Not to 'get' in anyone's 'face'..........

This is ridiculous.........

Every update should be available for individual download at all times...........

I can't even believe that I have to 'post' this............

What could 'you' be thinking? I won't specify 'you'!

No, I'm sorry, I won't apologize, just one 'gamer' to another who has gone through this over the years, to many times............

If you are not part of the solution, they you are............

'Ban' me if you want......

Dennis

I wish I can understand what you are talking about.
You tried to be too coy here? Or edited out information that would expose your pique?

You don't save the various update to your harddrive when they are available?

Always handy to do, just in case, especially since we only support the latest update.

Dennis,

If you will send me your e-mail address, I will send you a zipped 1.02 and 1.02b.
I think all you need to do is ask nicely, and you will find solutions to your JTCS problems on this forum.

Regards,

Finding JTCS v1.02 much too large to send as an e-mail attachment, I finally remembered that I had downloaded it from GAMESPOT.

GAMESPOT - PC - STRATEGY - JOHNTILLERSCAMPAIGNSERIES

at the following link:

Though poorly worded, he does have a point.  All the other Matrix games have the past patches for download, not just the latest.... unless the patch is comprehensive then it may not matter, though some folks do like to play with specific versions.

I keep backups of all the main game installs but do not always have all the patches. This can be problemtic when installing after an O/S reinstall or such. Is there a reason the patches are not maintained for download?

The last two UPDATEs will be 220MB each?

Are they comprehensive then? If not, now I know I should save them all, which is not a problem, I just did not know. I am about 20 Matrix games and the patches are always there. I am not trying to antagonize - merely asking.

Yes, of course they are.

I think the point was the fact that he could choose which update he wanted to install...It is good that the latest has all the bells and whistles, but sometimes it is just makes sense to have the patches available for the user who wishes not to do the all in one install. Just a thought
Thanks

Actually it might be a good idea to separate the new graphics and other space hungry files from the actual fixes, then those with slow connection could choose to use all the benefits of the 1.04 patch just without the graphical improvements. I think there are some Matrix games (cannot remember the specific title though) that require installing a few patches, not just the last comprehensive one.

The 83 MB video tutorial should definitely be optional....

Yes, all I was refering to was the fact that all of the upgrades for a game should be available at the 'game' site!

Even after all these years, I made the inexcusable mistake of not making a backup! Go ahead laugh it up, I deserve it!! My only excuse was that I got so caught-up in the pronouncements and claims of the 'new' update that I let it 'blind' me to the real-world!

Everyone makes mistakes, you all can form a line behind me if you like, I think 1.03 proves that!! So, no excuses! But all of the iterations of the various updates should be available on the site, at all times. Not just for those who want to 'revert' to a previous version, but for those who also may be conducting comparative tests, or are new (just got it in the mail) types! After all, not all ideas start with the 'powers that be'!

By the way, thank all of you for the links to the 1.02 sites. Oh, and 'countblue', since my last '@sskicking' we should try another game! I'll pm you, okay? "RR", sorry!?

For simplicity sake (K.I.S.S.), only the latest UPDATE will be available here.

Additionally, only the latest UPDATE will be supported.

A number of links have been posted where you can find the other updates using google.

Dennis,

It's cool! I honestly did not know what direction you were headed.

I agree with you. And, I do not care if the old patches are supported. They should be available for those who do not want the "latest" upgrade.
It surely would be more customer friendly?

Plus, I agree with Juggalo, and would like to add, that all large files that are not integral parts of "playing the game" should be an optional download.

hmmmm...interesting,,,could you Jason possible have a links page to where all these downloads are? or is that maybe out of scope to the latest and greates...besides on latest patch being supported....i still did not get support even some from previous issues on vista. but that is neother here nor there...It would go along way for customers to have available these downloads from one site instead having to bounce every where for them. Also if you purchased a JTCS ussed from another party and they regisitered it can the registration transfer or are you stuck in the 1.00 world?

This issue has come up before on other games. I believe that in order to register a game with Matrix you need to buy it from Matrix. If you buy it used from a 3rd party who already registered it the system will prevent you from using the serial number twice.

This is part of the downside of buying used software. But it is fair.

Thank you Jason, for making the official position crystal clear. I choose to accept it. Others may choose to continue moaning and groaning.
I have all updates stored on a backup disk. If things ever get really desperate I would be happy to share that disk with anyone. The updates are way too large to attach to an e-mail.

This is part of the downside of buying used software. But it is fair.

This can be solved quite simply if the seller can provide his account too (trouble is when he has other games registered). But even if he cannot give the account together with the game, this only limits the members area, which many people do not use anyway (I for one want a patch to correct problems not cause them, hence I shun the betas). The patch itself only checks the serial, which is valid and the patch does not know who types it in. So there really should be no problem for second hand game owners. On the other hand maybe matrix should allow transfering the game to a different account, I have almost no knowledge of US law, but in many countries customer rights are assigned to the legal owner of the product, it does not matter if it is the first owner or not. That said many companies try to go around it (e.g. Microsoft) so having a look at the EULA should be in order.

I ranto the problem with this issue on a few games i bought....red orchestra, korsun pocket, and now jtcs...even though these games are legally purchased leets say on ebay...the owner gives the regisration rights up...but apparently this is not the case. If consumer buy any [roduct aftermarket I feel that they should be able to upgrade those even if they can't register that number. I understand the reasoing behin a registered copy upgrade but for people that buy aftermarket products are buying something that may not work even though it is a bug ridden version of a game that tweaks have been fixed. I know this is not just a matrix issue but I think it is more of an industry wide stance. Opinions anyone?

What do you mean you can't update the games? I mean, they ask for a serial upon install, I assume when it's given the install progresses, and then it is asked again upon patching, and should be accepted if it was accepted upon install. Is that not the case?

when you purchase a thirdty yes you get the serial number...if the serial has been registered you cannot get that update on the members page...also you cannot register the game. so in essence you are stuck with a particular rev unless there is a web page that has the updates on it that you can download outside of matrix

Just a thought, for those who download patches and have an aftermarket copy of the game.
The above link has all the upgrade patches, including version 1.04Beta. Why would you be forced to download from Matrix if you can get them there?
And, even if they did not have the latest patch, wouldn't you be far above version 1.01?

I do understand the support issue, but, "you" did buy a used item?

Just a thought.
