Hi, A new player just getting to grips. A bit of a struggle with initiative but perservering.

Playing as the Union and for life of me cant work out how to dismiss a theater or army commander. I know how to promote and assign to those positions.
I have my 4 ACs and 2 TCs but cant get rid of McClennan?

Tony, on the toolbar that pops up on the right of the playing map, down near the promotion tabs is a dismiss leader tab. see rules page 60.

Tony,
I'm curious. What year is it and who did you replace him with? Were you playing historic leader ratings or something else?

Hi,

It is late 1863. Despite 3 attempts to dislodge the confederates from Manassas and frustrated at the lack of units getting initiative I replaced McClennan with Butler and McDowell with Meade.
I am using historical.

Doing better although still slow in the west. First battle in Paducah although I won I lost Grant for 11 months to injury. A slow slog from then on.

I find it difficult to get enough troops to overwhelm the rebs it mostly seems to be evenly matched and in those cases they always win. That and the rushing of loads more units during the reaction phase.

Enjoyable though.

Anthony,

Forgive me for restating the obvious in an attempt to help (you'll understand that "helpers" don't assume the obvious if you read the thread on the fellow that didn't understand that you had to put your cruisers in AO2 to stop the pirates), you may wish to read and ponder the rules and math on TC initiative.

As you recall, the formula is rank (numerator current number of stars/denominator 4) times command rating (numerator present CR/demoninator 20) times administrative rating (numerator is his admin rating/denominator is 6). If you haven't done so, get a calculator out and multiply these fractions out as you ponder possible TC.

For AC the initiative is different, but likewise can be multiplied out. Run the numbers on a couple of candidates.

FWIW one pbem game I went ahead and promoted McClellan to a four star general and made him TC. It cost me 110 PPs, but he was pretty cool. The math was 4/4 times 18/20 times 4/6: 60%, not bad for a Union general.

Hi,

Took a better look at Butler. Seems he is not to bad after all. Currently showing; 4/4 times 23/20 times 4/6: 66%.

His army commanders Meade and Halleck not so good, both at 50%; atk/mod 2 + depot 5 + help 0/roll 14.

My other TC, Fremont (poor choice) is 3/4 tims 2/6 times 20/20 = 25% He needs to go.

Grant as an AC is good at 4+depot5+help 0/roll 14 = 64% Needs to become a TC.
