I know this might not be an option for you, but one way to get around only hitting one LCU with your LBA, is to strike from more than one AF. At least that's my experience.

yeah thatīs a way to get more LCUs hit, thanks for the tip. Problem is that I donīt want to attack from another base than Homan as Homan is only 2 hexes away and I still take op losses each turn. Would I attack from Ichang further South I guess my op losses would further increase as this base is 4 or 5 hexes from the target.

I guess I will just have to keep on attacking and rotating my units in and out. I try to not attack with units that are below 90/100. I have more than enough support at the front and at Homan to see my units being brought back to combat readiness within short time. Something the Chinese units wonīt have.

Iīve spotted troops moving out of Chungking going North on the road, so I guess Miller is now sending reinforcements to Sian. A little late again and so far only two units left Chungking.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 05/13/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Yanam at 22,21

Japanese Ships
DD Ikazuchi
DD Inazuma
DD Shirayuki
DD Isonami
DD Shirakumo
DD Usugumo

Allied Ships
SS O21

My ASW forces still try to hunt down enemy subs, still with the usual results. With all those engagements since the start of the war, only three or four subs have been sunk by depth charges. O21 was later in the day hit by a Val on nav search. Only two enemy subs are spotted in the invasion area. CV Shokaku is save, heading for a major repair shipyard, heck even the damaged big AK seems to be able to make it, retiring to Rangoon with only 42 flt damage.

So far the invasion is going unbelievable well. I canīt believe that Miller isnīt really acting. The longer he waits the harder it will be. No air attacks, the RN was evacuated, the subs returned to their ports and even all his ground troops in the Calcutta area stay static! What is he up to? Does he even have a plan?

I donīt want to think that he has really written India off, itīs just too important. It will take another two days and my convoys have all unloaded and then my armada will head back to Rangoon to replenish and pick up the second wave of troops. At the moment some 4800 assault points have been unloaded at Yanam.

as the enemyīs assault value again dropped by 11 points in one day, I have ordered a deliberate attack for tomorrow. Am really excited how the enemyīs adjusted assault value will look like...

550 enemy assault value moved out of Chungking, amazingly the number of troops stayed exactly the same! Guess Miller is moving two Chinese corps North at the moment, probably more to come.

ouch, with the naval bombardment being totally pathetic, our bombers face a very intense flak defense over Darwin. Hit rate on the base was very good, unfortunately we didnīt really hit the airfield. At the end of the day we lose 7 bombers to flak (including 5 crews) but we also torch 46 enemy aircraft on the ground. Miller has stood down all his fighters on the map as he doesnīt want to face my sweeps, but he keeps aircraft on his fields in range of my bombers. A not that good combination.

those attacks on PM are just milkruns, Iīm thinking about attacking PM perhaps. On the other side, PM is no threat anyway and without carriers Miller canīt reinforce it...

TF 115 troops unloading over beach at Wallis Island, 93,107

Japanese ground losses:
274 casualties reported

Wallis island is big enough to build a level 5 airfield. We will take the island and build at least a level 4 airfield which then can support Canton Island and Pago Pago, both in torp and Zero range. Pago Pago will become a level 4 airfield tomorrow, this means the area around Canton will be far more deadly for an Allied attacker than it was during the last unsuccesful attempt to take Canton Island.

a third unit left Chungking and seems to be now heading North towards Sian. We wonīt be able to take the base before the enemy reinforcements arrive I guess.

I just looked in my game what ground forces are available in India in May-June, and while I won't give you a full intel on it (you could get it yourself if you mean to anyway), I just can't see how he could hope to keep you at bay after having sent a full UK Div in Burma.  Not with 4800 AV unloaded, and more coming in the near future, and seeing how he fared in China until now.  In his place, I'd retreat all the way to Karachi, to hold in the city with lvl9 forts and plenty of off-map supplies (and all the reinforcements coming from thin air)... and wait for '43-'44 before counter-attacking.

Could you show a screenshot of the units you brought ?  or a list ?

I have played the Allied often enough to know what they have to defend India in mid 42. Therefor I donīt understand it to move units to Burma (not even a single base force...) or to deploy the Royal Navy in the Pacific. At the moment there are nearly 5000 assault points and some 1700 still to come. All that could save India would be a sturdy and stubborn attack on the invasion TFs from day one.

Hereīs the screen of the units, there are more TK rgt, base forces and HQs further down the list. As you can see, the units there already sucked up more than half of the 75.000 tons of supply I have brought in. Iīm a little bit feeling like Rommel in Northern Africa, I have to soon capture supply from the enemy to keep the offensive going.

WOW! This attack shocked me, I nearly dropped off my chair! When this huge strike showed up coming from Madras I was already prepared to lose half of KB. My fighters did a good job downing more enemy aircraft than Iīve thought but I knew it was impossible to stop the medium bombers. Only half a dozen of the Wellingtons and the three Beauforts turned back and itīs like Iīve mentioned already, I see those Wellingtons as the major threat for my shipping in this area, even though in this attack theyīve only scored a single 500lb bomb hit on Fuso. Hudsons scored with a 250lb bomb on the BB. Unfortunately also a Swordfish managed to put a fish into Fuso, the ship isnīt in a state that itīs in danger to be lost. Thank god those Swordfish are the only bombers in Nikmod easy to down, out of three passes you down two of those old biplanes. Otherwise we would have been in serious trouble. Well, we were totally lucky this turn, all those bombers could have attacked KB and not a bomb prove BB TF.

For two days already I have had my Kates on nav/airfield attack (Madras) to keep the airfield closed but for what reason ever, they didnīt launch. Well, today I paid the price and it could have come far worse! This even more shows me that I have to seize Madras ASAP! Even then itīs not 100% secure to sail from Burma to India as there are still the airfields on Ceylon, but the major threat are the medium bombers at Madras.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese Ships
BB Yamato

Aircraft Attacking:
3 x Swordfish launching torpedoes at 200 feet

Another strike, this time against KB!!! I have to really thank the dice gods this time that only those three torp bombers tried to engage the carrier TF, this was pure luck. But this second attack really took a toll on my very high exp fighter pilots of KB (mostly around 90 exp!!). A second or third strike is poison for your Cap, in this case the fact that the Allied got the never ending bounce once again made it even worse. In total, we have lost 17 of our fighters, including S E V E N T E E N of our pilots! There are some 50 ships in this hex and we are fighting over "own territory" and still we lose 100% of the pilots. So, I canīt get it when people are telling me that they only lose 1/3 of their pilots over own territory or when they have a single laughable sub in the hex. Iīve lost 100% of the pilots today! For me, with my special edition of WITP, this is just a myth. Would I only lose 1/3 of the pilots, I would NEVER have a pilot shortage in 4 years of war I guess.

Well, we came away with a blue eye today! My last transport TF will have unloaded tomorrow night and all my ships are set to sail back to Rangoon for tomorrow. The troop transports are accompanied by two BB surface combat TFs and an ASW TF as well by my CVL/CVE TF. Some 90 Zeroes from Yanam will fly LRCAP over the empty troop convoys. I hope to see them 5 or 6 hexes away from Yanam tomorrow, this will mean a) no torpedo carrying bombers and b) no Hurricanes on escort. Hopefully the Wellingtons took a morale hit today that my Cap will drive them back and if we get lucky again, perhaps they will all attack my bomb prove BBs.

and here are the air losses of this bloody day! I guess we have destroyed some 250-300 aircraft since the start of the invasion while losing only a couple of dozen. But as this day showed again, if Miller would have kept attacking right from day one, who knows how many ships I would have lost already. Itīs impossible in Nikmod (and Iīm glad it is) to use KB as a vacuum cleaner against enemy airstrikes, the fragile fighters and carriers of KB canīt stand up against strikes coming from two or three airbases. Heck, it canīt even fight against this single level 4 airfield at Madras. Miller had at least a week to throw in the kitchen sink and launch strike after strike. Yesterday he did launch a strike but now my convoys are already heading back. He will have a small chance tomorrow to hit some emtpy transports but thatīs it then. Iīm not sure I will move in again before I have seized Madras. Of course I still have the option to use a dozen heavy cruisers to do a bombardment, Iīve already ordered a Dinah recon chutai to fly recon over Madras.

If you look at the aircraft losses, itīs interesting that weīve only took down three bombers with flak, even though this CV TF had an AA value of 5000!!! This is impressive for the Japanese and for this date but it still didnīt help at all. Also note that the attacker only lost a ridicoulos single bomber to ops even though we have damaged more than 60 attacking aircraft. Iīm losing bombers daily from flying two hexes to undefended targets at fine sunshine!

double ouch! We achieve a 1:1 this turn but the casualties are high, too high... while the enemy unfortunately didnīt suffer from my attack. My troops are nearing the state of combat ineffectivness at a high speed. Unfortunately we are in a hurry if we want to take this base before the enemy reinforcements are arriving from the South. I made a big mistake, I should have blocked the road from Chungking to Sian with 1000 assault points somewhere in the mountains. This would have been sufficient to cut the North off from being reinforced from Chungking. My bad...

as you can see, there werenīt any air attacks on my ships today! B I G M I S T A K E!!! I guess Miller sees his losses of yesterday as too big but IMO it was a MUST to keep on attacking. This turn all my shipping left Yanam and instead of following each other, they got totally dispersed over three hexes. This would have been the chance to hit a lot of my transports as most of them were totally helpless. Madras was empty again today, I guess Miller feared I would have stayed another day to bomb the airfield.

Well, I feared his airattacks more, so it was time to leave!

Miller has placed an Indian TK btn just behind the river next to Yanam! Why is he doing this? What does he thinks he can achieve? My 5000 assault points were ordered to march today, in two days most of those units will cross the river and itīs not worth the sacrifice of this TK btn.

I used to think this way too. But in my game with Moses, I became an "expert" at having my ground units pounded by his LBA and I finally figured out the "pattern". While the selection is "random" .. it is "random with a bias" ... and that "bias" is to go after the "best unit" in the stack. I was rotating my units at Akyab (I was Japanese and I was defending Akyab) and whenever the "new guy" showed up - he got about half the strikes for the next month - until he got pounded down to be as bad as the other units. One way I was able to "exploit" this knowledge, was to pair up a "flak" unit with some of the divisions in smaller stacks around Burma. The "flak" unit didn't do much "flakking" but by taking about 1 or 2 out of every 4 or 5 strikes, it absorbed more than its share of attacks, thereby keeping my Division intact for longer. Kind of a novel way of looking at flak unit utilization!

But no doubt one has to be very patient to pound down a big stack with LBA - but I can attest that it can be done. My divisions would eventually be ground down to about half their strength and then I would rotate them back to Rangoon to rebuild. Needless to say that was a multi-month process. But so was pounding them down. But Moses was the most patient player I've seen, he just kept hitting my stacks in Burma turn after turn, month after month. I cycled through thousands of IJA fighters distracting him away from bombing my troops, but eventually he realized ignoring my fighters and focusing strickly on the troops caused more lasting damage. It is just very hard to see this when thinking about things one turn at a time. But crippling the LCU is something that takes a long time to recover from.

Hi!

Thanks for your input, itīs very appreciated.

Unfortunately for me it is not the strongest unit that is attacked on and on. Not the strongest at all as you can see in my screenshot. Itīs one of the corps that was forced to retreat and is only about half in strenght compared to the well rested and 100% combat ready corps that are stationed at Sian. I used to think the same as the "common knowledge" on the forum about the best unit being target of A2G attacks but it soon turned out that this is just another "myth" (sorry if I donīt hit the right words, Iīm not a native speaker ) in MY special WITP edition.

I donīt want to wear down a unit with air attacks and I donīt expect to kill those 100.000 enemy troops at Sian with air attacks. But I do want to see more than one unit disrupted by those daily air attacks. Iīm happy with how the A2G attack works in WITP, disruption is surely bigger than the actual damage done but Iīm not happy with it attacking one single unit on and on. This way I have this unit probably 90% disrupted and nearly combat ineffective but that means that there 8 other units being 100% immune to my A2G attacks, which means my attacks are totally useless.

As you can see there are 5 units "better" than the one that is attacked on and on and on.

GOD DAMN!???! This is the first happening that made me pretty upset this turn. Hopefully AE has not just the new types of movements included but also the old broken movement types fixed. Unfortunately, the follow unit movement has been broken sometime when the ZOCs were included with a patch, since then, sometime it works, sometime not. Most times it doesnīt work when it would be important that it should work. I know how it is supposed to work, therefor I can say: IT DOESNīT!

Well, the reason my troops are still mostly at Yanam is the fact that first I have set them to follow the slowest unit North WEST into the hex where this Indin TK btn sits. What happened? After two days my units suddenly showed moving North EAST!!!!!!! even though the target hex was still the hex to the North WEST!

Okay, weīve lost two days, I ordered them again to move into the same hex, the travelled distance was immediately set to 0 again... Everything worked fine until today! Today two TK rgts crossed the river! Hell, whatīs going on? The slowest unit that was ordered to be the lead unit reset itself to defend this turn, two TK rgts crossed the river (and got SHREDDED!!) and the rest of my 4800 assault points is now at 75!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MILES... Isnīt it just laughable when a unit can move 75 miles when itīs a 60 mile hex? hey, those routines work really good...

I have again set them to march... for the third time... seems like Miller knows how borked the game movement is and it was a WISE decision to place this single TK btn there, not like I have thought that it would be a rather "unlucky" decision...

now there was another happening today that made me pretty unhappy. Those incidents are severe enough that it could make an operation like invading India a disaster. Today my combat and carrier TFs returned to Rangoon. So far so good. Well, they wanted to refuel. So far so good. Well, THERE WERE ONLY 35.000 FUEL LEFT!!!! Knowing that the game is dumb I didnīt unload the fuel there two weeks ago, but two DAYS ago to have it there as soon as my TFs would arrive. I brought over 150.000 fuel! And what is this stinking routine doing? Moving it out, dispersing it at places like Bangkok, Saigon, Camranh Bay and other empty bases! Very smart routine, very smart...

I have now the whole IJN combat force sitting at Rangoon without any fuel!

At least this is changed in AE, or is there only an adjustable supply level?

have moved out a cruiser TF to take position South of Madras as I have thought the big TF that was spotted could move there. Today, the big Allied troop convoy was spotted West of Ceylon, it looks like this TF is now heading towards Australia! Is this already an evacuation of troops in India? Would make sense if Miller really has written the subcontinent off, he could use those Indian troops out of Australia then. I could move out a couple of CVL/CVE to hunt them down, Iīm unsure if I could catch them though and my CVL/CVE are... well, out of fuel... but hey! Bangkok has 50.000+ fuel now, what a pity there isnīt a single ship there that needs fuel...

ouch again... it doesnīt seem that we can take the base early enough, losses on our side are just too high. I guess it would take another three attacks until the defense collapses and the Allied reinforcements are only 120 miles away. Means we will have to adopt our tactic here again, it wasnīt possible to do a blitzkrieg assault, we will now work on surrounding the base, cutting it off. This should be possible. Then we will face some 3000+ assault points in the town as there are 3 or 4 Chinese units coming North. We will see how long the supplies at Sian will last then.

Miller also has moved 5 units into the hex next to Chengting (the base SE of Yenen) but they are just sitting here. I guess he wants me to panic to bring reinforcements to Chengting but there are a couple of units there with a total av of around 800 behind level 9 forts and well supplied. Nothing he can achieve here.

news on the India front: our troops are moving at 7 miles a day out of Yanam, will take us months at this speed to get anywhere... in the meantime Miller is moving an Indian division (probably not a 100% strenght) into the hex where his TK btn is blocking the river crossing. Well, if the follow unit order works this time, then 4500 assault points will cross the river. Should be sufficient to kick the enemy out of the hex, even when we have to cross the river into a wooden hex.

we have also embarked the second wave of troops in Rangoon, the TFs will set sail within the next three days, we are only waiting to get a couple of small AKs being filled with supplies...

Castor,

i see that you are not having much luck with your ASW.  I have two questions if you would be so kind.

1. Do you still think it was worth it to hit manilla instead of pearl?

2. Are you flying a lot of air search with all of your land based float planes to try and detect his subs first?

Hi!

1. Yes, as my ASW seems to be doing exagerated bad it was even more important to hit Manila instead of Pearl Harbor on day one. Imagine that there would be two and a half dozen more subs around! This would be probably twice the number of subs Miller has now. I will never attack Pearl Harbour in PBEM on day one again.

2. Yes, all the SRA and nearly every spot around my bases in the Pacific is covered with float planes. Iīm not using the "Japanese medium bomber - sub vacuum cleaner tactic" though. I do have a couple of bombers on nav search 6000 ft but I guess I have not hit more than a couple of subs in the last 6 months. Itīs not the problem that I donīt spot the subs, I guess I spot 90% of them as soon as they are in areas I want to spot them. Itīs also not the problem that I donīt find them with my ASW TFs, the only problem is that my ASW TFs have been totally useless so far. I had never real Japanese ASW killer TFs but as bad as it is in this PBEM...

I can only be happy that there donīt seem to be a lot combat ready subs around at the moment, within the SRA there is NO sub at all and in the Pacific there are perhaps 3 around my bases now. Probably a dozen+ on transfer from and to their patrol areas.

unfortunately this time only 45% of my strike aircraft found Darwin, all were set to port attack as we have constantly spotted half a dozen ships there, reported as CA but I was sure that Miller uses Darwin as frontline base for a couple of subs. Well, we hit subs but the bombers focussed on ML Rigel. We lose 4 Sallies to flak and 2 to ops but ML Rigel and SS Porpoise are confirmed sunk so itīs an acceptable trade. S-46 will probably make it I guess. Rather careless to keep his subs at Darwin after seeing my bombers from Timor attack Darwinīs airfields earlier and with no Cap over the base.

Defending force 100997 troops, 495 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2849

Allied ground losses:
386 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

together with the air attacks, the enemy suffered nearly 850 casualties at Sian today. Would be great to keep up that level of attrition.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Chengting

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 35641 troops, 551 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 810

Defending force 40723 troops, 280 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1153

Allied ground losses:
58 casualties reported

so the enemy is now sitting with 4 corps at Chengting without having a chance to achieve something but the same is true for our troops. The biggest problem I see at the moment is the fact that those Chinese units now stopped the HI and resource center at this base from producing. Means some 500 supplies each day lost, of course also the HI and resources. The offensive on Sian has priority though. And if I were Miller, I would use those 4 fresh Corps to defend the surroundings of Sian, not trying to mount an "offensive" 400 miles further North East.

Ground combat at Myitkyina

Japanese Bombardment attack

Day Air attack on Colombo , at 14,24

Beaufighter VIF: 3 destroyed
P-40B Tomahawk: 13 destroyed

Yanam turned into a level 3 airfield yesterday and we launch a sweep against Colombo, which is the only base that seems to have fighters on Cap in India. Purpose of this sweep is to bring down the enemy fighter squadronīs morale to see them turn back when they will be escorting the inevitable attacks on my next wave of troops being shipped to India. Well, the sweep wasnīt unsuccesfully even though those numbers of high exp Zeroes lost is not something I can really afford. F2 Yamada daitai got bounced during a long phase and lost 10 Zeroes including the pilots. Haha, so much about the "myth" that a sub in the same hex saves you 1/3 of the downed pilots. Iīve got 2 subs at Colombo, not a single pilot was saved - 100% loss rate!

But that wasnīt the worst thing that happened this turn. I recognized a lot of my own troops at Rangoon and was shocked to see that two of the three TFs that left Rangoon three days ago have unloaded 80% of the troops again! God damn! All three TFs were set to "do not unload", destination was Yanam, home port Yanam. And still nearly 200 ships started unloading at Rangoon. God, this sucks. Due to the totally borked ship loading routine of this game, I had to create some 30 TFs to load one unit on each TF and then form them into three big TFs which took me about half an hour time. What is even worse though is the fact that it now takes my TFs two days to return, another one to load the troops, so I have again lost a WEEK! And not just do I need my troops in India, I also desperately need the next delivery of supply!

even though we achieve a 3,7:1 in A2A kills today, one elite daitai of Zeroes was wrecked, losing nearly half of itīs pilots. We canīt afford that.

Hereīs the current intelligence screen, havenīt posted one so far, thought that could be interesting:

Iīve seen more impressive results at this date of the war but weīre not doing bad I guess. In air losses I couldnīt do much better as itīs Nikmod and losses tend to be far smaller than stock and the fact that Miller is nearly not using his airforce at all at places I can oppose him.

He didnīt lose that many ships either, I have yet to spot a big TF somewhere in the Pacific, the only ones Iīve spotted were the invasion TFs at Midway and Canton Island. I have subs dispersed over the whole Pacific, they have spotted... nothing... The Allied have lost Repulse and POW as well as two US fleet carriers, which makes the Pacific pretty much safe for us and enabled us to mount the invasion of India as we donīt have to fear a counter attack in the Pacific for the next months.

The Allied ground losses are severe already, they will grow by a couple of thousand points I guess if we are able to achieve our goals in India and we may not forget that we are planning to kill of a couple of hundred thousand Chinese troops in the next 6 months.

All in all we have already a 5.4:1 lead in victory points, I expect this ratio to grow. If there wonīt be a wonder, we will achieve a decisive victory on 1/43. Autovictory is and never was the goal of any of my PBEMs and none of my operations was planned to achieve autovictory though. Needless to say that I expect the game to go on after the expected auto victory.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

We cross the river North West of Yanam with all troops available, except the two TK rgts that crossed the river a couple of days ago. The TK rgts were taken back to Yanam as I have feared them being attacked by the enemy and forced to retreat. This time the results are as expected as the full might of the invasion forces hits the Indian TK btn and the understrength (around 50%) Indian division. Both units retreat on the road to the West. We will now try to use our TK rgts to chase the enemy units to shock attack them back to Madras. Guess the enemy TKs will be too fast, we will have a chance to wreck the enemy inf division though.

What makes the situation a bit problematic already is our supply situation! I have brought 75.000 supplies with our first invasion wave and now that my troops have left Yanam, there are only 8.000 !!!!! supplies left! OMG, weīre already running out of supplies. At the moment my troops are fully supplied, the inf divisions have some 3.000 supplies each but weīre in desperate need of supplies! Therefor we will ship in another 70.000 supplies with our next wave which wonīt be available within the next 14 days I guess. Not good, weīre already in the situation I didnīt want to be: we need to seize supplies from the enemy.

After seeing that 75.000 supplies seem to be not sufficient to even supply the first wave of troops Iīve thought that you would need to bring some 150.000 supplies for an attack on India. Seeing the current supply situation, I would now say you need at least 250.000 supplies for an invasion and you will still be in need to capture enemy supplies or at least bases that produce a good amount of supplies each day.

A bad day for us...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 05/28/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Yanam , at 22,21

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 52

Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIb x 34
Blenheim IV x 3
Wellington III x 84
P-40B Tomahawk x 20

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 22 destroyed, 8 damaged
Ki-46-II Dinah: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane IIb: 10 destroyed, 14 damaged
Blenheim IV: 1 damaged
Wellington III: 1 destroyed, 31 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 5 destroyed, 10 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
204 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 11
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 57

Aircraft Attacking:
5 x Wellington III bombing at 6000 feet

thatīs the reason I call this day a bad day. Weīve got 4 high exp Zeroe daitais at Yanam, some 108 fighters set to 90% Cap to see 52 in the air, roughly 50%. Ok, thatīs not unusual and surely seems realistic. As a side note, as Japanese Iīve never been able to nearly achieve the Cap levels of the Allied which usually are around 90% or even 100% later in the game. Now the mod works good but as it is working good, it also increases the problems of the stock WITP engine as all those fighters that are not engaging the incoming strike are counted as grounded! Grounded means that most of them will be destroyed. And thatīs the point where I say the game engine is wrong. Not being able to engage the incoming strike does not necessarily mean grounded to be bombed by the enemy. No problem to see fighters destroyed on the ground, but not those numbers. IMO there should be far more in the air (not saying engaging the enemy) and not waiting on the ground to be destroyed. Out of the 56 Zeroes on the ground, 40 get torched... too many...

we shoot down 1 Wellington A2A, 2 are lost to flak... not many as 31!! were damaged. Of course, non was lost to ops as the enemyīs aircraft are far too durable. Weīre now running into the problem the Japanese have to face in Nikmod. The enemyīs bombers are far more dangerous than your own fighters, which means if you want to take down 1 enemy bomber, you will lose 10-15 of your fighters in that process. Not that they would be shot down A2A but they are destroyed on the ground as the Japanese is not able to get his fighters airborne when the enemy shows up.

Iīm amazed that it took Miller so long to find that out (while I donīt know if he found out already! ) that his bombers are so mighty, you just have to abandon every airfield in range, this is already true for this stage of the war. Miller must have some 150-200 4E bombers already, Iīve yet to see the first real 4E bomber strike. When I just look at Northern Australia, he could already lay waste to all my bases North of Darwin up to Kendari. He has enough 4E and 2E bombers, all that he lacks are his long range escorts. The only way to counter those nukes from the air are flak stacks, but Iīm not a fan of using half a dozen flak units in some jungle bases on Timor.

From my experience I know that the Tojo wonīt be any better for air defense when it comes to taking on Allied bombers, so thereīs no hope at all that we could deal with them the next 2 years until the Frank will be available. LOL! By that time the Allied will field hundreds of better long range fighters already.

Itīs 5/42 and weīre already aware of our desperate situation when it comes to fighting Allied bombers. And weīve only faced some 80 Wellingtons today!

what Miller also could have found out today is the fact that he would have lost far fewer aircraft if he had ordered this strike going in UNESCORTED. That way he would have probably lost 7-10 bombers, would have destroyed nearly the same number of fighters on the ground but would not have lost those 19 escorts! In Nikmod the Allied is normally far better off to send unescorted strikes than to send escorts, the bombers always get through without much losses and if their morale is low, then they turn back without much losses. This is only a problem if you want to fly ongoing attacks on a target which most often isnīt necessary.

needless to say that Miller was very amused about seeing his bombers torching 40 high exp Zeroes on the ground last turn... forgot to mention that Iīve lost also a dozen pilots, so much to the "you donīt lose pilots of torched ac on the ground myth".

my second wave of troops and the desperately needed supply for India has left Rangoon and is now heading to Yanam. Should arrive in the hot zone in the next 7 days... Miller did not attack Yanam today, perhaps he has stopped his attacks. Would be a BIG mistake if he doesnīt close this airfield as it would give me a place to fly in 150 Zeroes to fly LRCAP over my ships which would nearly double the available fighters that cover my ships. We will see...
