that was easy and our first defensive perimeter is growing South into the Pacific. If you have a TF without escorts it passes a hex with mines most times without anything happening. If you have escorts in it then those escorts try to kill mines on and on and then you most times get one of the transports hit one or two mines. Strange routine, always the same...

Japanese ground losses:
1908 casualties reported
Guns lost 55
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
106976 casualties reported
Guns lost 272

To compensate the anger about the sub attacks, we make progress on the continent. Changsha is lost and over 100.000 Chinese troops surrender - worth some 800 victory points. Miller stated in his email that he was surprised that his troops didnīt retreat! This base got surrounded some 4 weeks ago! As are the other two bases in the South with another 200.000+ Chinese troops surrounded already I wonder what he will do now! Amazing...

Miller told me that ground warfare isnīt what heīs really good in, unfortunately for him, this will really make him pay in China. Iīm not planning on wiping the Chinese out completely but reduce them to only two or three bases to make them an unimportant factor...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

lol! After yesterdays attack I thought that Miller will realize that this TF was directly heading towards Truk so I did set the original TF and the AP that was hit yesterday to a different destination to move from the direct shipping lane to Truk. Well, the enemy sub moved also away from the direct shipping lane to Truk... Luck or is Miller transcendental...

whatīs now happening?? Miller spotted three of my units moving in yesterday and it seems he ordered an attack for today. Pretty surprising as he has to expect that Iīm not just moving in two small NLF with 20 assault points and there were another dozen units at Merak that could be expected to arrive today. Well, he met three full divisions and support, the Allied attack is shredded! Excellent, hopefully this has disrupted the Allied so much that my upcoming attack wonīt result in oil or resource centers destroyed by the Allied defender.

I think Miller is new to this game, so you need to take that into account.

I can say in our PBEM, I did the same thing to him and put a sub in every port, as well as in every landing I can reach ( I'm Allies).  It has put a serious dent in his transport capacity over the last few days.

When Miller does his milkruns daily then he just has to expect my fighters from Mandalay to show up over Lashio. Even though the Allied fighters had the bounce (how this works is beyond me as the Allied fighters are at 9.000 ft and mine are at 15.000 ft ) the gap in experience is so big that the AVG once again gets pretty much slaughtered in Nikmod terms... this is a combined strike out of China and India...

this strike comes from India, the Australian Buffalos arenīt doing any better than the American Tomahawks. But also here, the Allied fighters get the bounce, even though also the Buffs are flying 6.000 ft below our fighters on LRCAP... high hopes that AE will get this game routine right... in WITP it never worked... not a single time...

a good day for our fighters, the downside is that we lose 5 pilots out of the 6 Oscars lost, even though we were fighting over our own base...

Miller will soon learn that Nik isnīt called flakfanboy for nothing. A long range strike from Australia comes in pretty low. Two Vals are destroyed (one pilot is dead... probably seppuku when he saw his plane going up in flames...) and two B-17C are shot down by the flak defense...

Hengchow has a pretty strong enemy garisson but has been cut off for a couple of weeks already. Would guess that the defneders have some 7-10.000 supplies at the base. At the moment we have problems to get our troops in Southern China fully supplied, it seems our ongoing attacks at Changsha burnt A LOT of supplies. Bringing in 20-30k of supplies wonīt make it much different as the supply would soon be dispersed in all of China, we need at least 100.000 supplies to get our assaults on Hengchow and Wuchow in the South going (we need time for r&r of the divs anyway). In the meantime the enemy forts will be built up to level 9 I guess but also their supply levels will go down drastically. Nikmod has the Japanese industry starting at pretty low levels so I had to expand a lot of factories, especially aircraft and engines, but also arm and vehicle. This has put my supply levels in Japan to serioulsy low levels, which means that the supply for my offensives has to mostly come from my conquered territory already. Iīm happy that I was able to conquer nearly all of the important oil and ressource sites completely undamaged, which is something Iīm not used to. Itīs no problem for the assaults like in Java or the Pacific because there arenīt really huge armies involved, but the supply situation makes it pretty hard to fight further on in China for some time. IIRC the supply levels started out over 3.000.000 on day one of the war and Iīm now down to 1.800.000 (which isnīt much if you think about all the bases it is spread out). With the supply produced in the two months of the war you can see that weīve spent A LOT of supply to expand our industry. I expect the supply levels to grow from now on...

Japanese Shock attack

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese ground losses:

Allied ground losses:

wow! Iīve thought we would have no problem at all to take the base on the first attempt. At least the assault value 0 base force canīt inflict a lot of casualties. Our NLF unit has nearly 2000 supplies and is only at 18 disruption, Iīve ordered a deliberate attack for tomorrow. I doubt that the Allied base force can put up a prolonged fight...

once again, the Kates seem to be dropping laser guided bombs. This attack makes it pretty obvious for Miller that the Fidjis are the next target on my list. Wonīt be surprising for him as he has spotted my invasion TFs a couple of times already...

the invasion of the Fidjis goes in... only one enemy unit spotted here we should storm the base without much problem, the majority of our assault troops will go in when we have the port secured. We had also some 100 assault points prepped for a landing at Suva if the expected New Zealand bgd would have been spotted sitting at Nandi... We expect to see the Fidjis being under our control within the next 7 days...

what is very interesting is the fact that Miller is reinforcing Myitkina out of India AND heīs moving Chinese units (weīve spotted 10 units !!!) towards Lashio... what does he think how he will supply those troops? Serves me well, IMO he would be better off trying to fend off the hopeless situation in China, not moving his Chinese troops into Burma over a trail which wonīt bring any supplies to his troops when he doesnīt even have enough supplies in China...

but itīs nevertheless very interesting, none of my former Allied opponents tried something like that...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/10/42

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on 49th Chinese Corps, at 45,35

Japanese aircraft
Ki-30 Ann x 9

Aircraft Attacking:
9 x Ki-30 Ann bombing at 2000 feet
10 x Ki-51 Sonia bombing at 2000 feet
8 x Ki-32 Mary bombing at 2000 feet

Miller finally decided to send a couple, to be more precise, he sends 5 units down the road coming from Chungking. Probably he wants to establish a supply path to Hengchow again. 5 units is nothing... I have over 1500 assault points sitting at the crossroad, so whatīs he thinking those 5 units can achieve? Air to ground attacks in preparation of a ground assault...

the Allied base force had no chance and retreated to Suva. The rest of our troops will start unloading tomorrow. The only thing I can see with a chance to inflict some losses to our invasion are the 4 subs lurking around in this area, so I expect to see at least two or three ships torpedoed...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Hengchow

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 10201 troops, 315 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2746

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

and here comes the attack on the pitiful Chinese corps that entered the crossroad hex West of Changsha. The unit had no chance and retreated West towards Kweiyang. What makes those retreats really a pain is not just the fact that you lose up to 30% of your troops but also all the supply. With the desperate supply situation in China it will take some time until this unit gets from 0 supply to an acceptable supply situation again...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Taung Gyi

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 22992 troops, 277 guns, 6 vehicles, Assault Value = 479

Ground combat at Lashio

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 1420 troops, 0 guns, 52 vehicles, Assault Value = 53

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Allied max assault: 45 - adjusted assault: 7

Japanese max defense: 0 - adjusted defense: 1

Allied assault odds: 7 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Lashio base !!!

Lol! When we spotted the Chinese units moving towards Lashio we ordered two divs to move there also, but they come late. A Chinese tank rgt takes the empty base and opens up the Burma road again! Wonīt stay open long as my troops are already moving in and if you look at the adjusted assault value of the TK rgt then this can only mean that it is VERY LOW on supply...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Wuchow

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 55972 troops, 470 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1780

Defending force 59930 troops, 539 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 825

Japanese ground losses:
20 casualties reported

Why Miller orders his troops to do bombardments is something I also donīt understand as this just eats up supply of the sieged troops. Wuchow is also 100% cut off...

Out of a sudden, our Mavisī, Alfs, Nells and Betties start spotting a hell of a lot TFs near Midway!!!! MIDWAY??????? This was the moment I poured out my coffee all over my desk! What the heck! Why do we spot TFs around MIDWAY? Before I really realized whatīs going on, the first of my bombers took off to engage the enemy TFs. First strike goes in against a TF which is probably an invasion TF... Miller is flying LRCAP from French Frigate Schoal...

and Iīm totally disappointed!! The defense of the Tomahawks was pretty much a joke and they were eaten alive by my high exp Zeroes but what the hell are my bombers doing? This must be the worst hit rate Iīve seen in the last couple of months. Weīre talking about high exp IJN pilots that had no fatigue at all and we achieve only ONE torp hit. No, not two, the second was only FOW. Am sure about that because there was no "belt armor penetration" message after the "torp hit BB Colorado". One bomber out of 45 achieves a hit on the old and slow moving BBs... depressing...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

another attack, this was succesful. Amazing that thereīs another TF with BBs in it. So weīve spotted already 7 BBs... there are also cruisers, the Allied CVs - yes the CVs!!! - DDs and surely over 100 APs/AKs... in fact, we are seeing the whole US Navy going into position to retake Midway!

and this is what makes me thinking that I just lack the right portion of luck in the right moments. Our bombers are performing more than lousy and to top the ****ty situation off, this TF of 12 big AKs just arrived TODAY!! One day later... and nothing happens... two days earlier... and nothing happens as the TF only needs three day/night phases to unload... would my 40-50 aircraft on nav search have spotted something yesterday... nothing would have happened...

no, the enemy TFs consisting of something like 400 ships manage to sail into position just next to Midway and they arenīt spotted... My TF was ordered to bring in 6 construction rgts... needless to say that the whole TF of 12 ships is lost. This just sucks, I hate losing ships that way...

here comes the afternoon strike against the CVs! Miller is using a lot of Marine fighters on his CVs so he probably swapped out his TBDs with Marine fighter squadrons. We donīt have a hr about it, canīt say that Iīm happy about something like this though. Itīs not a complete fighter death star and he hasnīt overabused it so I can surely live with it. Using something like 60-70% fighters or even a complete complement of fighters would be too much for my taste though... against the numerical superiority of the defenders that were able to bounce us all the fight there was not much my high exp Zeroes could do... far too many Zero pilots lost and not a single bomber made it through as they immediately turned around - which saved their live...

this is at the crossroads... As you can see, we have a pretty bad adjusted av but still, we only missed the 2:1 by 14!!! assault points... well, if you remember my statement about three units in the hex and three air attacks concentrating on TWO units instead of dispersing them on all three. One small air attack often is enough to disrupt the enemy so much that the assault value is halfed or even worse. Unfortunately this didnīt happen and our assault failed...

Here are todays air losses. Nearly a parity in aircraft lost, with the massacre on the Tomahawks we still achieved a 2:1 in A2A losses, even though our Zeroes that engaged the carrier Cap paid for it...

And hereīs the situation around Midway! As you can see, the Allied CV TFs (probably four carriers in two TFs) popped up just two hexes next to Midway with the invasion TFs coming from the East. I expect to see the first naval bombardment in two turns if the bombardment group is in the same hex as the invasion, or Miller could also split off his cruisers from the carrier TFs and bombard already tomorrow as he stated in an email that he thinks Midway will be full of bombers tomorrow. In fact, I have moved out everything that was able to fly, thereīs no reason to fight a fight I donīt want to fight.

Midway has nearly 300 assault points and whatīs the plus on our side is the big base force there. 8x5,5 and 16x4,7 inch CD guns could put a lot of holes into his invasion transports. We have level two forts and 24.000 supplies. Still, this counterattack comes totally surprising for me and kudos to Miller, this is a very bold and excellent move. Bold in every case, excellent if this invasion will be a success. Our defense isnīt looking what I expected it to look like when the Allied attack goes in (expected in four months at the earliest). We have another reinforcement convoy heading towards Midway with a real CD unit and another Navy unit to bring up the assault value to 350 but it was already redirected to Wake. The CD unit, the big base force, 350 assault points, supported by another IJN and IJNAF base force behind level 9 forts and with 30.000 supplies, that was how the defense was expected to look like. This was my plan how "fortress Midway" should have looked like. Thatīs the reason Iīve brought in the construction btn also, they would have been moved out again when the forts were ready.

Well, the enemy brings on the fight and we canīt change it. Iīm curios though how the troop strenght of the attack will look like. What can he bring after two months of war? Iīm pretty sure (no, Iīm not sure, itīs only a guess) that at least one division and perhaps a RCT is divided between Johnston Island and Palmyra. So whatīs left? IIRC there are three divs ready for deployment at this stage of the war and perhaps another two RCTs. Two divs should be only at 70% strenght with a lot of squads disabled. I would be really amazed if he could land more than 600-700 assault points. And what preparation will those troops have? 30? Perhaps 40?

KB is far down in the South Pacific (Miller told me thatīs the reason he started his invasion) and I wonīt order it to go North, as itīs just to far and the battle would be over anyway. Miller stated that he thinks it will take KB at least 5-7 turns to show up but that is far from what would be doable. With full speed runs it would still take us 10 turns minimum as we also would have to refuel somewhere. And Iīm not at all willing to take on 4 US carriers with KB that can field something like 420 aircraft. The US CVs can field some 300+ aircraft also and if you look at the attack on my TF at Midway this turn, they managed to launch a fully coordinated strike. This would be the end of KB, so far from the next major port, such a strike could mean the total loss of all my carriers, wheras the US carriers would only lose two carriers, means one of their CV TFs. If the Allied carriers only get damaged, itīs just 15 hexes to Pearl Harbour. That arenīt the odds I want to fight...

IMO everything will depend on the number of Allied ships with troops and my CD guns. If he canīt land ALL his troops in one turn and my CD guns will put up a good counterfire, then the invasion is doomed, no matter if he will bring 1000 assault points. And thatīs the major factor at the moment that makes me confident. The number of available Allied ships. I just canīt believe the enemy will have enough ships to land 1000 assault points in one turn. Iīm not even sure he has enough to land 600 in one turn, but I could be wrong. I donīt know if Miller is really experienced in atoll assaults but as heīs a veteran UV player, he should be aware of the problems of an atoll assault. Very exciting at the moment. Very interesting move by Miller, something I would have never expected. No matter if this invasion will be a success or not - and I guess it will be very narrow, no matter how it will turn out - this shows that Miller is a pretty bold player that serioulsly deserves a lot of respect. This operation clearly shows me that I shouldnīt underestimate him.

With my heavily damaged AKs sitting at Midway Iīve expected some enemy warships showing up, but not something like this TF. Looks really strange to me! I know that there are at least 12 enemy DDs in ASW TFs around Johnston so I wonder why this TF only has two DDs as escorts. Would be a juicy target for a sub to land a lucky shot. I guess these are the cruisers that normally are with the Allied carriers and most of the DDs stayed with the carriers. In fact, those must be ALL the cruisers that normall accompany the carriers. All my AKs were in sinking condition after last turns carrier based air attack so this doesnīt matter at all...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Naval bombardment of Midway, at 95,61 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

67 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

CL Honolulu, Shell hits 11

2989 casualties reported
Guns lost 21

Airbase hits 6
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 30
Port hits 5
Port fuel hits 13
Port supply hits 16

This is what matters. I would more or less have bet on a bombardment next turn but the first one already goes in this turn. Oh well, itīs a nuke... Without doing real recon the Allied cruisers knock out everything they could knock out, Iīve lost over 5000 supplies alone, my base forces are 85% disrupted with 15% of their guns lost already. This after just one attack. Iīm no fan of the nuke bombardments, not Japanese nor Allied, but I canīt understand why Allied fanboys alway keep bringing up the myth that nukes only work for the Japanese. Without any real recon this base is nearly knocked out...

With all the BBs that weīve spotted I think there will be another BB bombardment tomorrow another one following in two days. Perhaps there will even be a third bombardment. With the short distance to Hawai, the Allied heavy ships could do nearly permanent bombardments. This could be a major factor also, especially if they nuke the base all the time. A 5 BB bombardment that does 250 casualties with 3 guns knocked out and no hits on the base is rather what I expected without having the base reconned. There was a PBY squadron flying twice a day to Midway but patrols donīt really raise the detection level...

bad die rolls for me, very good ones for Miller I gues...

the carriers took position with the invasion TFs three hexes East of Midway. Would be great if they would go in tomorrow, going three hexes and land troops would be a mistake. I expect to see the invasion in two days, at least one bombardment tomorrow night, this could be the end of my CD units...

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Miller also moved a Chinese corps and a HQ onto the railline between Hanoi and Canton to block my supply line here. I moved a full strenght Chinese division to clear the railline again and it wasnīt much of a problem, again the Chinese corps must have been nearly without supplies. Fighting in a wooden hex didnīt help a lot. As Miller is moving at least 10 Chinese units over the trail from China to Burma, Iīve ordered this Chinese division also to march to Rangoon and am thinking about another two divs to do the same. When the Allied commander sends the Chinese to Burma, the Japanese high command has to think about sending China command divisions to Burma also. This will mean in the end that it will become harder for the British and Indian forces to mount an offensive into Burma later in the war and Iīm not sure that Miller is aware of this. Later in the war means of course if Iīm able to take Myitkina!

Would be the first time that I wouldnīt be able to take all of Burma...

Wow, what a turn of events !!!  Just when I was starting to get worried you were becoming overconfident.

Don't be so sure only two divs are available.  He does not appear to have reinforced the South Pacific.  This would net at least one USMC Div, speaking from memory*.  Maybe the Americal too, if he was quick to ferry it.  No less than three US Div start assigned to CenPac, and at least one more arrives early.  Plus numerous RCTs, including NorPac's RCTs and Canadian Brigades (with PP for the latter).  This could make much AV, especially as some of the starting divs have very high XP.  And I don't even count the West Coast Div he could have transferred if he sparingly used PPs (I don't think so, you ran into many empty dutch bases).

Anyway, I'll watch with attention and much anticipation.  Kill him, sink him, shot him, destroy him !  Banzai !

* I've played several times the opening six months of Scen15 now, and it's amazing the huge assets you can muster if you concentrate on one operation, and don't care about HQ assignment, as soon as KB is far away and without leaving the IJN time enough to regroup the Betties.

As Iīve said, itīs an atoll, so if he wants to land 3 or even more divisions then he will need a lot of ships also. We will see... With 60 days into the war there are surely not enough pp around to free a WC division and transport it to Midway. So perhaps there will be 3 divs and 3 RCTs, with the divs not being fully combat ready, this would make some 900-1000 assault points. This would be sufficient.

New turn arrived... have a look!

I canīt describe how my feelings are... I canīt put much more effort in ASW and Iīm surely not doing bad in what I can do in game terms. Well, no matter what I do, no matter how "bad" Miller does (in game terms, or game myths, itīs bad to put subs into base hexes with search planes and two ASW TFs sitting undocked there) his subs still score. Sub spotted, 6 PC and 6 DD waiting undocked at Balikpapan, the sub enters the base hex, a TK convoy with 4 PG as escorts also enters the hex, the sub is spotted during the day twice by search planes, then... the skipper orders an attack and sinks a fat TK... the escorts did nothing...

one sub, a base hex, 16 ASW vessels, only 4 TK, 27 ac on search... the result: a TK sunk...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ASW attack near Midway at 95,61

Japanese Ships
SS I-2, hits 8

Allied Ships
DMS Lamberton
DMS Zane

in return, two DMS are enough to heavily damage I-2. 8 near misses result in 37 sys and 9 flt damage. This is again something I wonder about. Common knowledge of the forum members says that near misses mostly only do one or two sys points of damage. In my games I see near misses constantly doing 4 or more points of sys dam

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Iīve mentioned last turn that the Allied invasion TF is sitting THREE hexes East of Midway and it would be great if the TF is ordered to go in directly to the atoll to start unloading today. Miller stated in his email that his troops would go in and I already started to smile... here we go! This is at the END OF THE TURN!!!!!!!!!

Coastal Guns at Midway, 95,61, firing at TF 1003
TF 1003 troops unloading over beach at Midway, 95,61

3 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Allied ground losses:
324 casualties reported

Can I say more about 3 shots fired in defense? Itīs unbelievable that Miller really goes in with his invasion TF instead of waiting one hex from Midway to go in tomorrow or move the TFs in and set it to do not unload and set them to unload tomorrow. Thatīs a BIG mistake, seems like he hasnīt experienced a lot of bloody atoll assaults so far. And still, donīt know what is going wrong for me... the CD is wrecked, no wonder of three nukes. But, there are 4 spotted TFs and only ONE starts unloading???

Miller expected his TFs unloading THIS turn, so what the heck is now helping him that it doesnīt happen???? You canīt make a bigger mistake than having your invasion start unloading at the end of a turn and this is exactly what happens. But only with, donīt know, 5% of his invasion!

All available guardian angels must be with him. At this stage of this fight, everything could already be a 100% disaster for my opponent. While bold and a very good move, it seems he can 100% rely on luck because how this invasion is carried out looks rather poor. The scenario could also look like this (yes, I know Iīm only dreaming, feeling like Hitler in his bunker in 4/45 already ):

my 45 Betties/Nells that attacked his slow BBs achieve 8 torp hits instead of 2 which would be a nice amount of damage, we wouldnīt see three nukes in a row (which wasnīt expected without recon anyway) and my CD guns stay ready, his invasion goes in like this turn because of bad planning (the only that really happened) and instead of starting to unload only one small TF all TFs start to unload and get shot up badly by the base force with 24 CD guns.

All that stormed ashore are parts of a regiment of a US Army division... guess the unloading will work tomorrow and with my CD units wrecked there wonīt happen a lot... I donīt want to look up again how many shots the USMC def btn fired when I took Midway after a bombardment and close air support. And the def btn started understrenght and had not as many guns...

look at what was landed... Our adjusted defense isnīt encouraging. With 161 and the real invasion going in tomorrow, the enemy would only need some 500 assault points to take the base with his first real attack tomorrow... if thereīs another bombardment then it doesnīt matter as our base forces arenīt really existing anymore and the inf units arenīt hit at all by the bombardment. Yesterday the leading inf unit had 0!!!!! disruption and 5 fatigue after the nuke. Today it had 2 disruption and 8 fatigue, this after three nukes and the attack by the Allied infantry.

Itīs just like Iīve mentioned in my first couple of posts, Midway always was and will always be a nightmare for me. While it would be somewhat historic if this would apply for me as the Japanese commander, I always experience the same as the Allied commander...

As Iīve mentioned, Miller wanted to start unloading his troops at the end of last turn. Unlucky as we seem, most of his TF didnīt...

Iīve asked him:

Donīt know if this is how you expected your invasion…

and he replied:

Lol.....not quite! I hope a LOT more troops get ashore this turn........

Seems like he has a TF for each of his units! Well, there is this hr:

no exploit of dozens invasion TFs going at one base, means: if you need 300 ships for an invasion, put them into 5, 6 or 7 TFs but not in 60 TFs with 5 ships each

he didnīt use dozens of TFs but this is going in this direction already as there is no need to use 6 TFs for his invasion forces that are sitting on some 90 ships it seems. No overabuse though, so we will see how his bigger invasions will look like. My invasion of Java that involved 100.000+ troops came in on two TFs...

If someone could enlighten me why my adjusted av looks so terrible... oh well. Midway is already lost. The defenders achieved nothing. The only thing that we achieved is to lose 12 AKs that arrived by accident the same turn as the Allied invasion and the loss of 15.000 troops.

as expected last turn, Midway fell today. Unbelievable how this all went off. I have to admit that the operation was a very bold and excellent move of Miller, I also have to say that it was absolutely poor performed though. Even though it looks like it was performed perfectly as he didnīt take any losses, in the "how to do atoll invasion guidelines" he seems to have done everything that you should NOT do:

He started unloading at the end of a turn (he was lucky that only one out of 5 TFs started unloading - this was unexpected for him)
He didnīt fly any ground support with his carriers (turned out to be no problem as the nuke bombardments took out EVERYTHING on the island)
He used far too few ships for his troops, so it took him THREE days to unload!
There were no support troops it seems, without enough support and three shock attacks in a row, this alone could have wrecked his invasion
He did not include any cruisers in his invasion TFs! Imagine what my CD guns could have done to his AKs/APs if they have no cruisers to do counterfire

and still, it could not have gone any better for him. I have lost far more in taking Midway with 200 assault points vs. 30 Allied av as Miller did with 600 assault points vs 300 av with over 30 CD guns...

I can only hope that he will perform his atoll assaults exactly the same in future because he wonīt be anytime as lucky as he seems to have been here. Iīm totally sure that this invasion would have gone real bad if there would not have been the nukes to completely take out my CD units. But Iīm repeating myself. As it stands now, he could advance with his troops to Iwo Jima or even further! There is of course nowhere a real defense as I donīt even have the troops at the moment to really garrison places like Marcus Island, Iwo, Saipan, etc. But he has to be aware of one thing: I have 5.000 assault points in total marching through Java and waiting on the Philipines, so if he will advance just one atoll further (would be Wake then), then I will throw up to 10 div/bgd at his troops. KB will then also be around so this would be leading to a couple of Allied units destroyed.

I doubt that he will attack further West, so his operation was a full success! KUDOS Paul!

Scattershooting re Midway:

In 2/42 it's hard to get enough assault shipping to unload 2+ divisions in one-day.

Nuke bombardments. Wonder if the nav attacks on your transports the day before the invasion raised the recon/detection level of Midway for bombardment purposes?

As far as losses were concerned, maybe lcu exp plays a big role than I thought. Miller's invasion force is pretty much the US a-team (iirc all above 80+exp) vs. 50 exp? snlf and nav gds. It would be interesting to see how much those units had prepped for Midway.

Maybe you can snag some cadre out for the construction battalions. It's been a while since I played the Japanese so I'm not too familiar w/ their oob, is losing 6 construction battalions significant?

yes I know itīs hard to have enough shipping, that was one of the pros on my side when I was thinking about his upcoming invasion. But it didnīt turn out to be a disadvantage at all.

Good thought about the nav attacks. Exactly the night after the first nuke - the CA bombardment - went in and took out half of the CD units. The day after the BBs took out the rest of the CD.

The biggest problem (besides that that my CD was destroyed) is the fact that those nav guard units have no heavy weapons. When you look at the hundreds of shots fired when you land against working CD and inf units with heavy weapons then you see a lot of losses. The losses the Allied have suffered landing on Midway are comparable to the losses of a landing at an empty base.

I have already brought out a cadre unit of EVERY unit on Midway, in total 10 units. Have used my subs in this area and from Kwajalein. Will be interesting how many and which of those units will turn into the parent unit when the main body of the unit is destroyed. Couple will probably just stay a fragment and others will turn into ghosts. The most important would be the big base force and the naval guard unit with 100+ assault points (without any heavy weapon though).

One reason that he did not continue to bomb your LCUs with his dive bombers could be that he waited for KB to come, hoping that the exchange between the two carrier forces would be at least equal (which is already an Allied-favorable rate) if not to his advantage.

But it's bad news anyway.
