Nice encounter in the Indian ocean and itīs a JACKPOT! As we more or less expected, Miller was trying to bring ground troops (an Indian division) from Karachi to Australia. When our Glen spotted his TF he immedietely turned it around but our carriers were fast enough to catch it. Iīm not that exited by the damage done so far but this is just the first of the morning strikes. A single torp hit on an Allied AK means nothing and Miller will surely scatter the TF tomorrow... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 3,38 Japanese aircraft D3A Val x 16 A6M3a Zero x 6 B5N Kate x 17 Japanese aircraft losses D3A Val: 1 destroyed Allied Ships AK Empire Fortune, Bomb hits 2, on fire AK Empire Rosalind, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage DD Roebuck CL Dauntless, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Claymore, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage Allied ground losses: 134 casualties reported Guns lost 1 Aircraft Attacking: 4 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet 1 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet we only have 250 carrier based ac but the strikes get pretty much separated. Doesnīt matter against this target. AK Rosalind and Empire Claymore are sunk, as is the light cruiser. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 3,38 Japanese aircraft D3A Val x 25 A6M3a Zero x 2 B5N Kate x 5 Japanese aircraft losses D3A Val: 1 damaged Allied Ships AK Empire Carpenter, on fire CL Dauntless, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Galliard, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Dirk AK Empire Fortune, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire MacCallum, Torpedo hits 2, on fire Allied ground losses: 118 casualties reported Aircraft Attacking: 1 x D3A Val bombing at 2000 feet 1 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet last one of the morning strikes, the AK doesnīt seem to be impressed after taking two torps... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Salamaua , at 54,88 Allied aircraft Barracuda x 40 Spitfire Vb x 17 No Allied losses Runway hits 3 Aircraft Attacking: 10 x Barracuda bombing at 16600 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on Luganville , at 72,107 Allied aircraft Wellington III x 36 Beaufighter VIC x 21 P-38G Lightning x 38 No Allied losses Airbase hits 2 Airbase supply hits 2 Runway hits 30 Aircraft Attacking: 35 x P-38G Lightning bombing at 2000 feet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- and the party goes on in the afternoon... Day Air attack on TF at 3,38 Japanese aircraft D3A Val x 45 A6M3a Zero x 29 B5N Kate x 71 Japanese aircraft losses D3A Val: 1 damaged Allied Ships AK Empire Carpenter, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Galliard, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage CL Dauntless, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire MacCallum, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage DD Roebuck DD Rapid, Bomb hits 1, on fire AK Empire Charmian, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Rother, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Villager, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Rosalind, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Fortune, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage AK Empire Trumpet, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage Allied ground losses: 306 casualties reported Aircraft Attacking: 2 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet one bigger strike on the enemy convoy and I guess 85% of the enemy TF was either sunk or in sinking condition at that time. The Indian division is probably down to only 30% of itīs strenght or even less. We will continue to attack the rest of the TF in the next days, if I would be Miller I would try to send half of the ships North, the others East or if not heavily damaged South. That way he would be surely able to save at least parts of his division. Would be an excellent week if we could destroy a whole Indian division while being embarked on ships. As is known anyway, we did not score a single point for enemy ground losses for the losses within the Indian division. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Irkutsk Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 13818 troops, 436 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 5712 Defending force 137807 troops, 1776 guns, 206 vehicles, Assault Value = 2838 Allied ground losses: 172 casualties reported Guns lost 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Kweiyang Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 22605 troops, 262 guns, 7 vehicles, Assault Value = 3095 Defending force 310943 troops, 875 guns, 9 vehicles, Assault Value = 8429 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Iman Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 43354 troops, 453 guns, 10 vehicles, Assault Value = 909 Defending force 59485 troops, 619 guns, 222 vehicles, Assault Value = 1234 Allied ground losses: 20 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Townsville Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 15511 troops, 197 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2038 Defending force 74450 troops, 633 guns, 453 vehicles, Assault Value = 1200 Allied ground losses: 6 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Chungking Japanese Bombardment attack Attacking force 22701 troops, 256 guns, 17 vehicles, Assault Value = 1294 Defending force 125524 troops, 218 guns, 8 vehicles, Assault Value = 2470 Allied ground losses: 10 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Irkutsk Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 101443 troops, 1639 guns, 133 vehicles, Assault Value = 2836 Defending force 319840 troops, 3063 guns, 41 vehicles, Assault Value = 5712 Japanese ground losses: 632 casualties reported -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Iman Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 51282 troops, 605 guns, 221 vehicles, Assault Value = 1234 Defending force 43354 troops, 453 guns, 10 vehicles, Assault Value = 909 Japanese ground losses: 154 casualties reported Guns lost 7 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Kweiyang Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 109130 troops, 851 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 8429 Defending force 147355 troops, 1614 guns, 28 vehicles, Assault Value = 3095 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Townsville Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 48337 troops, 536 guns, 18 vehicles, Assault Value = 1199 Defending force 96478 troops, 1012 guns, 10 vehicles, Assault Value = 2038 Japanese ground losses: 321 casualties reported Guns lost 12 Allied ground losses: 16 casualties reported Guns lost 1
