I would appreciate it if you would post the current victory scores (or email them to 2by3@2by3games.com if you want to keep them secret). Few human vs human games go so far into 43 (at least so far). Thanks.

After weeks of small actions and quite maneuvering, the forces of the United Sates and Japan once again clash in a battle of epic proportions. For 6 game days now we have been pounding at each other. Carriers and BBs have been sent to the bottom and bases have changed hands. I have all the battle reports and when I find the time, I will put them together - weed out the small stuff - and post them. I expect the battle to rage on for a few more turns.

Here is a taste of the action (It’s my post so I picked my favorite)

Japanese Ships
CV Kaga, Shell hits 57, and is sunk
CV Hiryu, Shell hits 49, and is sunk
DD Niizuki, Shell hits 18, and is sunk

Allied Ships
BB Nevada, Shell hits 24, on fire (was damaged from earlier battle)
BB Pennsylvania, Shell hits 7
CL Cleveland, Shell hits 10
DD Converse, Shell hits 4
DD Chauncey, Shell hits 16, on fire, heavy damage
DD Bennett, Shell hits 6, on fire, heavy damage
DD Lansdowne, Shell hits 5, on fire, heavy damage

Rick

Shell hits (! ! !) on carriers ???? Wow! Were they caught in port or was this on the open sea?

We had a huge carrier battle and both of us took major damage. I had several BB TFs in the area. One I sent to Rabaul to support my landings in that area the other I sent to Kavieng to suppress the airfields there. It was in the Kavieng that I caught the damaged carriers heading for port. By the way they were not really sunk because the next turn I hit one of them while bombing the port.

An American invasion fleet heading for Rabaul detected a Japanese invasion fleet heading for Lae. The escorting carriers reacted and intercepted the Japanese carriers in the Bismark Seas. The US detached some escorting surface ships to attack the Japanese transports. The results of the first two days of battle are below. By the end of the first two days the Japanese landed troops at Lae and the US landed troops 30 SW of Rabaul. I’ve condensed the Report to save space.

The battle is still raging. The US forces have landed an marched to Rabaul. They are awaiting reinforcement before launching the assault. The Japanese have decimated the US transport fleet and this will be the last major offensive of the war for the US. However, the Japanese have suffered huge loses in aircraft and carriers. Crocky is only ahead by 1000 points I feel that if I can take Rabaul (2700 pts) and hold on to it I might get a tie out of the game or even a marginal victory. Time will tell.
Rick

Dont sweat it I have 2 divisions of troops waiting for the right time to strike at this impudent upstart who would try to take Rabual....now if only the weather would clear I could transfer the 500 aircraft from Truk to Rabual to replace the 1000 I have lost.

This battle is it both sides are throwing everything they have left into it........the result is in the balance.....

My losses in aircraft are hurting badly but now is not the time to hold back....

Just a quick question for you two: considering the absolute blood bath this has turned out to be (loving the AAR) if one of you had played a "conservative" style, would the score be much clearer?
I guess what I'm asking is, does a conservative player (on either side) ever beat an aggressive one or vice versa?

I am playing my other games much more concretive but not because of points. In this game I have lost almost complete control. I have troops stranded all over the place, hundreds of aircraft grounded because of lack of supplies, and most of my remaining ships are damaged. If this was real life, I would have been tried and executed. I keep thinking man if I can still do this much damage with the little I have left, what if I had all my aircraft supplied and all my bases functional, and all my ground units organized. This was our first game and we learned as we went along not to mentions the 8 or nine patches (Beta) we have been through.

The one major sticking point I have is that there are 91 transports sitting at pearl and I have about 15 left. All that I am getting are subs from Pearl.

Rick

Edit: I will say that this has been a very exciting game.

I have been reasonably conservative apart from when I tried a major gamble earlier on..but I was forced into that by Kids island hopping campaign thru the Solomons.....other than that I to have naval units sitting in Japan that are sorely needed

The bloodbath thats occuring now is because Rick wants Rabual and I dont want to give it to him :)

Well looks like I will not be able to take Rabaul. Now what? I'll just have to hope Pearl releases the transports I need sooo very badly. I have the air power. I have the combat ships. I have 4 transports. ahahhahaha

The battle for Rabaul goes on. I have landed enough troops so I can't be pushed off but not enough to take it. I have strong air cover over the area and I am trying to put Rabaul airfield out of action. We have been having major air battles with Crocky coming up on the short end most of the time. He has been running in supplies and men every night in an attempt to build up his forces. We just got a beta patch that should improve the release of transports from Pearl. I have 91 of them just sitting there. If I can get them, maybe I can make a new drive. In the mean time I am building up supplies at nearby bases to keep up the pressure from the skies. I am using all my short range bombers to fly supplies.

Rick

I just got a turn I'll post again after I see it.

Why did the US not take Ganai to have a retreat square and a place to bring up supplies by PBY?

Ah, because if I captured that as a base then all my ground units would have droped off half of their supplies when they landed. This way the units are holding onto all the supplies. As it is now I can not ferry in any more supplies. I am hoping to bomb Rabaul into the stone age while waiting for the transpors that the new patch should make availible. In the mean time my inits at Rabaul shuold have enough to hold them.

BONES: Lieutenant, you are looking at the only Starfleet cadet who ever beat the no-win scenario.
SAAVIK: How?
Kid : I reprogrammed the simulation so it was possible to conquer Rabaul.
SAAVIK: WHAT?!
DAVID: (laughs) He cheated!
KIRK: I changed the conditions of the test. I got a commendation for original thinking.

(pause)
I don't like to lose.

:D

I had in mind one fast transport or a sub with a handful of troops to "take the dot." But to be fair, that doesn't seem to be consistent with the swashbuckling style of this game.

lol well, if it makes it sound better how about this. "I am waiting for those bone head admirals in pearl to release more transports. I'm holding the men one the beach as political hostages ."

I still land troops there and march them into Rabaul. Rabaul has too many mines to land there. By not taking the hex the new arrivals hold onto their supplies.

Xpav, I was thinking along exactly the same lines.
Last man standing at Rabaul wins!
