After being heavily hit during a naval engagement with IJN cruisers at Koepang, the British heavy cruiser Devonshire was sunk by a Japanese sub operating near Darwin! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

KENT-Class Cruiser ordered from HM Dockyard, Devonport on 12th October 1925 and laid down on 10th March 1926. The ship was launched on 22nd October 1927 and was the 7th RN ship to bear this name, introduced in 1692 for a 3rd Rate. The last ship to bear the name was a Cruiser built in 1904 and sold in 1921.Build was completed on 18th March 1929 and the ship then was deployed in the Mediterranean Fleet with the 1st Cruiser Squadron. Her pre-war service was marred by soon after joining the Squadron when an explosion in one of the 8in turrets during gunnery firings in the Aegean killed 17 of the ship’s company. She was paid off and re-commissioned in October 1931 after repair. Following a WARSHIP WEEK National Savings Campaign in March 1942 this ship was adopted by the civil community of Torquay. Devonshire. Ships of this name have also established a firm relationship with the County which has been maintained since WW2.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/12/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack at 33,73

Japanese Ships
APD APD-38
APD APD-36
APD APD-35
APD APD-33
APD APD-32
APD APD-31

Allied Ships
SS KXV

a pity none of the APDs dropped DCs even though two engaged the sub...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 99 encounters mine field at Lautem (33,78)

Japanese Ships
CA Atago, Mine hits 1
DD Isokaze, Mine hits 1, on fire

this is getting more than stupid! How dumb can a game design be? So far, a dozen ships have hit my own minefield. My own mines have done far more severe damage to my ships than it did to the enemy...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat, near Lautem at 33,78

Japanese Ships
CA Chikuma
CA Atago
DD Maikaze
DD Isokaze, on fire
DD Shiranuhi
DD Tanikaze

Allied Ships
DD Kane, Shell hits 17, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
DD Rathburne, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
AK Arkansan
AK Californian
AK San Rafael
AK West Planter, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK American Leader, on fire, heavy damage
AK City of Dalhart, Shell hits 5, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
AK City of Elwood
AK Nightingale
AK Potter, Shell hits 17, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AK Sage Brush
AK Timber Rush, on fire
AK John C. Fremont

Iīm amazed that we attack the supply convoy first and not the PTs that are guarding the base also...

DD Shiranuhi, Shell hits 2, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
DD Tanikaze

Allied Ships
PT PT-82
PT PT-83
PT PT-123

Iīve said it a hundred times, no I guess a thousand times already, PTs WITP are so overrated itīs normally not even worth a comment...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat, near Lautem at 33,78

Japanese Ships
CA Chikuma
CA Atago
DD Maikaze
DD Isokaze, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Shiranuhi, Shell hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Tanikaze, Shell hits 4, on fire

Allied Ships
PT PT-79
PT PT-80
PT PT-81

another good example... while people still claim that they lose only one DD for a hundred PTs sunk, Iīve experienced it completely different in over 3-4000 PBEM turns...

the most ridicoulos sidenote here: Japanese forces surprise Allied TF! Result: we lose two DDs today for not a single PT even hit... My "limited" game experience is that you lose one DD for three PTs sunk while you have at least two DDs damaged by the mighty cal .50 and 20mm Oerlikon guns on the PTs... those guns damage your DDs to an extend that they are slowing that much down that they then can be finished by LBA. So I would say you lose at least 1,5 DDs for 1 PT sunk... lol

we just have to keep on attacking the supply convoy to Lautern, no matter how many aircraft we lose! We still take down more Allied fighters than we lose but we trade 80+ exp pilots for Allied 50+ exp pilots... and thatīs a bad trade if we only achieve such kill rates... needless to comment the never ending Allied bounce...

as usual, the second strike on a Cap is totally killing them... this is another strange game feature that I will never understand... that a Cap isnīt as good during a follow up strike, ok, but the difference in WITP is 5000 %...

We kill more enemy ac than we lose but we can not afford those losses in the long run... itīs just like Iīve said earlier, Lautern will wreck my Navy and my Airforce and thereīs nothing I can do about it.

My own minefield (some 1000 mines left I guess) is hitting me EVERYTIME Iīm moving ships into the hex... nothing I can do about it, just a stupid game feature, or bad game design however you would like to call it. Then there are the PTs that kill my ships at a rate that is unaffordable. So, conclusion: impossible to send surface combat TFs to the base. I guess Iīve learnt that with the couple of attempts now...

So what to do? Ok, letīs use the airforce! We can use the bombers to attack shipping and at least the IJN bombers do a very good job doing that! Also the IJN fighters are doing their best against Allied land based fighters on Lautern. But what about attacking the base? Impossible and not worth the losses I guess. The Allied usually get a very high % of their fighters into the air so my bombers wonīt hit much on the ground and at what alt should they attack? Allied flak will make the base immune to my airattacks. At the moment I have to fly nav attacks but soon I will swap out the IJN bombers with IJA bombers but we will only achieve a couple of dozen hits from 16.000 ft at best while losing dozens of bombers to flak and ops. With their eng vehicles, the Allied will repair the damage done within one turn.

Hmmm, desperate situation... and you know what will happen when the Allied will have unloaded enough supplies at this base... starting an unescorted bombing campaign with at least 200 bombers, would leave room for 100 fighters on Cap...

OOOooo...

Iīm really losing the mood to play at the moment, Nikmod makes you feel in late 42 how you should feel in 44 as the Japanese...

the start of a ridicoulos Nikmod day... with all my Nikmod campaigns I just should know better...

undestructable Allied bombers in Nikmod coupled with the game feature of fighters not even taking off we suffer extremly again today.... 150 fighters at the base, set to 80% Cap, 60 fighters in the air -> thatīs not even 50%... this is becoming absurd, so absurd that you have to ask yourself why playing... would the bombers have achieved the usual 100 runway hits I would have lost 80 fighters here alone...

Airbase hits 12

Aircraft Attacking:
6 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 12000 feet

this is super lol! Nearly 200 fighters at Amboina (level 4 airfield, so not more possible), set to 70% Cap and we see 55 fighters in the air! God how this game works is beyond me...

now this is the best example of how the game will go on with the super duper immune bombers... 3 B-17 shot down! Sorry Nik, but this is ridicoulos! If I would transfer 132 high exp IJA bombers to another base, I would suffer more bombers lost than those bombers did here when 83 are damaged, flying at MAX range!!!

This turn brings me into a mood that I would just like to wait for my autovictory popping up and then admit MY defeat and surrender on 1/43 as I just canīt see a reason to play. Stock is absolutely depressing or the Japanese from late 43 on but no matter how you suffer against escorted strikes or Corsairs on Cap, you at least have a chance against UNESCORTED bomber strikes... In Nikmod you donīt even have a chance against those unescorted strikes in MID 42...

Iīm depressed. We lose 53 figthers on the ground and the enemy loses 15 bombers a2a would the bombers have achieve more hits, I would have lost AT LEAST 100 fighters on the ground, for the same number of bombers shot down... keep on laughing folks!

"Good" news: the Tojo factories started producing the new IJA fighter today. With nearly 300 factories, we were able to get the aircraft exactly 1,5 months earlier. In two weeks we will see the first Tojos in action but from my experience having it available in other games, it wonīt make much difference. The bombers canīt be stopped, they canīt be really hurt and you will lose most of your fighters on the ground because they donīt even take off...

Another all out strike! Miller hasnīt had Cap over Darwin for at least two weeks. I know for sure that there are his damaged cruisers and as long as we have been flying recon with Dinah IIs we also got recon about his BBs still being there. I havenīt spotted his BBs moving out so Iīm really wondering if they are still there. All in all, we get recon of over 100 ships at Darwin waiting to get bombed! I thought Miller would have learnt his lesson when I bombed his carriers in port at Wyndham where he didnīt have enough fighters on Cap, now he has no fighters at all at Darwin!

But with my experience so far I know that Miller takes a look at all my airbases at the front every day and he every day immediately can see if I have bombers at a base or fighters or whatever. So the fact that he will see during his next order phase that I have moved 100 bombers to Amboina and that there are only bombers at Kendari I guess he would be able to figure out what Iīm up to. I wouldnīt be surprised if he would have 200 fighters on Cap tomorrow. The only thing responsible for that would be the wonderful game design...

We will see! The plan is nearly the same like it was when we stroke Wyndham (and had a pathetic hit rate with over 300 bomber). First, KB should launch a sweep, fighters set to 50% Cap, would mean we could see some 100 fighters over Darwin. Then Amboina should launch 100 fighters, 100 bombers and finally Kendari should launch 300 bombers! I will have ALL Betties/Nells attacking tomorrow. There isnīt a single IJN long range torpedo bomber elsewhere on the map!!!

At all my important hexes the weather forecast is overcast tomorrow so we hope to launch all strikes as ordered! But as always, everything can go wrong of course.

Let me think about a major disaster: Out of a sudden, Darwin has suddenly 200 fighters in the air on Cap, KB is clouded in in the morning as is Amboina. Kendari isnīt and launches 300 fragile IJN bombers into 200 Allied fighters. 100 are shot down A2A, they donīt turn back and another 50 are lost to flak. They hit... nothing... Then Lautern launches 120 bombers against KB, the Cap of 100 fighters of course canīt stop them at all and the Wellingtons put a dozen bombs into my carriers and damage a big number of my figthers. Then in the PM phase KB launches a couple of the remaining fighters and they get trashed by still 180 Allied fighters over Darwin, the attack of 100+ 4Es on KB achies another dozen hits and two carriers are in sinking condition already. Then Amboina launches itīs strike but 90% of the fighters and 30% of the bombers fail to locate the target. The 10 fighters and 70 bombers arriving over Darwin get shot to pieces by still 150 Allied fighters in the air...

You see, a lot can go wrong tomorrow and it mostly depends on the fact if Miller suddenly and for the first time in the last weeks has fighters at Darwin...

I can say that Miller was lucky and unlucky in this turn...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 09/15/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 1026 encounters mine field at Darwin (36,84)

Allied Ships
PT PT-119, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 14,85

Japanese Ships
SS I-166, hits 10

Allied Ships
CV Indomitable, heavy damage
DD Inconstant
DD Jupiter

This is when he definetely was lucky! I-166 unfortunately fired only a salvo of two torps from her rear tubes instead of trying to attack with the four front tubes... the torps missed the heavily damaged British CV! That would have been great to put two torps into the carrier! In return, the two British DDs achieve 10 near misses, I-166 is out of action and has to retire to Japan for major repairs... sys damage nearly at 30...

This is half a dozen hexes West of Broome, so Miller is now trying to move his damaged ships around Australiaīs West coast... all our subs have been ordered into attack position to hunt down this TF!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 30,78

Port fuel hits 1
Port supply hits 1

Aircraft Attacking:
25 x G3M Nell launching torpedoes at 200 feet
18 x G4M1 Betty bombing at 10000 feet

and here comes the strike from Amboina, exactly like it was ordered! At this stage it was obvious that the dozen BBs have already left the area. It seems they are not even in Northern Australia anymore. But the British cruisers that were damaged at Lautern are and our first attack hits them hard. Not as hard as I wished but letīs hope for the second strike. With so many ships in port our strike gets too much dispersed but so far Iīm happy with it. Even though there are a dozen Allied units at Darwin, flak is far from being strong and THATīS a surprise for me. Over Wyndham Iīve lost over 50 bombers to flak!

It couldnīt go better and also the strike from Kendari shows up in full strenght and exactly as ordered! Unbelievable that everything has gone off like we planned it! Looks like thinking about what all could go wrong brought us luck this time... Our hits are dispersed over a lot of ships again and perhaps you could wish some more hits from more than 270 bombers but this is not the time to complain I guess.

At the end of the turn we get two confirmed sinkings: CA Cornwall and DD Van Nes! I hope to see CA Dorsetshire sinking also and if weīre lucky one of the CLs could sink also. You could expect to see more ships being sunk with two such strong strikes but with the heavy cruiser our sub sunk North of Darwin and two more perhaps going down I will be satisfied for the moment.

This strike should achieve one more thing: Miller has to put a lot of fighters at his airfield! This should have shown him that he has to protect his bases against long range strikes of my IJN bombers. And if he puts 100 or more fighters at a base, he has 100 or more bombers less at a base and this is what we want. We can perhaps deal with strikes of 100-125 bombers, but repeated strikes of 500-600 bombers will break our neck.

We achieved an "ok-result" and we really suffered very low losses and this is what surprised me the most. KB wasnīt spotted the whole turn and this was luck for us also.

Japanese Ships
SS I-158, hits 3

Allied Ships
CLAA Capetown, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
DD Inconstant
DD Jupiter
DD Griffin
DD Hotspur

This is the TF with CV Indomitable. I-158 also attacks with her two rear tubes but the skipper proves to be a man who knows what heīs doing. Both torpedoes slammed into the already damaged CLAA Capetown and the AA-cruiser sinks within minutes. The angry DDs drop a lot of DCs but they achieve only three near misses. I-158 continues with sys 9 to take part in the hunt for CV Indomitable.

I really have to say that my subs perform excellently! Weīre still early in the war but they have achieved some major sinkings and also a lot of hits on lower value ships for nearly no losses within our submarine force...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack at 34,80

Japanese Ships
SS RO-68

Allied Ships
AK West Nilus, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

with Timor being so close to my bases, this is a really good place to use those otherwise useless short legged RO-class subs... the already damaged West Nilus takes a torp but still doesnīt show up as heavily damaged...

Japanese IJN bombers attacked Darwin and sunk the British heavy cruiser CA Cornwall in port! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

KENT-Class Cruiser ordered from HM Dockyard, Devonport on 2nd June 1924 and laid down on 9th October that year. The ship was launched on 11th March 1926 and was the 6th RN ship to bear this name, introduced in 1692 for a 3rd Rate. The last ship to bear the name was a Cruiser built in 1902 and sold in 1920. Build was completed on 10th May 1928 at a cost of Ģ1,252,110. She was then deployed on the China Station with the 5th Cruiser Squadron until return to UK for a major refit in 1936. On completion she served in Home waters in the 2nd Cruiser Squadron and used for training of boy seamen. In March 1939 this ship recommissioned for further service on the China Station where she was deployed in September 1939. She had a well established relationship with the county whose name she carried and this has continued until the present with the 7th ship.

Everything going according to plan ?  That's a first !  Well done !

Off course, many of those damaged ships are not in danger of sinking, but there're still some bright news : four DMS, an AR, a dozen AP, a dozen DD, an ML, four CL, and the two CA !  This should slow him down.  And if you have enough subs to hunt the ships when they're moved to rear bases...

thanks guys! It surely wasnīt a decisive strike but like at Wyndham we damaged important Allied shipping, this time we even got some sinkings and this time we did this without suffering horrendous losses. Millerīs ignorance of the Japanese ability to strike at long range with torps and heavy bombs made this possible. While it was somewhat understandable that he didnīt expect such a strike at Wyndham, he could have expected it at Darwin now. Seems he didnīt learn his lesson!

Small morale boost for us and a morale hit for Miller and it seems this could help us as he stated in one of his last emails that he shouldnīt have attacked before 43 at all!

Iīm still thinking that his move on Timor could be the war winning move if he keeps up the pressure and tries to exploit his position without thinking about losses. The three damaged British CVs will buy us some time, I canīt see a major operation anywhere with only two US CVs at the moment. I guess the damaged US fleet carrier will be back in a couple of months and the British will show up mid 43 again. Mid 43 is the time to say good bye for me anyway, there wonīt be much of a chance to stop the Allied.

There is only one way to slow them down, kill his ships! No matter how many ac you destroy, no matter how many ground units you destroy, no matter how much ground you take, the key to slow the Allied down is to destroy as much shipping as possible. Letīs see if this will be something we can achieve.

Japanese intelligence reported the sinking of the British heavy cruiser CA Dorsetshire in port at Darwin, a victim of the IJNīs succesful long range strike at shipping and port facilities of the Alliedīs major naval base in Northern Australia. With the British heavy cruisers Devonshire and Cornwal, CA Dorsetshire is the third heavy cruiser the British lost in the Timor area! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

"DORSETSHIRE" Class cruiser ordered from HM Dockyard Portsmouth in the 1927-8 Estimates and laid down in September 1927. She was launched on 29th January 1929 as the 3rd RN ship to bear this name introduced in 1694 and previously been used in 1757 for a 3rd Rate ship. Build completion date was 30th September 1929. She was serving with the 5th Cruiser Squadron on the China Station in 1939.

After suffering heavy damage from bombs and torpedoes also the Dutch light cruiser Sumatra capsized and sunk in port of Darwin! Several more Allied light and heavy cruisers are reported still being on fire! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

Java-class cruisers

These cruisers were meant to become the backbone of the cruiser weapon in the Dutch Indies. The greatly resembled the German battlecruisers of the same era, which was not remarkable as the German Germaniawerft produced the design. The ships were fitted with 10 x 5.9 inch guns behind shields, sufficient to counter their designed opponents, the Japanese reconnaissance cruisers of 1912. The idea was that they would clear the seas of light forces, so the submarines could attack enemy invasion convoys and capital ships.

Due to various reasons, they were completed long after the projected date, and by that time, not a navy in the world had their guns mounted behind shields. Two cruisers were built, the Java and Sumatra, and a third was planned, the Celebes. The latter was slightly bigger as she was planned as the flagship of the Commander of the NEI squadron, but she was never completed. Only 30 tons of material had been prepared before the contract was cancelled. She would have been 155 tons larger and 3 metres longer. The Sumatra especially had to overcome great difficulties with her machinery. By WW II, most of the problems had been solved, but she wasn't really suited for frontline duty anymore.

Miller gets his pilot training programme fully running now. As long as he loses half a dozen ac every turn I guess I can live with it. Especially as it will take months if not a year or longer until I have to face those trained up pilots over vital areas I want to defend. As long as the Allied canīt break out of Karachi, they canīt harm me with their airforce... but still, with two AA rgts and a special base force, I would like more fighters being downed...

After my strike on Darwinīs port, it looks like Miller wanted revenche and moved 200+ bombers to Lautern to attack Kendari. While he has showed perfect timing during the whole campaign so far, this time his timing wasnīt that good as he attacks exactly the day when KB returned to Kendari. This had two major consequences: a) all those Zeroes are flying from the carriers and b) I get nearly ALL my fighters into the air attacking the incoming raid as KB has 7 Yugumo class DDs as escorts and all those DDs have air search radar!!! And those radar sets made it possible to scramble such high numbers of fighters to shred the incoming strike. A lot of bombers were shot down, the rest turned back. With the 100 Oscars I could expect without KB in the hex, this strike would have surely made it to itīs target.

We had 5 sentais of Oscars (180 fighters) at the base, all set to 80% Cap and we see 158 in the air which is 87,78%!!!

Just give me radar and I can fight the Allied unescorted bombers as we then wouldnīt lose 50% of our fighters on the ground all the time!

We have ordered our IJN bombers out of the base and moved 100+ IJA bombers to Kendari to strike Lauternīs airfield to hopefully torch a couple of damaged Allied bombers on the ground there. We will then also see how the flak defense of the base looks like. Miller is using hundreds of Dakotas to move units to Lautern, probably base forces, as the number of units at the base is growing...

LB-30 Liberator: 2 destroyed, 21 damaged

Not surprising, also the heavy bombers from Darwin were ordered to attack Kendari! While we had a lot of damaged fighters sitting on the ground, we nevertheless managed to put 200+ into the air again to meet the undestructable masterpieces of Allied aircraft production! Only very few of the Allied monster bomber were lost immediately, but while the Allied pilots are flying the best bomber you could imagine, their spirit of fighting is just poor and all heavy bomber turn back.

After the succesful strike on Darwin just two days ago, this is the next small victory in the fight North of Australia. But this should not distract us from being convinced that the Allied will soon have the upper hand in this area...

When looking at the heavy bomber losses, I can only shake my head again. But we destroyed two months of B-26 replacements today! And we have upgraded the first Oscar sentai to Tojos today.

HMS Colombo was twice succesfully attacked by IJN submarine I-157 and sunk 600 miles West of Broome! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI!

“CAPETOWN” Class Cruiser ordered from Fairfield at Govan in July 1917 and laid down on 8th December 1917. The ship was launched on 18th December 1918 and was the 1st RN ship to bear this name. Build was completed on 18th June 1919 and she commissioned for foreign service. Until 1935 she was deployed in the East Indies, America and West Indies Stations and in the Mediterranean. She was deployed as Senior Officer’s ship in Chatham Reserve Fleet in 1936. The ship was recommissioned in 1939 and took up war station at Gibraltar before war was declared with Germany on 3rd September. Following a WARSHIP WEEK National Savings Campaign in March 1942 this ship was adopted by the civil community of Salford, then in the county of Lancashire.

guess the AKs were already damaged as they show up as heavily damaged now. Normally a Japanese mine isnīt strong enough to heavily damage a big AK, even though the sub laid type 88 mine is the strongest of the three mine types...

Aircraft Attacking:

the Hurricanes attacking at Calcutta face only one AA rgt, so there is not even 1/3 of the flak like at Malir and they suffer far more. Do you want to know why? Because the fighters at Malir attack the airfield and the fighter bombers at Calcutta attack a ground unit. If ac attack a ground unit they suffer at least 4-5 times more from flak. Why this is so? I donīt know... ask the designers of this masterpiece

Miller starts ground attacks against units - there are only two - at Dili! And what was more or less shocking today was the fact that a TK btn moved out of Lautern towards Dili and is now in the hex with my units that had to retreat out of Lautern. Has Miller set his troops to march towards Dili??? It will surely take at least another month to see his first unit arriving there but it looks like we have to do something about that...

13 x LB-30 Liberator bombing at 12000 feet
11 x B-17E Fortress bombing at 12000 feet

so what? This strike came from Lautern, we have 185 fighters at Maumere, set to 80% Cap. Would give us a max of 148 fighters in the air. We get 71 fighters into the air even though we have a radar equipped Yugumo class DD at the base. Seems like one radar set helps nothing... we get a Cap rating of 38,4% today! Thatīs the game design and has nothing to do with the mod. But like mentioned earlier, the mod doubles, or tripples the game weakness of the fighters not even taking off as the bombers are like B-52 that meet WWII fighters. Lol! Sorry Nik, have you ever played your own mod? This is quite laughable! We have 71 fighters in the air and they manage to take 1!!!! ONE bomber down during the replay! Is this a joke?

Itīs a week ago when those squadrons were completely shot up and now they return in full strenght already, so giving them a super high durability has made them immune to everything but they are still as easily available for strikes as in stock. This result today is even more off than the exaggerated bloody stock encounters! Morale wasnīt a big problem for those bombers either as only half of them turned back! Remember, they were totally shot up a week ago!

Sorry, I can only shake my head and seriously asking AGAIN why I even play on. 38% Cap rate and O N E bomber being shot down during the replay by 70+ fighters!

Aircraft Attacking:
14 x B-25C Mitchell bombing at 12000 feet

a flak defense better than Tokyo had it but the super durable Allied bombers donīt have to care...

Iīm serious about the fact that this is for sure my last Nikmod 9.x campaign, itīs creating the same total off results like stock, only the other way around when unescorted bombers are the UBER weapon - ALLIED unescorted bombers. I prefer seeing the slaughters of unescorted bombers in stock than seeing 70+ fighters not even taking down 3 bombers. Iīm hoping that itīs the last WITP campaign anyway but how long do we have to wait for AE to come out? And then how long will it take to see the first three patches that will surely be needed to make it playable?

Hi, it's been a busy day, many reports to read.  Congrats on the sinkings, but are you sure it's CL Sumatra whose photo you've shown ?  Wiki (I know, but they have references in this case) has the same one for Java... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Awm_045393_HNLMS_Java.jpg

I know itīs Java, thatīs why there is also the description of the Java class. I found the pic Q-Ball posted but it was only very small and enlarging it didnīt really work. Posting pics of ships other than RN or USN is often more work for me than itīs worth it, Iīm just too lazy to surf around two hours to find a pic of an obsolete Dutch cruiser!

But you are both correct, it was Java and not Sumatra! I guess there wasnīt a doubt for a second that the people here on the forum will identify the pic as wrong!

Heck, I once again prove to have a real sh*ty timing. I set my bombers to airfield attack this turn when I could have needed them resting to attack the convoy at Lautern tomorrow...

BUT, what about this super duper Allied feature? Yesterday, we have damaged 136 bombers coming from Lautern! How many of them are at Lautern today? How many ac do we destroy on the ground today? Seems like Miller was able to switch out all damaged bombers with undamaged fighters! And how many does he need to see 166 fighters in the air? So.... if there are still 136 damaged bombers on the ground (there should be even more) and he can put a maximum of 300 ac on Lauters airfield then this means he had 100% of his fighters airborne to meet my incoming strike!

This is getting really ridicoulos when I get a Cap of 38% in the air yesterday and the Allied get a Cap of 100% in the air all the time. What else is strange? Hmmm... the usual things just as always! The Allied fighters bounced us 100% of the engagement! Seriously, Iīve bitched about the bounce on and on in WITP and I know itīs "fixed" in AE but this attack just cost me 50 KB Zeroes. And hey, whereīs this super duper myth that you lose only 50% of your pilots when you have a sub in the hex? Lol, never seen this in 3000 PBEM turns. Not a single time. Today, we have lost 94% of the pilots of the Zeros shot down.

With the bounce and the numerical superiority (mainly due to the bounce) the Allied 55 exp fighter pilots shot down 50 KB pilots with an average exp of 85... lol, this has just wrecked 1/3 of my carrier based fighter daitais. And of course we donīt achieve any countable result regarding hits on the airfield when we send in 88 Helen with 80+ exp crews...

our 85+ exp Zeroes achieve a 1,5:1 kill rate against the low exp Allied figthers... why? The only reason is the all mighty Allied radar...

Aircraft Attacking:

and then, not surprising, the second strike kills the enemy fighters at an absurd kill rate... multiple strikes in WITP? Lol... 23 hits on the runway and once again I wonder where have all the damaged bombers gone?

Kill rate of 48:1...

like Iīve said, unfortunately my bombers are really fatigued now but I have nevertheless set 300 IJA/IJN bombers on nav attack tomorrow... we want to kill ships, this is the main task for my airforce and I donīt care about how many ac and pilots I will lose...

as this turn has perfectly shown again, Iīm just stupid if I order an attack on an enemy airbase...

The enemy TF that was heading towards Lautern turned back after the Allied have lost the majority of their fighters in the area. What was also once again more than amazing is the fact that Millerīs airfield at Lautern is EMPTY now... where are all those damaged ac going to...

Miller sent a supply convoy, didn't he ?  If so, maybe he loaded the damaged planes on the empty AKs and sent them back.

Regarding the varied effect of CAP, I have a question : does the size of the first attack matter for the disruption of the CAP ?  If no, then would it be gamey to organize a small-scale sweep or two, by just a handful of planes, to disrupt the CAP, before a bigger attack ?  AFAIK, the air attacks are resolved starting by the closer points of origin, so moving a CVE or two one hex closer would ensure their fighters would be the first on target...  But this might be seen as gamey rather than clever.  What's your feeling on this ?
