I would like to have the opportunity to export the complete map 1:1 scale as an image file of some sort (jpg, png, bmp whatever). This is kind of the basic request, leading to the second, advanced version of the same request with the difference of a filter for what should be included in the export (units, locations, labels, borders etc etc).

Not sure how much more development is intended to go into AT. I have gotten the feeling lately that the 1.20 is the release and not much more will happen with AT in the future.

Any clarification on these two and a half questions would be appreciated.

You can already export a complete game map.

1 Load any scenario.

2 Check the "screen shots" selection on the opening screen. Uncheck "shroud" and "FOW" .

3. Start the game.

4. End the game when the map appears.

5. Go to the screenshots directory in the AT directory and there will be a full map .jpg grahic.

Is this what you mean?

Yes! The things I learn every day.... Thanks for the training session. I'm working on a scenario with a fairly large map, and I need to work on it out of AT as the scrolling and navigation in the editor is not ideal for large maps.

I have the same difficulty with a large map I've been working on.

Nevertheless, I think the editor is fantastic.

Perhaps a mouse scroll button zoom in, zoom out feature in the editor?

There should indeed be an export as image function in the editor as a compliment to the in-game screenshot functionality which is really OK for its purpose, but not so good in supporting scenario design.

I can get the jpeg image for maps others have created but my 3 maps 200x 152, 266x202, 398x303 all get an unhandled exception error (SystemArgumentException : Parameter Invalid) when I actually try to start a game with the screenshot option. It appears to be an issue with Drawing Bitmaps.

Is it that my maps are too big for the programme to create a JPEG image? Is there some other reason I might get the error?

Is there some other way to export or get my larger maps into a smaller one (I've used an overlay base in the settings menu for my maps).

Have the same issue with a large map I'm working on. Have only tried on one map, so can't say if it's related to that map or something else.

I'll assume you meant me - Barthheart. Man people have trouble with this tag....

I have never tried to to a map as large as yours so don't know. Maybe Vic can comment. I don't believe there is a way to make smaller map jpg's though.

I am sure its a memory issue.
A really large map will become a really large bitmap that has to be held in memory before saving.
Probably the problem would go away if you add some extra gigs of RAM
on the other hand it might be there is an upper limit to the size of a jpeg or what GDI+ (graphics lib) can handle.

I put it on the list.
But things on the list might take a while longer then planned. since i am going to focus on the next release first.
Its just that time does not allow me to keep working on double production lines. :(

However though i can disclose nothing about the next release i am planning to keep things compatible. So probably a lot of issues will be adressed with the next game release.

But also here i have to stress the word "probable".

kind regards,
Vic

Thanks Vic

I'm running Vista with 4G RAM. I thinks it's probably a limitation with GDI+

If there is compatibility with the next game release it is probably better to bring work on it rather than two production lines!

My hopes for a future release (AT2).

First let me say that i think that AT is a great game. I do think that the two foremost strenghts of the game is 1) the modability and 2) the interface which makes a highly complex game easily playable. I do think that a second release should build on these strenghts.

Here is some thoughts about the second release.
- Make modalibity easier. A lot would be gained by making scenarios in modules. The different modules could for example be research, units, SFTs, countergraphics, terrain, Map, events etc. Each module could then be saved and loaded separatly (like the master file). The editor should have a module screen where the modder could load for example a world map constructed in another scenario (this would make it much easier to use previous work in new scenarios and fasten the construction of scenartios and mods).
- Make room for more regimes, a little more politics & economics (could have an advanced politics/economics setting). Shared view/territory for allies would be great, but maybe the possibility for allies to lend corps to each other would suffice-.
- I think that the game should have more moddability. The following should also be moddable. Supply & Political points pictures, start up picture of the game. Pictures for the buttons in the game. There should be a remove all units in the editor (it should have a safety message). (its not a big deal, but it kindof hurts to have the WWII pictures in a fantasy game.
- Slightly improved map-graphics (why not buy and integrate the realmod-graphics). The start up screen could give you a choice between real graphics, boargame graphics and the conventional graphics.
- I think desert, jungle & tundra terrain deserves a place in the vanilla game.
- I would love a bigger WAW scenario and would be more than willing to help make it. I do think that the WAW-scenario is great but there is definatly room for improvement. One of the problems is that the map is a little small so that the war in russia tends to end to soon. So a slightly bigger map (150% maybe), a more realistic political model (separate britain & USA and Germany & Italy and some other other small changes would be enough.
- The naval system could use a little improvement. I do think that the Empire system with damage is better. I would love it if ships could become damaged. Naval intercept would also be great.
- The ai could be improved a little. Ability to use concentric attack, carriers, paratroopers etc. Also more flexibility in AI handicap. Again i thin that the Empire system is great (sliders which gives each regime a production and/or battle advantage/disandvantage from 1%-500% (100% is index).

I will think of more. But this is it for now.

Hmm.... just a thought

I was looking at a lot of Cyberboard gameboxex. The maps there can be exported as images and then imported here. Dont know if its possible to save the counters as images also.

But wouldnt it be fantastic if AT2 could be made compatable with cyberbox and similar systems. Then you couls just import maps & counters directly.

Cant even imagina how many scenarios there would be for the game then.....
