the photo upload. What exactly is it you are doing when it's not showing up?

As far as the text being all caps, I can add an option in the "Options" form to display the text boxes as all caps or as "regular." This way people can have it both ways.

no probs on photo loading for me either,
and the Caps thing, just a thought but for those who want all caps........ cant they just hit the caps lock
instead of you knocking ya'self out adding things in that really arnt necessary, you've gotta be busy enough already

That is weird... I have no idea why it's doing that. It looks like it's changing the picture, but not showing up in the DB editor. Is that correct?

Okay, I know what the problem is. Your Maximum Football folder is called "Maximum-Football v2.0" and my editor is looking for a folder called "Maximum-Football"

This is something I will have to change as well. I think I will have to add an option to set your default Maximum-Football location. Don't change anything on your end (unless you just want to real quick to verify that was the problem). By the time the official first release come out, I will make sure there is an option to change the default Maximum-Football directory.

JD

Version 2 installs the game not more in the folder "Maximum-Football". It uses now "Maximum-Football v2". This is a design decision so that users have access to both games. My old "Maximum-Fooball" folder i use only for my testing purposes now.

Maybe they have changed it later. The beta discussion was one year ago. You will find the link in the beta forum.

couple of minor things that dont work on the new editor JD

League settings

1. Kick off from - always resets itself to goaline
2. fatigue and injuries - always resets to not checked
