AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 06/03/42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Madras at 18,21 Japanese Ships DD Uzuki DD Satsuki DD Minazuki DD Kikuzuki DD Mikazuki DD Yuzuki Allied Ships PT PT-36 PT PT-37 PT PT-38, Shell hits 4, and is sunk PT PT-40 Hereīs the Royal Navy, defending the most important part of India! Seriously, I do see those four PTs as a major threat to my ships. They of coures wonīt sink KB and all my BBs in the area, but they can put a torpedo into one of my BB/CA that tries to bombard a base, will slow the ship down and put the whole TF into torpedo carrying swordfish range that then sinks a cruiser or two or even some BBs... been there, done that... and in fact, this encounters started as bad as it could be, my TF was surprised by the enemy! With complete luck on my side, three of the four PTs fired their torps but missed! Phewww! In return, only one was sunk after the surprise phase. I hate the buggers, normally I trade a DD sunk and one or two damaged for one TF of 6 PTs destroyed... we want to clear the way for a cruiser TF that is going in next turn to do a bombardment. All my TFs are spotted so I guess Miller will be smart enough to figure out that this TF six hexes away from Madras is a bombardement TF and there probably wonīt be any aircraft at Madras and thatīs ok with me. No aircraft there, no attacks on my ships! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack at 23,26 Japanese Ships PG Uji PG Akitsu Maru PG Aso Maru PG Chitose Maru PG Chiyo Maru PG Chohakusan Maru AP Miyadono Maru AP Senkai Maru AK Goyo Maru AK Sinkoku Maru AK Tagonoura Maru Allied Ships SS Trusty, hits 1 Trusty receives a near miss and is later in the day hit by a Val on nav search. This is the only sub near my TFs... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Manila , at 43,52 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 114 D3A Val x 36 B5N Kate x 5 G4M1 Betty x 26 Ki-27 Nate x 47 Ki-43-Ic Oscar x 152 Ki-46-II Dinah x 3 No Japanese losses Allied ground losses: 41 casualties reported Airbase hits 7 Airbase supply hits 2 Runway hits 109 Port hits 1 Port supply hits 1 Aircraft Attacking: 10 x Ki-43-Ic Oscar bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on 101st PA Division, at 41,61 Japanese aircraft Ki-21 Sally x 13 Ki-49 Helen x 15 Japanese aircraft losses Ki-49 Helen: 1 damaged Allied ground losses: 35 casualties reported Aircraft Attacking: 13 x Ki-21 Sally bombing at 16000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But today, there are still bombers at Madras and a nail biting session begins again... Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 168 Allied aircraft Blenheim IV x 7 Wellington III x 44 P-40B Tomahawk x 9 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 36 damaged Allied aircraft losses Blenheim IV: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged Wellington III: 7 destroyed, 30 damaged P-40B Tomahawk: 7 destroyed Japanese Ships AP Yuzan Maru AP Bokuyo Maru AP Seizan Maru AP Yamakuni Maru Aircraft Attacking: 1 x Wellington III bombing at 6000 feet this is a strike into KBīs hex and when the strike came in from Madras I was sure it would be targetting my carriers. In the end it turned out we were again lucky (must be my lucky weeks at the moment!) and this strike went after a troop transport TF. At the beginning of my invasion weeks ago, Miller missed the right time to attack my ships and he was too late. Well, this time, when my second wave goes in, he is too EARLY! I knew that his Hurricanes have only a range of 5 hexes so Iīve placed my TFs six and seven hexes away from Madras on their way to Yanam and the first strike from Madras comes in from S E V E N hexes, without Hurricanes, only with a couple of AVG Tomahawks that were very low on morale and turned around quickly! So my plan worked, I would have suggested Miller to set all his bombers to nav attack 5 hexes, Iīm glad he didnīt! What was also impressing is the number of Zeroes on Cap, another bit of my plan seemed to work as I switched out my carriers within KB. Iīve replaced some big fleet carriers with smaller ones as this brings me more fighters in total as the small carriers nearly carry as many Zeroes but no Vals and I canīt put all my carriers into one hex due to our stacking rule. This was the best way I was able to think about to give my ships some aircover and it seemed to work. And still, pass after pass on the enemy bombers, they refused to go down and the longer the engagement lasted, the more I became nervous! The bombers had still a pretty good morale and it took dozens of attacks until I saw them slowly turning back. The Allied bomber attacks on Yanam earlier are the major factor here, without those attacks I guess two dozen more bombers would have broke through my Cap. In the end, only 6 bombers release their bombs over some transports but all miss. YES! At this point I was pretty sure the reinforcement of my India adventure will become a success as those bomber squadrons wonīt be able to fly concentrated attacks in the next days. Want to point out again how well the mod works! Imagine stock, those 168 Zeroes would have shot down EVERY attacking bomber, here there isnīt even a dozen shot down. Perhaps a tad too few but I prefer a tad too few than 5 times too many. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 168 Allied aircraft Wellington III x 3 P-40B Tomahawk x 3 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged Allied aircraft losses Wellington III: 1 damaged P-40B Tomahawk: 2 destroyed even though I have only 6 TFs in the hex with KB, a lot of small dispersed strikes followed... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 168 Allied aircraft Wellington III x 3 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 4 damaged Allied aircraft losses Wellington III: 2 destroyed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 168 Allied aircraft Buffalo I x 2 Wellington III x 3 P-40B Tomahawk x 3 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged Allied aircraft losses Buffalo I: 2 destroyed Wellington III: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged P-40B Tomahawk: 3 damaged my Cap got tired and every attack more will become more dangerous. Glad that the strikes are very small but a lucky bomber could still manage to put a bomb into one of my carriers so we have to be carefully... All bombers turn back or are shot down... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 167 Allied aircraft Wellington III x 3 No Japanese losses Allied aircraft losses Wellington III: 3 damaged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 22,25 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 73 Allied aircraft Blenheim IV x 3 No Japanese losses Allied aircraft losses Blenheim IV: 2 damaged Leaking Cap to my cruiser TF one hex to the North West. Nearly half of my Cap is leaking away - not good... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 81 Allied aircraft Wellington III x 3 Japanese aircraft losses A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged Allied aircraft losses Wellington III: 2 damaged the next strike then attacked into KBīs hex again, meeting nearly 90 fighters less. Luckily, the enemy canīt launch a major strike anymore... bombers turn back again... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 23,26 Japanese aircraft A6M2 Zero x 81 Allied aircraft Wellington III x 3 No Japanese losses Allied aircraft losses Wellington III: 2 damaged -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 22,25 Allied aircraft Buffalo I x 12 Blenheim IV x 2 Wellington III x 10 Allied aircraft losses Wellington III: 2 damaged Japanese Ships CA Haguro CA Chikuma, Bomb hits 1 DD Arashio CA Nachi Aircraft Attacking: 3 x Wellington III bombing at 6000 feet 2 x Blenheim IV bombing at 6000 feet this is the only afternoon strike, this time on my cruiser TF that is ordered to bombard Madras tomorrow night. No leaking Cap and a Wellington puts a 500lb bomb into heavy cruiser Chikuma that canīt penetrate the deck armor but takes out the two center gun mounts with 4x8 inch guns. Chikuma lost half of her main armament and shows now 4 fires... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Sian Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 14121 troops, 450 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 3555 Defending force 122067 troops, 779 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 3586 Allied ground losses: 425 casualties reported Guns lost 1 will be a loooong bloody battle at Sian.
