Greetings,

It is wished to use the A6M2 in the future for long range escort duties instead of the A6M5. Please advise if there are any possibilities of stopping the automatic factory upgrades (logically if the IJN were in a position of strength in 1944, the offensive posture would be favoured by A range 11 escort ability).

You can't stop the auto upgrade, but you can keep a lot of A6M2s in your pool and them use them when you need to.

That's right but don't forget that if you have in your pool more than 10 times the needs to complete strength on map or in reinforcements, the planes in excess are removed against 1 resource point per engine.

For example, if you keep 1000 A6M2 in pool, you should have at least 4 Daitai of A6M2 (108 planes max) on map or in reinforcement.

Follow Up Idea ~

If the Upgrade Path is edited (in the Scenario Editor) so that A6M2 --> A6M3a and does not upgrade to A6M5, will the factories be affected or remain A6M3a.

Speaking of the Zeke upgrade path, anyone know if (for CHS) the A6M5 can upgrade to A6M7 when those become available?

Referring to carrier-based units in particualr.

This would require a restart of any ongoing games though.

I made a check with CHS 155.
The answer is NO.
A6M5 is upgrading in A6M8; but as A6M8 is a fighter bomber like A6M7 and as some A6M7 airgroups are arriving in april 44, you will be able to upgrade A6M5 group into A6M7 via A6M8 but not before april 45, date of release of A6M8.

I am not sure it is a good news for you.

Thanks for the reply. As for the A6M7, would you know if A6M5 production auto-converts to A6M7 in April 44?

I have had the same thought, you need a long-range escort for the 2E torpedo bombers, even if those fighters STINK, and will get shot down. You can't avoid the factories upgrading.

You can use the Ki-43IIa, which has basically the same range as the ZERO. A reason to produce some of those (as well as to fill out reinforcement units).

When a plane A is upgrading in plane B (in the scenario editor), that means that the factory A will auto-convert in factory B.
So, the A6M5 production will auto-convert in A6M8 production in april 45.
You have to convert yourself some factories in A6M7 if you want to have these planes in production in april 44 or before.
