I need to retrieve some old e-mail messages that were deleted from the inbox. Are these messages still on my hard drive? Is there a program that can retrieve them or are they lost.

If you use gmail, files that are deleted are held for 30 days or so in your "Trash" before being permanently deleted. This has saved my hide more than once when I deleted a selected file without realizing that other fiels were also selected.

I assume Yahoo and other services do something similar.

If you have a POP account of some kind, the email is downloaded to your hard disk so a file recovery program might find them. I'm not an expert on that anymore.
